Used 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Consumer Reviews
Great SUV
We have had our Highlander Hybrid for 12.5 years/180,000+ miles and it is still going strong; minimal mechanic charges; just a great all around vehicle for our family.

Disappointing
I was extremelly disappointed with the fuel economy. I got an average of 21 mpg - way below than expected. Granted I used the air conditioning all the time as I live in Fl but I did not push the car hard. A hybrid should have better fuel economy for its price tag.

Sherman tank that gets great gas mileage
Prior to buying this vehicle, I owned a 2002 Honda CR-V and thought that it was the best car ever built. Then I bought my Highlander Hybrid with 26K miles and the it is more rugged and gets better mileage than the smaller Honda. This 06 Highlander Hybrid has it all: Good Looks. Great interior space. Smooth ride with a CVT transmission. Good gas mileage for a powerful SUV I get about 26 MPG overall. While this is less than advertised, it is still very good for a car with 268 HP that is built like a Sherman Tank. I typically keep a car for 200K plus miles and I am confident that this will go way beyond this milestone with basic maintenance.
Love it
I can't speak to reliability, as I have had the car less than a month. However, I've tested in various conditions (not in snow yet), and I love it so far. The ride is comfortable, it's incredibly smooth and quiet (luxurious feel), and the interior space and layout is very user friendly. It gets more than double the gas mileage of my last car (a Ford Explorer), yet is nearly the same size. The visibility is good, and I recommend the navigation system/ computer. The seats are the most comfortable I've ever had in a car--and even the back seats adjust forward and backward. This car also has a third row seat, though I wouldn't use it regularly (it's small.) VERY happy with it.
Disappointed
This car wasn't great. It is one of the first hybrid models out there and we bought this car new and it has about 50K on it now. We've had some pricey problems with it though. At times it won't start and have had many recalls on it for steering! And if you spill even a little bit of water you'll short out all the electronics in the car!!!! That was over $7500!!!! The car does drive pretty nice and does have a lot of power though. And I was in an accident in it and the engine did shift but luckily not onto us. I personally don't think it was that safe. The car is okay but not worth the money.
