Used 2003 Volvo XC90 Consumer Reviews
Great car thus far
Overall we have been pleased. We got what we paid for. From our demo we had a problem with the rear seatblet - Dealer is dealing with taht today - Our Dealer has been fantastic thus far. Another conern is sever black brake dust on all 4 tires after only 600 mile - Dealer says this is not a concern - we'll see.
First 1000 miles
Traded a 2000 Suburban on the XC90. Clearly a fantastic vehicle. My wife and I have enjoyed every mile so far. Our 3 children 7,4 and 3 are very comfortable without any compromise. No matter where we are, people stop and look at the car, often being complimentary. I recommend this car over a Suburban or an Expedition based on personal experience.

Excellent SUV to have
Compared to BMW's X5, the inside and cargo space is a big advantage. Compared to MDX, it shows more lux. interior design and impressive exterior outlook. The thoughtful 3rd row seat definately outbeats GX470. Regarding the safety issue, this is so far the best among the SUV.
Be happy!!!
My XC90 was the first delivered by my dealer and while people no longer stop me to ask me questions I still catch their admiring stares. Better than that it the comfort and performance. Drove through a snow storm on the PA turnpike to Pittsburg and it was like there wasn't any snow at all. It was awesome and I had to keep reminding myself to slow down even though I didn't feel like it was necessary. The seats are more comfortable than my S500 and I love it. Good solid power at all speeds and commanding braking inspire.
Volvo for life!
I love my Volvo SUV because I feel safe and I know my passengers will be protected in the event of an accident. All the safety features that Volvo offers are the reason I purchased this truck. I will move onto another one next year. This will be my only vechicle brand for the rest of my life, VOLVO,
My XC90!
After waiting for 3 months, I was one of the first people to pick up their XC90. I am happy to say that the wait was well worth it! The ride is beautiful. It's alot easier to park than I expected it to be, and the 6cd stereo has alot of features.
Volvo XC90
Fun to drive - smooth ride, comfortable seats.Navigation system is a pain - remote control programming - the Toyota has a navigation system with a keyboard to key in the addresses - much easier to use than the remote. Speeds of over 70mph on the highway cause a noisy wind humming- very annoying.Gas mileage is poor. Rear seats are for a VERY SMALL children. Other than that, we love it!
volvo
The volvo has it's unique way of style. The comfort and fun to drive stability is great. For winter--an every day driveable vehicle. I't's tough, has enough horsepower to push it's way out of traffic, although it still seems to make fun of driving know matter what condition.
Awesome design; time will tell
This is a well designed vehicle. It has seating for seven(in a pinch; small third row seat), acceptable performance for an SUV and near car like handling. A very nice package. One small problem is my inability to find a snow tire/wheel package for the vehicle. Tirerack.com does not yet have a package listed on its web site.
Get it!
I bought this for my wife. She absolutely loves it! I have a '98 Mercedes Benz ML320, and in a lot of ways, the Volvo is much nicer. Now I understand that I am comparing a '04 to a '98. We have only had the vehicle for 3 weeks, but I don't have anything to complain about except for the price. I did manage did get $1,200 off of sticker though. That is much better than what I have heard most are paying.
XC90- Wow
The Volvo XC90 is an incredible vehicle combining luxury and utility. Every aspect of this car has been thoroughly thought through. This is easily the best SUV available on the market today.
XC90
Overall the best SUV ever. I enjoying it every minute I drive
Impressive Vehicle
Ride is superb. Pick-up very good. Mileage 14.2 mainly around town. Fit and finish are perfect. Features are plentiful. First upscale vehicle we have owned, what a difference. Fun to drive.
Best of the best
Best ride, best performance for value, safest on the road.... and most of all, most versatile. HOT HOT HOT
safety with style
I anxiously awaited the release of theis car to the market and its arrival has exceeded my expectations. Living in the Northeast, your faced with fluctuating road conditions, be it due to weather or just the type of road. This car performs great all around. No SUV or any automobile for that matter can stop on a sheet of ice, so with the Volvo, you can be assured you are safe should you get into trouble. The interior is comfortable, and I think on the outside, is the best looking SUV on the road. Lastly, the Volvo XC90 is very spacious and has an optional third seat that and adult will not be cramped in. It is a fantastic car!
Finallly
After months of waiting with a deposit on a car I had never seen my XC90 finally arrived. The 2.5T AWD drives great. It has a high fun factor for an SUV of this size. Very verstile, very nice. The car gets a lot of attention on the road.
XC90 T6 AWD
This is a superb SUV with more safety features than can be expected. The dealer demonstrated the Anti-Roll and DSTC feature of the SUV and it was absolutley amazing. There was no rolling or swaying of the SUV at all. My other SUV swayed so much in an emergency avoidance that it almost tipped over - that was only at about 40MPH. The Volvo was demonstrated at about 55MPH - AMAZING!
Volvo XC90 -- 2003
Toss up between the X5 and XC90--we choose the XC90. Although we're happy with the vehicle overall, the gas mileage, acceleration, audio system and navigator system need Volvo's attention. Overall the vehicle gets high marks for style (interior/exterior), craftsmanship, comfront and maintenance.
Safety first.. Volvo First
My wife and I wnated a mini van, something that can hold 7 passengers. Waited a year after the intorduction at the Detroit Auto show, and it was WORTH the wait. Car like drive, lots of nice features, and you feel very safe in this suv. I have been sold on Volvo and this is my second car, nothing beats feeling safe! After 6 months I am happy to see all the GREAT reviews... means we made a good decision :)
XC90 KICKS X5 ASS BIG TIME
THIS SUV IS THE ONE OF THE GREAT SUV OUT THERE ROLL OVER PROTECTION UN BELIVEABLE TAKE CORNERS NICE LUX CAR I HAVE NO COMPLANTS ABOUT THIS SUV I OWENED BMW X5 AND IT SEAT AND RIDE IS NITEMARE.
Best Luxury SUV
I looked at all the competitors (mercedes, bmw, acura, lexus, jeep, toyota, etc.) and nothing compares at this price point. Best combination of value, safety, luxury and versatility. Volvo did a great job with this vehicle. Over 50% more space then the BMW on the inside while only being a few inches longer. Only a few thousand more then the Acura MDX but offers so much more in terms of safety and luxury features.
36K Miles
Ours is fully equipped with everything. We driven it 36K miles and really like the car. We have taken 3500 mile trips, and two over 2000 miles. I like the car as a daily driver as well. We have had trouble with the brakes, light coming on and the power assist, was in five times for the problem, but never a safety issue, just a nuisance. Avg. 20-22 mpg on hwy, 14-17 in town. The best 26mpg. Plenty of power for everything except drag racing.
Great SUV
I have test driven the X5 and the ML320 and neither one gave me the same comfort and driving pleasure as the XC90. The fit and finish was superior and the dealership was freindly and professional. In reviewing the options I got with the XC90 I definitely got more car than the Mercedes or BMW and it is safer too. I plan I having this SUV for a long time.
VOLVO XC90
The XC90 is the most luxurious sport utility I have ever owned. With all the computers on-board, loosing traction is impossible, even in the hardest rain fall. This vehicle is glued to the ground. With all the extras for safety, I am never worried about my family driving it even in bad weather conditions.
Volvo xc90
Nice vehicle, turns heads on the street. Perhaps the safest SUV on the road. Superb interior amenities. Downside. Large pillar members increase lateral blind spots when driving.
Float on a cloud!
We bought the first on off the lot. My wife was in love with it. As of today (4 months later) she loves it more now than when we purchased it. Volvo waited to enter the market, but leveled the competition.
Volvo XC90
Nice car thus far reliable. Gas mileage on the lower end of its suugested performance
Volvo SUV Review
Unreal Suv. The best and compared to the BMW a lot less $. The 3rd row seat is great and easy to get back to them.
New Volvo SUV Exceeds Expectations
In 2002 I bought a new Volvo V70 CC wagon, which I loved but missed the kingly height of an SUV. In April I gave the car to my college-aged nephew and bought a 2005 XC90 T6 for myself. My new SUV now has 8000 miles and has only surpassed my expectations in function and handling. Some drivers/reviewers have dissed the programming commands on Volvo's audio and navigation systems. I don't know what they are talking about, but I'd tell them this: Practice makes perfect. Once mastered both systems are easy to operate, and operate like a dream. The navigation system, AKA "Inga," is so handy and reliable I now can't imagine driving without it. Overall my new XC90 is not just good, it's spectacular
After 1 month
So far no bugs or defects. Excellent ride/handling. Very nice seats. 3rd row works and folds very conveniently. Flip down 2nd row headrests are nice for visibility. Interior very "clean" without dumb doodads. Nav system also works well and above-dash design makes it safer to consult while driving. Backup sensors also work, and are good for someone (like me) that has only driven sedans before this.
Simply the Best
The xC90 is simply the best of it's class and all SUVs on the market, including those costing substnatially more money. It rides like a luxury automobile but has the room and power (we have the turbo) of larger SUVs. Superb performance in bad weather - rain or snow.
Volvo Owner No More!
When I first got the vehicle I loved it, but after having it for 2 + years, it's not reliable..something is always wrong with it..had so much trouble with the Axles where it would shake rigourously 60-70 mph..the A/C stops blowing out consistently after 20 min..and when it's on its too darn cold! The temp. gauge doesn't work so it's either freezing or hot.
Outstanding SUV
This car has everything you could ask for in a SUV. Space, performance, SAFETY. The engine has all the power you will ever need and negotiating multiple children around the interior is easy.
Great SUV, Small Tank
This is a very nice SUV, the V6 has lots of zip and is extremely comfortable. Very nicely designed with a lot of clever touches, like headphone jacks in the back seat.
Beautious!
What other vehicle out there cleans the air when it drives ? I quote from my XC90 brochure 'The radiator of the XC90 has a special coating, PremAir, which converts up to 75% of the ozone it encounters into oxygen'. Volvo had waited in the wings for a decade and observed all the SUV do's and dont's and then BAM! they came out with the XC90.
excellent all round performance
I have used this vehicle on the school run as well as on long distance trips overseas in Europe. The comfort reliability and ability on and offroad is exceptional. A recent trip to france with 6 people luggage and 12 cases of champagne proves that this is really in a class of its own. Our Mercedes SUV and X5 dont come near in comfort and drive quality. Lastly, the interior space is unbelievable in the XC90.
Test Drive
Watch out BMW and Mercedes! This vehicle is simply the best. It feels tight and is very easy to drive. I have test driven many Lux SUV's and the Volvo tops them all. The Acura is it's closest match in size, but the Volvo's looks, opions and safety is beyond compare. I feel sorry for those who are willing to pay so much more and get so much less!
Well worth the wait, effort and money
After a 6 month exhaustive search and study of SUVs, the XC90 was chosen, mainly for its extra safety features. If you have children, that in itself, is worth the price. It is stronger then its competetiors in some areas (interior room and design, gas mileage), weaker in others (towing capacity, off roading) but, simply put, no other SUV even comes close to the Safety features.
rear ended
I was waiting at a stop light last Mon when I was suddenly jerked back in my seat. I was rear ended by a full sized chevy pick-up that had been stopped behind me. That truck was rear ended by a dodge daytona that was going 35- 40 mph without braking. The daytona was scrunched up like an accordian, the chevy was damaged enough to be totalled, my xc-90 did what it was supposed to do, it took the impact and deflected the force downward. The whiplash system helped me a ton. My damage was bacically to the lower area and lower liftgate. $2000 damage and being put out, but I cannot overemphasize my impressment of the safety of this unit!!
There is no other SUV in this league
Combine build quality, safety, design, and safety into the ultimate SUV and you get the XC90 T6, Contrary to the media's view, I drove both the 5 and 6 and found the 5 to be very buzzy and underpowered, especially at passing speeds. The ride of this vehicle is better than many cars. I own a 2004 Passat GLX (top of the line) and I find the handling of the Volvo SUV better. We also looked at the BMW X5 3.0, MB ML320, and Acura MDX.. butI I highly recommend this vehicle.
Great so far
Have had our xc90 for 7 weeks now, and am extremely impressed so far. have used the flat folding front passenger seat three times already. plenty of cargo room and the most well thought out interior design i've seen... extremely user friendly. handles great (for an suv) and love telling my suv- hating friends that my suv pumps 1/4 the pollutants into the air as their recent model compacts. a good tradeoff on handling vs plushness... corners great and is still dead quiet and comfy on most roads.
Cool...
I feel so safe in this thing I can't even begin to tell you... Living in San Francisco I do drive agressively and the T6 has plenty of power for me plus, I saw a segment on KTVU that had the reporter really do his best to try and flip the XC90... to no avail. this vehicle is cool, slick AND safe.
GREAT GREAT GREAT SUV
Shopping for a Cross Country, until I test drove the XC90 T-6. Quality and Safety is all about this SUV. Driving the XC-90 will blow you away, its sooo smooth you can't believe its a SUV. OH, did I mention all the Safety features. Purchased it on the spot. You have to experience this yourself, hard to discribe.
My first SUV
We were looking for a safe 7 seat vehicle, comfortable seats, reliable and economical to run. The MDX is only the only other SUV to come close to this descripition. The fuel economy (or lack thereof) has surprised me in the first 800 miles. My Toyota Tundra V8 does better in city and on highway. I have BABIED the XC90's throttle and I get 14 mpg (US gallons)in the city and 20 mpg on highway. Tell me it's just during the break-in period?! Dealer tried a few "tricks" when I went to pick it up, but they backed down when I objected. Otherwise, our whole family is very happy, comfortable and safe.
Urgent Transmission Service Required
We waited six months for it. With 200 miles on the odometer, taking daughter to school, my wife had to call Volvo roadside assistance due to sudden sluggishness follwed by a dashboard message "Urgent Transmission Service Required." The dealer had the car for 4 days, and flew in a Volvo master tech to fix the problem - bad solenoid that locks in gears. Dealership never heard of problem, but one of the salesman heard that it had happened in a handful of other XC90's with low mileage. Aside from this early problem, we love the stylish exterior, the comfy interior, the practical seating, the decent soundsystem.
Test drive
Just recently took one for a spin at the Volvo test drive event. Was impressed by all the safety features. Drove like a sedan. Great roll control. Integrated child booster seats. Wonderful handling and control.
TEST DRIVING THE VOLVO XC90 T6
I have had the pleasure to have as a loaner a VOLVO XC90 T6 to drive over a weekend. By joining the SUV market late, Volvo has taken advantage of features and experiences of its competitors and improved upon them. Safety and dependability is the foremost concern at Volvo. I found the car fun to drive handling well in the city as well as on the highway. Steering is light and accurate. The ride is smoother than I expected. The car comes with standard features seen in only a few, if any, of its competitors. The 6 cylinder engine is a must without which the car would be sluggish.
Best SUV
I've had it for almost 4 months and it's great. Love the way it handles - it's zippy! Had a Jeep Grand Cherokee before and it was a chore to drive. The XC90 is fun. Lots of room, seats are comfortable - I feel safe in Seattle traffic. Gas mileage is only 15 mpg and the hesitation when you accelorate at low speeds are negatives.
not sure
Had the vehicle a month and a few things puzzle me. With three rows of seating, my family is cramped. Also, the automatic transmission fells sloppy. Aside from these, has a nice car-like feel.
XC90s cool mode is always on
my friend only talked about this vechicle for months. i now cant ador much more. its ride is very car like ride. it has volvo safty.
