Great little SUV
I've been driving a Infiniti QX4 for the last 8 yrs or so and has been a good SUV. Due to the outrages gas prices here in Canada I'm forced to scale back. I got the 2010 Matrix with the 1.8 liter and sport package and went for the optional hood defector and side moldings for those pesky door dents I hate. Gas mileage is awesome the first tank I put threw it I got 37 mpg or 7 liters per 100 km, blows the stats right out of the water. I suspect it to only get better as things loosen up more, and I'm able to use synthetic oil after the break in. Everything has been so far so good, but I haven't had it that long yet.
Honda lost me
Been driving a civic hybrid for five years. My local Honda dealer's service was great. Went back. Drove the CR-V and crz. Didn't like either one. Decided to go look at the toyz. Found just the right compromise with for and the boss (wife) in the matrix. I got my SUV. She got her sports car. It's early but we both love it. If you're looking for a great priced mid-sized SUV you gotta check the matrix out.

Nice car but some safety issues
This Matrix XR is being driven by a pair of 60plussers involved with elderly care thus requiring transporting elderly person plus wheelchair. This works well due to the relatively high cargo floor and hatchback.
Mid-pack, but reliable
Toyota reliability, but that's about it. Average car with overly sensitive pedals and average appearance. The inside space is used effectively, standard materials for the price point, but the overall design isn't for me personally. No issues in two years/45,000km. Don't enjoy driving it too much, but it is certainly functional, with lots of hatchback space for groceries, a large dog - whatever you need. Gas consumption leaves a lot to be desired; even by 2010 model year standards it was decidedly average. Not great fan of the seats. Interior space, reliability, solid build, functionality are good. Drive enjoyability, consumption, appearance are bad. Could to better, could do worse
Maybe not too Thrilling but does the job
Purchase my Matrix in May . Have about 2000km on it now . I am uninspired.... no excitement with this car . I am not saying I am disapointed with the car it seems big enough , sturdy enough, the milage is no screaming hell but acceptable consider i used to drive a one ton ford 5.4l truck. The car is eaisy for large people to get into including the back seat the roof racks haul alot of weight but sit to far back on the car to be really use full you will have a hard time puting on a ski box on the roof with stock racks. Lacks adjustment on the intermittent wipers (no settable delay feature). Interior color is light grey and stains with a touch
