So far, so good

Just picked up my new Cross Country Wagon this week and I took it onto dirt roads in the desert last night. It drives over city potholes and country washboards with absolute competence and nice cushion. I can't wait to break the car in with more excursions.

Every day I love it more

I'm sure I will add to this review over time. I spent a long time debating over my next car. I was coming from my first (and last) CUV and only knew I wanted a car again. A wagon made sense to retain some of the practicality that the CUV afforded which narrowed down the field quite a bit. My head kept telling me to go with the Subaru Outback but my heart wasn't in it. My spouse has a C-Class Cabriolet and I mused about a C-Class wagon (which is available in Canada). Many years ago, I chose a 2004 Passat GLX 4Motion wagon over a 2004 Cross Country and sometimes wondered if I made the right choice, which is brought my attention back to Volvo. The V90 wagon variants, although stunning and large, were a little more than I was prepared to spend. The V60 T6 was very difficult to find but there was a decent selection of V60 Cross Country T5s across the country. I test drove one, watched and/or read every review I could find and ultimately placed the order. 2022 Volvo V60 Cross Country with Polestar Optimization, Premium Package, Advanced Package, Climate Package, Lounge Package and a few other a la carte options. It took me a few days to readjust back to a car after moving from a CUV (2019 Kia Sorento SXL) but I couldn't be happier. Cars just feel safer, more planted and handle better. It is already noticeably better on gas too - which is good since it takes premium fuel. Performance - it is a quick, spirited vehicle despite reviewers claims otherwise. The 2.0 turbo 4 cyl is responsive and smooth, in any drive mode. Driving with the Polestar Optimization mode activated enhances the performance in my experience with quicker shifts and longer gear ranges. In contrast to the C-Class's 2.0 turbo four, it seems quieter too. The braking seems sure-footed and gives confidence and the steering is precise and neither too soft nor too firm. Comfort - the front seats are incredibly comfortable, certainly the most comfortable I've ever experienced which draws from a wide range of premium and non-premium vehicles. My car is equipped with the heated and cooled seats, both of which add to the comfort. It is quite easy to find a perfect driving position too with fully adjustable seats, including thigh extension, side bolters and lumbar. Technology - so far, I'm impressed. It was perhaps the one area I was concerned about as many reviewers seem to be conflicted. The touchscreen has most of the controls, which seems a little much, but after a few days, I was totally accustomed to it and found I could quickly make adjustments without much effort or distraction. There are a few things I still need to learn and I'm not sure yet if there are tricks and tips for setting preferences but I prefer to have the 360 degree camera automatically turn on when backing up. That said, I have to share the 360 camera is not as clear or helpful as I've had in my other vehicles or our 2018 C Class. The adaptive cruise/pilot assist, on the other hand, may be the best I've experienced yet. It is very smooth and well-mannered. I have come to appreciate and rely on these semi-autonomous self-driving aids over the years but have also found most to be abrupt and jarring when engaging and unengaging. This system seems more natural. Style - my car is finished with the denim blue metallic and the blond napa leather interior. It is, quite frankly, stunning and head turning. I like the lines of the wagon. Infotainment - I touched on the Sensus system above and, personally, have gotten quite used to it and find it works well. It seems to be responsive enough for me too. I did not get the Bowers & Wilkins upgraded stereo system as I'm not someone who listens to music very often in the car but I did push the limits of the Hardon Kardon system and it sounds quite good to me (again, not an audiophile at all). Fit & Finish - As with most premium vehicles, there is a stark difference in the materials used and the quality of the finishes. This car is no different. Everything feels substantial to the touch. As I live with the vehicle, I will probably update this but, suffice it to say, I'm quite pleased with the purchase of this vehicle.

Love this car, hate the electronic gremlins

This gorgeous vehicle drives like a sport car- what a dream! pretty darn good mileage on the highway (28mpg), 26-27 city with all season tires ( snow tires eat more gas, as expected- still far better than my suburban). It is the most comfortable seat/cabin I have ever experienced, and the safety features and finishes are second to none. Finally, after multiple factory resets and software updates, the electrical gremlins seem to be gone. They were: loss of button function on steering wheel, touchscreen unreactive, driver door mirror randomly moving almost every time the car was started, a/c turning itself on (no, not the windshield defrost feature) when temps were in the 40s F, touchscreen display not loading, nav stopped working several times. These malfunctions were random and not frequent (minus the driver side mirror)- but I had begun to sour on the car. Finally, with these software bugs (seemingly) resolved, I can looooove this baby again.

Add the Polestar Optimization from the dealer!

Adding the Polestar Optimization brings back much of that punch that many of us previous T6 owners appreciate. That and ultimately comfortable seating, good storage space, and All Wheel Drive summer/winter capacity, the V60 T5 Cross Country checks all the boxes for me.
