A most Excellent Hybrid

2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE Premium 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
We put a deposit down to be on the wait list for a 2022 Rav 4 hybrid. We wanted XLE Premium trim but were flexible on the color. Our salesman said it was taking about 2-4 months. We got a call one week after we put down the deposit. They received a black XLE Premium Rav 4 and we got called because four other people did not want the black color.
We took delivery on Friday, June 10, … 2022. The salesman was extremely helpful. He demonstrated all the new technology and made sure that we were comfortable before we drove home.
We came out of a 2012 Rav 4 V-6 Limited that we bought new. Carvana gave us a fantastic offer to buy it outright. The 2012 Rav could get about 24 mpg on a long trip. Otherwise, about 19 in town.
As another reviewer noted, the new Rav is leaps and bounds ahead of our 2012. It is a bit smaller, at least on the inside, but still very roomy. The new Rav is substantially quieter than our 2012. The ride is very smooth, tight, and you can tell that this is using Toyota's new TGNA chassis. The power is very good, comparable to our old V-6. The throttle tip in is spot on, compared to the hyper sensitive throttle on our old Rav V-6. Very impressive. Our new one has the JBL audio upgrade. This is an amazing sound system. Excellent depth, clarity and loudness without distortion.
The new safety features are a huge upgrade. Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor, pre collision braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Advanced cruise control, and so on. Very nice and they are very helpful.
We drove 32 miles home on the highway and averaged 43,8 mpg. The braking feels no different than what we are used to. Just good, strong braking. The Rav runs on battery quite a bit and has Stop/Start when you stop. Electric motors get you going and gas kicks in when needed. Hats off to Toyota, because all of these systems operate seamlessly and you would not know when the gas engine cycled on or off unless you looked at the monitor that shows the power flow.
The build quality is exceptional. Ours was built in Canada where the Lexus equivalent is assembled. The 9" display is clear, and responds well to inputs. The Sirius xm radio sounds amazing through the JBL.
Have not driven it at night yet, but I look forward to the blessing of LED lighting. We also had the door edge guards and body side moldings put on. I will add the mudguards later.
We are very happy with our new hybrid!
Update: all that I noted in the first review remains true. We now have 16,000 miles on it and as of today, the MPG is at 47.7! Cold weather drops your mileage so after winter we were at 41.1 MPG.
We have had our car for 2 1/2 years. ALl that I initially posted remains true. Great quality, all things work as they did when we bought it and mileage continues to impress.
Update June 2025: our Rav continues to perform flawlessly with great mileage
