It's Still a Truck, Not a Passenger Sedan

2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Pros:
Still runs strong at ~197k miles. Ideal for small families and daily driving. Averages ~15 mpg—not great for long trips, but perfect for camping, hunting, and trail use. I’ve hauled heavy gear, firewood, and even pulled a SAR trailer through TN and NC mountains during Hurricane Helene. Excellent in sand with proper tires and PSI. More capable than a Jeep in my opinion. Great for … sport and light work—not luxury or long adult road trips. I'm running 295/70/17 Nitto Grapplers (2.4" lift). Paint has held up well, and it handled 3+ ft floodwaters with no issue (snorkel and breathers helped).
Cons:
Interior and exterior plastic scratches easily and shows age. Headlights dulled—replaced in June 2025.
Maintenance:
Runs well on synthetic fluids and even E10 fuel. Known issues: tie rod failed (~120k), dome light switches failed twice, alternator and exhaust gasket replaced. Flushed trans at 70k (solved slipping). Fixed the minimal rust on the frame with Corroseal and repainted. No major rust overall. Replacing O2 sensors at ~200k. Owned since 2010—plan to keep it for life or pass it to my sons.
