Used 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Consumer Reviews
Transmission problems etc
2019 already transmission problems, burning oil, had to replace the water pump bc low oil and low coolant constantly, dealerships won’t acknowledge the transmission problems and utilize the warranty even though there is a class action law suit for this specifically. Tried to charge me 1500 dollars out of warranty to change the spark plugs (too early for that) and to spray some type of engine spray on it, and change the breaks (don’t need to be changed). Oil caked all over my back window, just added another almost quart a year after they fixed the water pump, low oil is happening again, just changed the oil 3 months ago. Why is it low on oil again? Dealership wants 200 to diagnose, not under warranty if they can’t can’t find any issue, saying anything less than a quart low is within range. Goodbye lemon. Some 72k mile warranty. Only thing it fixed was the water pump, I’ve spent more money bringing it to them to find out what else is wrong with it than them fixing it. It’s a racket.

Solid Contender in its Class, Bigger than it seems
After exploring several options in the midsize SUV segment, the Tiguan SE was my pick. For ~$24K it offered the best value for money without feeling or sounding cheap in any way. Rear seat legroom is more than enough for most adults, even for long road trips. The 3rd seat is a joke unless you have kids under 10, but useful in a pinch. The only gripe I have about it is that it takes up a good bit of cargo space that can be had if you opt for the 4motion AWD model (3rd seat not available on that one). Has a higher level of refinement in handling than its competitors and the 2.0l turbo engine and 8-speed transmission work well to deliver avg. 33mpg or so on highway (I've nursed it to over 37 on my commute). VW's new infotainment system is best in class. Nothing offered by Honda, Kia, or Toyota comes close. It is intuitive, very fast, has a very sharp touchscreen, and sounds decent. I wish VW would incorporate some of their European-spec headlight technology in their North American models. This would be something I would pay extra for.

Great car after 5 years
I drove the Honda CR-V and the Jeep Cherokee and compared all three. For me to buy the Jeep comparably priced cost would have been higher and a fraction of the warranty no third row seat. I found the same with the Honda CR-V. The third row seat is tight but a seat available in the back is better than no seat. There is plenty of cargo space versus the crv and Jeep. My wife drives the Tiguan now and is interested in getting another one after five years. I’m am waiting to see what the 2025 will look like. We’ll see!

Lots of Car for the Price
Love the design, under-rated engine actually performs well just drove it from NJ to Florida, great ride and comfort. It looks great, drives great, gas mileage could be a little better but adequate, cargo area is just fine severed us well. Use to midsize SUV this one is a great compliment. Driver’s aids are good warning sounds could be more distinct interior is awesome and Tech excellent. Great car for the price.
