Niggles and comparison to Discovery Sport
Intermittent engine stops whilst waiting at traffic lights, not in eco mode. The engine is very quiet so the lights change clutch down into gear and then nothing.....restart engine, this happens about 1 in 20 times. The electronic break would not come off whilst attempting to reverse off my driveway, no amount of forward or reverse power made any difference then all of a sudden an almighty bang and it released, I expected to bit of the car under it on the driveway, a similar incident happened whilst my wife was using the car once. The need to depress the boot open switch on the key for a period of time is very irritating, my Discovery Sport was a lot better in this area. Yesterday I reversed up my driveway (which has a slope on it) for the first time, I thought the clutch would burn out it did not like it (I had a full load) lastly be very light footed when driving off from stationary it is very easy to spin the front wheels. I like the VC40 but I think the Discovery Sport is a better drive, why did I swap then? The Discovery Sport was diesel and I now do short journeys across town the Sport is not suitable for this type of journey you end up with all sorts of filter problems. I do wish I had 4x4 capability again though.

One of the worst cars I ever owned
The car is VERY heavy, not fun to drive as you feel in a tank. Zero aerodynamics...spend a lot in gas. Plus after a month, Apple Play doesn’t work. Don’t spend $$$ on navigation as you need the postal address for most locations. The worst feature is the air-conditioning. I live in NJ and tend to run cold but am boiling in this car, even at full blast. The interior is good but the chasis, everything else is questionable. I’d love to dump this car for a Mazda CX-5. Just wonder if I could.

Can't wait until my lease is up!
I hate writing bad reviews, but I have to say that this car has been a major disappointment -- wish I had kept my Honda CRV Touring instead. The heating and cooling controls are super-confusing, and seem to have a mind of their own (despite reading the Owner's manual to set my preferences, etc.), the car uses premium gas which I hadn't realized prior to leasing, and the car is much smaller capacity-wise than my CRV. And oh...............I will NEVER again get a car without a retractable trunk cover. The hardcover in my Volvo actually hurts to touch (think fiberglass pieces getting stuck in you hand), and I now keep the cover stowed away as it is so impractical and ouchy.......The car is cute to look at, I like the sound of the stereo, and it drives well enough but I liked driving my CRV just as well (if not better...............). I'm taking the car in next week to repair of a recall issue, and to check for what might be a potential leak of some sort near the front of the car.............sad as I have less than 8,000 miles on the thing..........

Heater doesn’t work - 2 years in a row
So this is a cute car. I feel safe. I like the display inside. I would keep it for awhile….except….my heat hasn’t worked for 2 years in a row now. 1st year wasn’t diagnosed correctly and dealership got it to work for the winter by flushing system. This year? Corrupt sensor requiring dashboard to be taken off and a 3 day time period at the dealership. And guess what? It might not be covered because the warranty has expired (4years). Only has 38k miles. But if I don’t get this fixed - I’ll be freezing all winter. I truly hope Volvo can can help me here.
