UPDATE I now have over 17,000 miles on this car. My fuel mileage is consistently over 52mpg without even trying. There have been zero issues with the vehicle, except for picking up a nail in a tire. The car is comfortable, rides good and drives great. The only complaints I have are the lack of blind spot monitoring-this is a terrible omission on Toyota’s part. I also think there is significant road noise associated with these tires. This car is FAR better in every way than the 2008 Prius I bought new. I’ve put over 1,000 miles on this car in a little over a week since I purchased it. It’s my second hybrid. First was a 2008 Prius. There is no comparison between the two cars. I’m 6’3” and 250lbs. This car is tremendously comfortable for me. I drove an Insight and felt like I had to nearly lie down to get in it. Once inside, my right knee started hurting from being pressed against the console. Enough about the subpar Honda. The Corolla is superior. I’m avg. 64 mpg with 70% driving on two lane roads, 20% at 68mph on parkway and 10% in the city. Great ride and unbelievably quiet!! So far, it’s been fantastic. My only complaint is that the passenger seat can’t be raised so my passengers tend to “fall” into the seat, especially the first time they ride in the car. Great job, Toyota! The Prius could be on life support.

Love the car. We buy hybrids for the fuel economy. I'm getting 65 mpg avergae right now. The husband drives a little harder and gets 60+. Thats amazing, plus its better looking than a prius. Very happy. Could have better supension but thats about it. For the money an awesome deal.

Great 1st Hybrid

This is my first hybrid car and I would have to say I'm impressed. The car gets great gas mileage, but the gas engine gives it a little kick so the acceleration doesn't feel that lazy. Not to mention it has all the tech features including a large display, blue tooth, and keyless lock/unlock and start. And it's quiet! You can hardly tell when the gas engine kicks on giving a smooth and comfortable ride. Once again, great 1st hybrid!

Stealth Prius

I liked the Prius hybrid concept, but found the style beyond what I could tolerate. So when the Corolla Hybrid was released, that barrier was removed, and I bought one. I was surprised at how quiet it was on the freeway, far lower wind noise than I expected. Gas mileage is as expected, excellent. Handling is very good as well. Overall feels very solid. It does get a bit buzzy when called upon to accelerate hard or go up steep hills quickly, but you can't expect otherwise for this kind of vehicle, and it is only occasionally that the engine becomes obvious. Transitions in electric/gas acceleration and regen/friction braking are very smooth. I only give a 4-star rating for two annoyances. One: no spare, jack, or lugwrench; just a bottle of goo and a pump to repair minor punctures. I'm not comfortable with that, so it cost ~$300 to get a full-size spare and related tools (aftermarket). Fortunately, there is enough room in the trunk well for a full-size spare. Two: the rocker panel (the plastic trim just below the doors on the outside) is apparently designed for looks, but causes minor issues. It sticks out an inch or so beyond the door line, making it look low and racy I guess... but then entry and exit is slightly more difficult. In addition, the sadistic designer made it relatively pointy, and it can be a real ankle-banger if you're not careful. At the moment, due to some strange glitch, I'm still unable to register for the Toyota Owner's group, where you can do a few things online... but that has nothing directly to do with the car itself, so I didn't de-rate it further. Overall, I'm very pleased with the car, and would probably give it 4.5 stars if I could do that.

I have the same complaints as others: Only one trim level, passenger seat is low and can't be raised, no spare tire. I can easily overlook these things since the car is getting me over 63 MPG in city driving. It's quiet, refined, and feels well built. So far I am happy with the purchase and surprised at the MPG's
