Got a good one
We bought this car in '99 with 57k on it. Now has 150k miles. Had all of the normal problems (brakes, cam sensors, squeaks in dash, bulb burnout, etc.) but these have all been relatively minor. I can never understand why folks take their cars to the dealers for service and get ripped off - find someone else! I fix most things myself so costs have been rather low. It's a solid car that we got for my wife to be safe in. Will probably sell it next year but overall it has been a decent car and we'll miss it. Probably the best student car out there (safe, durable, not too powerful).
Worst car I've ever owned
We bought this car originally because of its safety and reliability ratings. I still feel safe in it, but it's been one headache after another: little things at first, but then a $1,400 A/C repair at 45,000 miles, numerous electrical system issues, and today, at 91,000 miles, I'm told a rod in the engine has been thrown. Unreal...this in a car that was meticulously maintained. I'd never by another Volvo.

Enjoying my 850 Turbo-starting to worry
I bought my car 1 year old from the dealer. I had all scheduled maint. done at the dealer. I have been very happy with reliability for the past 5 years. It now has 73K miles and I am having to do some major maint. that is very expensive. New engine mounts (known to go bad), new struts, shocks, brake rotors, radiator, dented rim. Roads are rough around Dallas and I drive it hard, it just seems like a major overhaul. I was going to trade it but decided to do the repairs and hope to keep it for another two years/25K mi.
Not a Toyota...but
Definitely less reliable that previous Toyotas, but certainly not bad. Main problems have been replacing all brakes and rotors plus expensive tires every 35K or so. Ignition switch, oxygen sensor, and door stop replaced (tore out weld), A/C recharged once. Some dash rattles started before 60K miles. Power is adequate without turbo. No transmission problems yet (106K).
No complaints!
This car has been very reliable. It is a great highway car and four people can truly travel in comfort and style. It could have more power, but what car couldn't. Better than expected gas mileage at 80mph. Engine is just as smooth at 100,000miles as when new. excellent.
