Used 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Consumer Reviews
Little car that could
We now have over 18,000 miles on our Corolla XSE and over all are thrilled with how the car handles. The engine and transmission are unmatched for a small car. I would say improvements could be more leg room in the rear, which you get with the Sedan. Also handling the in snow can be tricky, I understand the new Corolla Cross comes in AWD, that is a very smart move. AND a sunglass holder in the roof would be nice. In all, any corolla you buy will be a great car, living in Cleveland I think the AWD version would be the way to go.

Strong engine hampered by a terrible CVT
If you want any kind of performance, you need to get a Corolla with a manual transmission. The CVT is a total dog, a real tragedy for this 168hp motor. I tried the "manual" mode with the paddle shifters, and I tried using the "sport" button. Neither helped. The lag between pressing the accelerator and anything happening other than an ugly droning noise was just bad. I cross-shopped this model vs. the Mazda 3 (which has an actual torque converter automatic) and the Kia Soul, which also has a 2.0L and a CVT. The 2020 Soul's CVT is new this year, but is much better executed, and the Mazda has a larger 2.5L engine. Either would be a better choice, the Mazda (a FWD hatch is about the same price as the Toyota) having way more zip, and the Soul having both better power delivery and more cargo space. Driving either of them back to back with the Corolla hatch and you won't find much reason to buy the Toyota.

mostly love it
I purchase my 2019 Toyota corolla hatchback in February 2019 about a week ago we notice that at times when doing u turns or when accelerating from a stop position the vehicle would lose power, it would not do it all the time maybe a few times a week or every two weeks so at the first service we notify the technician but they found nothing later on we had a few close calls when during a stop we thought we had the area clear so we would attempt to go and the vehicle would give us enough power to trust us in the middle of the street,, we have notify Toyota and has had the vehicle inspected a few times and they can’t recreate the problem about two weeks ago when a vehicle was trying to cross the road but their nose was out to far and the vehicle in front of me had to go around so as not to hit it and since I was behind I also slowed down but when I gave it was the vehicle went very slow in front of the other vehicle which prevented him from crossing the street I then got curse at because they tough I was doing it on purpose. I am bringing it back next week to check it out for the fifth or six times, other than this problem we love our car I just hope it doesn’t kill us

Fun to drive, SMALL, hatchback!
I bought my 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback as a CPO. It had 10,000 miles on it when I bought it. I’ve had it a couple weeks and couldn’t be happier. It’s honestly hard to find things to complain about but I have a few. CONS: - It’s small. It’s a perfect size for a single person or a couple but I wouldn’t want to squeeze children in the back seat. It’s cramped and there’s not a lot of cargo area. It’s a small hatchback though so I expect that. - The infotainment leaves much to be desired. It’s a good size screen and it does offer Apple CarPlay, which is great, but the other features are pretty useless. The screen can be slow to respond when not using Apple CarPlay and the screen isn’t the best resolution but it gets the job done for sure. - There’s absolutely no storage. No little pockets or places to really put your phone or sunglasses. You have a little spot in front of the shifter and a couple door pockets but that’s it. While there’s a couple negatives, there’s positives as well. PROS: - Quick, nimble, fun to drive. Even with the CVT (which I was worried about) it’s always in the right ratio and giving you the most power. The paddle shifters work great and simulating gears. The steering feel isn’t the best but it does a decent job at providing you feed back of what’s happening with the tires. Suspension is great if a little shaking over rough cracked roads but extremely comfortable. - The headlights are super bright. The automatic high beams are awesome for back roads. You never have to worry about blinding someone. The taillights are awesome looking and really give a distinct look to the rear end. - The safety tech works great. Lane keeping, lane centering, radar cruise. It basically drives itself on the highway. Very helpful for traffic as well. Overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase. Definitely make sure it’s the right size for you and your family and look at the screen and really use it if that’s important to you. Extremely great value, especially if you can find one CPO.
