Used 2011 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Consumer Reviews
Better Than I Hoped For
When I bought the car over 4 1/2 years ago, I never expected to get close to the EPA ratings on the gas mileage. But I frequently get gas mileage exceeding the 28 mpg predicted. I have gotten a full tank to average over 31 mpg on a couple of occasions. A full car with 4 people and luggage driving over 70 mph will be closer to 26.5 or 27 and in a Chicago winter sometimes getting 24 mpg. Right now I have close to 108,000 miles and I have never changed the brakes and I am still on my second set of tires. I have never had a repair issue other than normal maintenance. I have only had to change one brake light and no headlights. The real surprise is that I am now in the market for another car and I cannot find another car that can give me the cargo capacity and mileage that this Highlander gives me, not even the 2016 Highlander.

Very disappointed in the 'hybrid' aspect of this car. Have reached the 5000 mile mark where the dealer said it would take that long for the car to get used to my driving, whatever that means. Anyway, I am still averaging 18 MPG on city streets and only get above 20 when I go on the highway, which is only about 1/week. It's definitely NOT worth the difference in cost, go for the regular!

Update
We've now had our 2001 HiHy for over a month. Still averaging over 30 mpg city and 27 mpg hwy. Absolutely love the roominess, pick-up and mileage.
Great commuter with flexible utility
I've been eyeing and researching this vehicle for a while, and Toyota's recent financial incentives have finally made me buy it (was able to get 0% / 5 years). The experience (2 weeks now) has exceeded my expectations in almost every category. The only "downgrade" is less cargo space compared to an older van with removable seats I drove before. Daily drive: 80 miles (25 miles on town/arterial roads at 35/55 mph, and 55 miles on freeways at 60-70 mph). The average gas mileage on 3 tanks so far is at 25.5 mpg. Excellent commuter with utility flexibility; great for moving family of 4 with a large dog (German Shepard) with folded 3rd row. When grandparents come to visit, we all can still fit.
27.5 mileage; love this vehicle!!
With several months of driving down, we have advanced to 27 plus every tank. What a great vehicle!! The major downside is the back row, which really doesn't serve anyone except kids and skinny girls that don't mind cramped legs. Very peppy and great gliding from the hybrid engine. Highly recommend!!
