Lots of dings against this car
I've owned my equinox for about a year and a half. I've had several instances requiring me to take the car in for repairs. I've also had instances where the electronic screen has glitched out on me several times, although those have eventually returned to normal. I had a black screen for about 3 days at one point, but it came back on and I have no idea what changed. The acceleration is terrible on the 4 cylinder engine but the MPG is great, so I guess that is the trade off. All in all, it's a decent but wholly unspectacular SUV.

Piece of crap!!!
Worst car I've ever owned. It was fine the first three years. Everything went downhill after about 50,000 miles. Now it eats oil like crazy (we have to add a quart or more every month, and remember to check it every week or so) and the computer is all messed up... the dash lights go on and off whenever they want, the windows won't go up sometimes. And the fabulous warranty we bought on it doesn't cover anything. Trading it in very soon!!!

Love my Equinox!
This is a great car overall! I would have liked to have air vents in the back for the kids, and maybe another USB port in the back for them, but it hasn't been a problem at all not having those. I had a compact car before, so I adjusted well to the heavier vehicle's need for more stopping distance on wet roads, but the traction control works well, and the brakes are very responsive. It's just something to keep in mind for others who were used to driving smaller, lighter cars. I also was happy to see that my average MPG is higher than it was with any prior, smaller cars (most recently a Mazda 5). I average about 27 in the city and have gotten up to 35 on the highway, measured in stretches of 50 miles. I have only had the car for about a month, and have put a lot of miles on it with a family vacation, so I have had plenty of opportunities to use all of the controls and really get a feel for how easy the controls are and the ease of driving. I love this car! I only had N/A for a lot of the reliability questions because it hasn't come up in the short time that I have had the car.

Don't do it
Bought this car new in oct 2012. No major issues for a few years, standard basic repairs, except the wiper recall. Then, at about 3 years (100,000 miles) it started lurching at stop lights, we started noticing the oil was always low, filling it weekly, even though we were only driving 200 miles/week at that point. At exactly our last car payment (5 years) the timing chain broke and destroyed the engine. The dealership only offered us $500 trade-in. Chevy does not stand behind their vehicles. They know about this issue and have offered little help. I understand that they have revamped the 2018, but too little, too late. This car is junk even with regular maintenance. I'll never get another chevy.
