Used 2006 Chevrolet HHR Consumer Reviews
Enjoy Driving It!
It is a fun car to drive around town or the interstate. I perfer interstate driving. Easy to drive, switching lanes passing another vehicle goes very smoothly. Very east to park not to be of a car, but will hold alot of stuff with the back seat laying flat.
Trim is plastic that breaks easy
Glove box on top of dash, made of all plastic, button broke plastic screw holders and they call it trim work. must replace entire box which in 2008 was $250. Inside door handles are made of plastic and break off in your hand when opening the doors from the inside. though the broken piece is less than a 3 oz piece of circular plastic. The dealer says to fix. You must purchase a entire new door. I was quoted $468 dollars to replace with (another entire door with a plastic handle which will just break again) x 4 doors is crazy and not covered under any of the warrentees they sold me. will not buy another chevy.
Smooth ride with some electrical quirks
I enjoy driving this vehicle a great deal. One of the main reasons I purchased it was for the seating features, as I have back problems and the adjustable seat/lumbar support/heat was very attractive to me. The placement of the power window controls are odd (right side "floor" near gear shift)and it's hard to clean the window under the back wiper. The main problem I've had is frequent internal electrical shorts - the horn has gone out twice and I have had problems with the power seat a time or two. It's all covered under the warranty though. I'm hoping it gets sorted out before the warranty expires. I love the car though - lots of room, features, and a thoroughly fun drive.
A lot of fun in a small package
While we purchased this vehicle for my wife to use, I find myself using it every opportunity I get. The driving position is quite confortable, the front seats accomodate my 6'2" large frame and due to the upright sitting position I can move the seat forward quite a bit without compromising my driving comfort. My only complaints are reduced visablity looking over my left hand shoulder, the lack of a center console, the power window positions and the lack of low end umph in the 2.4 litre motor, but then again I'm used to the 5.7 litre V8 in my 95 Impala SS. Overall it's a great car for the value and the styling is always refreshing to see. The sunburst orange metallic is easy to find
More car for your money
I've been impressed with the overall quality of our new HHR. We got ours close to fully loaded and it has features you'd expect to see only on much more expensive cars. It feels more solid than our Honda Accord and has a smoother, quieter ride too. It's not very fast but I guess that's the trade off for the good gas mileage. Overall I'm happy to find an affordable car with good style and lots of cool features that has excellent safety ratings(and side air bags) that's excellent on gas. Chevrolet needs to build more cars like this.
