I had my-eye-on an ION.
I was unsure about buying a Saturn. I think it was because their are a lot of them on the roads and the older ones have that real plastic look to them. I think that my 2005 Saturn Ion is pretty sharp. It is fun to drive and it handles well in the snow, which is helpful here in Wisconsin. It really is a sharp car inside and out and I would recommend the Saturn Ion to anyone. Chris
Does what it needs to
It does what we want it to with no problem. Gas mileage is good, pickup is good. Great price and safety features. I owned an old S series and was pleased with the 250k miles I put on it in it's lifetime, and have been pleased with the ION. Customer service is always excellent. The biggest selling point for this car was the three car seat tethers/anchor points in the backseat. Saturn is the only car manufacturer who puts car seat anchors in all seating positions. I can easily fit three car seats in the backseat, even rear facing, with no problem.
Fun Car
I put a lot of miles on a car in a year. I was really skeptical to buy a GM vehicle because of this. I'm not sorry that I did. Extremely easy to perform routine maintenance.
Saturn ION - A Better Small Car
Recent purchase of the 2005 ION 2 has been most satifying. The last Saturn SL2 1997 model has proved to be trouble-free in over 175,000 miles, and I hope for the same with the ION. Fit and finish are several levels higher than the venerable SL2. it has avery quiet engine, and road and other exterior noise at highway speed is minimal. Like the SL2 this car is well-designed and very roomy, and very easy to maintain for the shade tree mechanic. Interior material looks Japanese/European in character. I really like the on-center instrument cluster and the white background guages. No need to expand the trade deficit, this is one domestic runner that will go the distance.
very few problems- and they aren't big!
My ION has been great since the first day I drove off the lot 4 years ago. The gas mileage is great for my typical driving day, and the maintenance has been minimal- basic upkeep and tune-ups. This week was the first time I had any "problems". A few sensors had malfunctioned, causing the check engine light to turn on. I have had issues with it not letting me pull the key out from time to time, mentioned it to the service manager, and they have fixed it. Something was mis-aligned in the ignition housing. I am happy with my choice, and would be purchasing a new saturn if they still had the ION.
