This is my second A4 (3.0 black ext, black int, with ultra sport package and all options except nav). The car is superb in almost every way - e.g. elegant exterior lines; understated, luxuriously appointed cabin; superior storage; and authoritative passing power. The only realy fault of the car is its not entirely adequate 220hp 3.0 engine. While not anemic, this power plant simply does not have enough muscle to move the A4's considerable weight with any alacrity, especially at starts and lower city speeds (0-45 mph) where it cooperates but not very willingly and with way too much drama. Considering the S4 is USD 12k plus away, the A4 needs more uumph.

Be prepared to spend $$$ on maintenance

It's great when it everything is in running order. I bought the car new and have since run it to 188k miles. At 115k, the engine died on me. Something came loose that ruined one of the cylinders. Fortunately, I have a friend who's a mechanic that was able to procure me a used engine with 60k on it. After that, the bushings had to be replaced and then the fuel pump. I love my car and still have it, but I don't think I'll buy Audi again. Too much money for maintenance and gas.

To be honest this car is expensive, but it is worth it. The handling with Quattro is unparalleled, the sport package adds to this and is a must. The combination of exterior and interior styling brings a smile to your face everytime you see the car. The interior is phenomenally comfortable with endless seat adjustments.

One of the Most Competent Cars Out There

As I buy cars for 5-10 years of ownership, I did not want to have a turbo to maintain... and I appreciated the extra power and smoothness of the 3.0 six. Car is incredibly well-suited to long highway stints as well as carving up twisty roads. And it handles city living (and horrible city roads here in Washington, DC) with aplomb. AND when it snows and the city doesn't plow our street we just get in our all- wheel-drive Audi and drive out!!! The warranty and free maintanence --as well as great dealer-- make this a great ownership experience. Very pleased.
