Used 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Consumer Reviews
Fun Driving Manual
While I am the first to acknowledge small niggles with this car, I enjoy driving it so much, I just love it. First, the love. I bought the XSE manual, which I’ve enjoyed driving through the winding hills between home and work. There is ample pep to get me up to speed around a corner, and a delightful acceleration as I drop it into 2nd and rev it up. Well balanced suspension, appreciate the independent rear. Brakes work great without being touchy. Interior is pretty and comfortable. Infotainment is more functional than Honda—my wife has a 2018 CR-V. Gauges are well done, although the big LCD center gauge is only really good for fuel economy. Seats are comfortable. Outside is so pretty. I added OEM crossbars and mudflaps for a rally car aesthetic. Now the niggles. The seat sensors are touchy so if I carry a case of water in the front passenger seat, I get a shrieking warning to buckle the imaginary passenger. If my 2 kids sit in the back, the car will think there is someone sitting in the middle seat resulting in a need for a ghost buckle. The center console lid In my configuration does not slide forward, so I can’t comfortably rest my right elbow. Heated steering is only available in Canada. The gas filler is really cheap looking. The speakers are overly cheap, I took the dash tweeters out and they are the cheapest paper cones you could imagine. Not loving the door speakers either. CarPlay generally works, but periodically, the interface will get clipped to an inch tall banner requiring me to replug. Also it launches too slow. The space allocated for the phone is too small and the phone will often slide off. Bluetooth pairing doesn’t work while using CarPlay. Would be great if there was a 2nd USB port for a thumb drive of music. Don’t care for the OEM tires, to the point I much prefer my winter Bliztech I rode on during winter. The auto brake hold and rev matching should default to on. Not obvious how to show gas mileage per tank instead of gas mileage per trip. Not obvious what the use of 6th gear is versus 5th. Takes a lot of diligence to get 34mpg Highway, much more work then in my previous 2003 Civic. Boot space is tiny and rear seating is cramped. Still I knew this when I choose a short, maneuverable car. Still love the car.
Problems
I got this car new as a company provided car. Pros: Sporty handling, impressive acceleration. Styling. Size. Cons: Slightly sharp ride. Rear passengers are literally sitting above the rear wheels. Problems at 50k miles: Microphone does not work. Cannot roll down the left rear window from the driver's controls. Bluetooth connection is temperamental. USB connection is temperamental (No, it's not the cable). Cannot reset maintenance warning message. Engine has a ignition miss.

Removing all the good features would make it great
I loved this car for the first 1,100 miles, then everything went south. The Toyota "safety sense" features don't actually work. The lane trace assist, along with the Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise are horrible, and border line false advertising. The brakes will be applied fully at the absolute wrong time, like taking off from a stop light or 15 cars behind someone slowing down, while going 70 mph and another driver is right behind you. The lane tracing should be renamed trace the lane dividers, with the middle of the car.Or it will randomly decide that I am going to take an exit while driving in the right lane of a highway. It has to be shut off or you are going to be fighting to keep the car at actual center. I have brought it in multiple times now, with no resolution. The radio might as well just be a giant sticker on the dash. That is how it spends most of it's time unless you have an iPhone. If you have an android, simply do not buy this vehicle. Not only does the vehicle not have android auto, but the Radio is useless to android users unless you have a Samsung. They advertise turn by turn navigation included via scout link, forget that you are going to get a ticket, or crash, as the car will have driven you in the ditch or into the back of the person in front of you, while you are restarting your phone, the app, and the car's own radio repeatedly on 20-30 min drives. Worst vehicle I have ever owned, and will be my last Toyota (4th lifetime, 3rd in a row).

This baby’s got torque!
Love my little car, and if you find one pre-owned snap it up! The only reason I may trade mine is I’m getting more grandchildren and need space. My six speed takes hills like a champ, but really needs 3rd or 4th gear to get you there unless you’re on a highway and have some momentum. My son is over 6’ and fits comfortably with seats pushed up or back. And the rear what’s plenty of space for allllllllll my groceries. Best car I’ve ever had.
2,000+ Miles in 3 weeks
I'm a Pharmacy Delivery Driver. Every Day I spent 8 to 10 hrs of driving. I put 130+ miles every day on my 2019 Corolla Hatchback SE. Right now I have 2,000+ on my odometer. I heard about the Recalls I'll bring my Car to the dealership on its first 5,000 miles. I hope everything's good.. I heard a lot of bad things on a CVT transmission. But right now it's all Good. I average 33 mpg combined. :)
