It's very fun to drive
I purchased a Misano Blue M40i (the 6 cylinder) around Aug 1. I wanted a roadster and considered a Porsche Boxster but decided the BMW was the better value. I have not regretted the decision. The BMW is a blast to drive. I think its very attractive and it even sounds good. It is very quick and responsive. A manual transmission is important to some folks but not to me. If I want to manually shift, I can use the paddle shifters but the automatic is very quick. I appreciate all the convenience and safety options I ordered it with. A Porsche Boxster loaded up with comparable options would be tens of thousands of dollars more. I also considered a Miata, but I liked the over all size, trunk capacity and performance of the Z4.

Z4 sDrive 30i - pleasantly surprised
My wife has always wanted a blue convertible roadster with a tan interior and after many years of waiting she decided to get a 2022 Z4 sDrive 30i in Mediterranean Blue Metallic with Cognac Leather with the Convenience and Premium Level Two packages. She did not opt for the sports handling package. This was her purchase and she did the research with a few suggestions by me along the way. I wasn't sure what to expect so I was pleasantly surprised when I got behind the wheel. Most driving enthusiast sites tout the sDrive 40i with the more powerful engine along with the M version, improved handling, bigger tires, etc...as the way to go. However, I have been very happy with this car. We aren't ever going to take it to the track nor are we looking to push it to the extreme limits of its capabilities. The 4 cylinder 255 horsepower engine offers plenty of power and torque and the car is nicely balanced with the lighter front end due to the smaller engine. The car is refined and the seats are very comfortable. The trunk is larger than I would have expected and the sound proofing is very good. Usually, driving a convertible with the top up is a noisy and unpleasant experience but that is not the case with the Z4. This car could be a legitimate daily driver for most of the year. We got it in the middle of December after waiting 4 months for it to be built. Knowing that my wife would want to drive it on nicer winter days, I swapped out the summer tires for a set of all season Goodyear Eagles and we'll switch them back when the weather warms up in the Spring. Pluses - refined ride - fun to drive - comfortable seats - high quality interior - excellent infotainment system with a bit of a learning curve - quick and responsive without being dangerously fast - again we're looking to have fun on twisty roads, not to break lap records - 8 Speed Automatic Transmission is fantastic - very quick and smooth - Excellent Gas Mileage - especially on the highway. Minuses - BMW upgrades can add up quickly - requires Premium Fuel (no real surprise) - Steering - its electronic so it feels a bit like a video game - brakes are grabby at low speeds so they require some delicate feathering - visibility isn't great with the top up - Minimal storage in the cabin but hey - its a convertible two seater so this isn't a shocker. Overall - she loves the car and I am impressed, it is fun on twisty roads but very comfortable for longer trips with a trunk that allows for weekend getaways and trips to the grocery store, it could be legitimate daily driver.

Z4 M40i thoughts
If you are questioning yourself about purchasing a convertible do not hesitate with the. New z4. The ride is as quiet as a hardtop and smooth in in comfort mode. Test dive one for yourself you will not be disappointed with the comfort and the power the z4 offers. It has been a year of ownership, I still love to drive my Z4. No regrets with my purchase. I get many complements on the looks plus you do not see this model around my area.

Z4 sDrive30i Drive A Blast
I've been a lifetime Toyota and Lexus owner. When I decided to trade in my 2019 Lexus NX300 and 2011 Lexus IS250C, I wanted a fun sports car to drive. I looked at the 2020 Lexus RC350, Audi TT, Mercedes C and E classes, and various Porsche models. I ultimately chose the BMW Z4 sDrive30i. Even though it's the 'base' engine' it has plenty of pep and has great get up and go. I can't believe how much better the BMW drives versus the Lexus RC350. I am mindful of reliability of BMWs due to the extensive use of plastics in their engine bays, which is why I'm leasing this car (otherwise I would have stuck with Lexus if I did a purchase). No regrets on buying this car as I've thoroughly enjoy it.

BMW Z4 30iM
I’ve previously owned two Mazda MX5s, one a manual rag top and the other the RF hard top with auto transmission. We now have the BMW Z4 30iM, at this stage I’ve no complaints about the Z4. From what ever angle you look at the Z4 it has style, it has all the power that you need through an exceptional auto transmission. The difference between the MX5 and the Z4 is that the Mazda is more a Sunday morning car, whereas the Z4 is an any day go any where car - it puts a smile on your face every day.

It's a Keeper...
After owning a 2000 Z3 ///M Roadster and still owning a 2001 Z3 ///M Roadster, I decided that the time had come to upgrade to a 2020 Z4 M40i. I've been an autocrosser for over 20 years and have enjoyed the performance and handling of the Z3's. So after a 6 month search, I found the exact Z4 that I was looking for, but over 1300 miles from home. Nevertheless, my good buddy and fellow autocrosser and also a 2002 Z3 ///M Roadster owner made picking up my car in Washington, we're in Denver, a road trip and off we went. Consummated the purchase two and a half days later and got on the road home. The Z4 M40i is a monster. It is powerful, it is fast, it is beautiful, both inside and out and was a pleasure to drive on the long trek home. The technology built into this car is mind-bending. You can actually press a button on the steering wheel and this sweet voice say something akin to "your wish is my command." Want to map a route on the amazing navigation system, just ask. Want to play a song on your iPhone, just ask, and the list goes on and on. You can adjust the driving mode. You can adjust the suspension. You can adjust so many comfort things and I haven't discovered it all. The stereo... The stereo is surround sound and it fills the car. Unlike the Z3, there is ample trunk space for luggage for two. And on top of all that, and more, it gets really good gas mileage. Remember I said I was an autocrosser? Three days after getting the Z4 home, we had an autocross event. It's gonna take me some time to learn how to control 400 horses and an 8 speed automatic transmission on course, but that's gonna be part of the fun. All and all, the automobile is amazing and I couldn't have made a better choice. It's a keeper.

AH-HA!
I loved the car at first sight..."red"! I like everything about it. NO it is not as fast as a Porsche I had several years back but it makes me happy when I see it and get behind the wheel. As I am older I am having a little difficulty entering and exiting the car when I can't open the door fully. If the top is down there is no problem,

See ya
This is my 4th BMW, the first Z4. I'm not an expert like the folks at Edmunds, just a regular guy who loves BMW's and convertibles! For me it's a no brainer, I got the 30i bc the 40i would be wayyyyy too much power in my hands. The car rides extremely well and the look is awesome. Another reason it stands out is you do see a lot of Bemer's on the road but relatively few Z4's. The local cops have really noticed my car and been followed by a few!

This car zips around town!
We test drove two z4’s- the s30 and the m40 They were both fun to drive but the m40 had the extra power that went beyond the power of the s30. We are looking further into the m40 for 2025.

Pound for pound, one great roadster!
The perma plate option is worth it!
High on power, low on fun
The BMW Z4 M40 offer blazing speed, and a very comfortable cabin with high quality materials. The seats are are about the best that I've experienced. On the other hand, the steering is numb and provides almost zero feedback. It is as if one is driving a video game. Too bad because everything else is top notch. When I'm looking for fun, I hop into my other roadster, a Miata.
