Chevrolet does not stand behind this otherwise goo
If you buy a used HHR with more than 70,000 miles, LOOK OUT. This car has a problem with the timing chain. The 2.2 L engine that was used in the HHR and other Chevrolet cars from this era has a history of the timing chain giving out. Chevrolet extended the warranty on the timing chain for other vehicle makes using this engine, but chose not to do so for the HHR. I had about 80,000 miles in May 2017 when the timing chain gave out. You cannot see the chain, as there is a cover over it, and because of the design of the engine, if the timing chain breaks or starts slipping, you can have substantial engine damage. in my case, I just had damage to the valve rods, but it resulted in a $3,000.00 engine job. the dealership worked with me to reduce the cost, but when I contacted Chevrolet about the problem and ask why they would not extend the warranty on the timing chain, they just gave me the cold shoulder and would offer no assistance. I otherwise loved my HHR. Also, the combined MPG was about 2.5 MPG less than what is indicated.

Plenty of bang fer the buck
I've owned my 2011 hhr lt for 2 months now and have absolutly NO complaints, being 6'02" 235 lbs I fit very comfortably in the cockpit, the high output 4 cylinder eco-tech engine is amazing gets up to 75 MPH with no hesitation or problem at all.however I dont plan on towing a yacht to Flordia or racing a Ferrari for pink slips, but for a general purpose light hauler its funtastic. The retro looks are second to none, its been called rad, cool, cute(by my dear 75 year old mom),sleek, retro etc etc.Its really sad that GM discontinued the HHR,I think its a present day classic.would like to see it make a comeback possibly in '13 or '14 LOVE MY HHR.Mine is an automatic trans form would'nt let me enter

Disappointing.
Purchased our 2011 HHR in 2014 with 45K. Here it is, the end of 2018 and we are trading in our 2011 HHR with 99K. Nothing mechanically has gone wrong. No engine failure. No alternator problems. It's EVERYTHING else. The car was cobbled together so cheaply that it gives out piece by piece. I've never had a car where I had to replace a speaker. I've owned cars until they're 15, 16 years old and the stereo sounds as good as new. Yet on my HHR, I've replaced EVERY speaker because it stopped working and it's only 7 years old now. The doors have become difficult to open and require a firm grip to get open. I have small kids. That's a pain. The headlights blow out once every 3 months. You have to jack the car up and take the wheel off to change it -- or have the hand of a 7 year old to get in there with the wheel on. You can't change it under the hood. My mechanic said it was an electronic or fuse issue, the level of problems we've had should not be the norm. We've even gone "extra life" bulbs to no avail. They just overheat and fall apart prematurely. The paint job scratches if you look at it wrong. My wife put her purse on the hood for a minute and lifted it to find a mark. The corners of the doors and gas tank continuously chip and I've bought touch up paint TWICE from Amazon. I've never had to do that for *any* other car and I've owned MANY. Heck, I've never invested in touch up paint at all. This car is mostly touch-up paint now. The Chevy emblem fell off the back of it. I've never had an emblem fall off. The steering shakes, particularly when it's not accelerating, even though it has a fresh alignment. The rotors warp within 1000 miles of replacement because the braking system is inadequate and not designed strong enough. You will live with it shaking when driving and shaking when braking. It takes more effort to turn left than to turn right -- the teeth in the power steering aren't lining up or have broken. It's a SEVEN YEAR OLD CAR with less than 100,000 miles. I just signed to trade it in for a Honda that is *older* than this vehicle. The dealership offered me almost *nothing* for this car. $1000 and I had to walk away in order to get up to $1500. I paid $10,500 for it just 4 years ago. "Once you buy one, you're stuck with it. Nobody wants them! I can't put it on the lot! I can't sell it at the auction!" the dealer I bought from said and I 100% believe it. Other dealers I took it to when I admitted to having a trade-in when I went for a test drive snickered at it. The body style is a detriment now whereas when it was new, it sold it better. Retro is apparently "out". If you have one, get out while it's still worth more than $5 and a pack of Newpies.

2011 Chevy HHR Exceeded Our Expectations!
We bought a new 2011 Chevy HHR LS with the My Link package because it had everything we needed for our business. From the interior room of an SUV to the gas savings of a small car the HHR has been fun to drive and it is easy to load packages for shipment. Our website business, [HTML deleted], uses the HHR for shipments, carrying and picking up new inventory and advertising. In the future we plan to add advertising decals on the exterior to make it stick out from the others. The HHR has exceeded our expectations with its comfort and convenience. We have over 1,500 miles in just about a month of owning it with no problems.
Perfect Car for Average People.
Plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, and more cargo space than some larger vehicles. Great gas mileage, and fun to drive. We easily get 33-34mpg on the highway. Bought it at 2 years old with 24,000 miles on it. 4 years later it has 74,000 miles on it and still running great. Only downside is it's no longer made, or we'd buy a new one.

long lasting
doesn't handle good in the snow, other than that I have over 221,000 miles on my 2011 Chevy HHR LT flex fuel car. As of 6 months ago, the car has been sold, now driving a 2013 Chevy equinox AWD LTZ.

surprised
I was pleasantly surprised with the engine acceleration and the ride. It has a very car like smoothness.
Great Car!
Wife and I bought this car about a year back. So far we use it for all of our trips and like the quiet ride. We now have 35k on it and it runs like a dream. Smooth auto trans and quite peppy for 2.2 - 4 cyl engine. We can get all the groceries, and all of our newborns equipment in the hatch. We get between 26.5-28mpg on average. Fun little car, we have enjoyed it so far. Wish they didn't discontinue them!
Retro HHR
A great ride! Easy to drive.

2007 HHR LT2
We absolutly love the Chevy HHrs we are on our third one. Drove the 2006 to 160000 miles no problems. Bought our 2007 with 14000 miles and love this one. We also had a 2011 that was equally great. The only weak issues of all the HHRs we had was the front brakes are good as far as stability but the front rotors are weak and need replacement every couple years. Rotors are very low in cost. Mileage averages 24-29 MPG. Couldnt ask for a more trouble free car. We have th 2.4 engine with auto trans.
