This is, BY FAR, the best vehicle I have ever owned. They have thought of everything. Ride quality is a bit stiff but I didn't mind coming from a Tacoma. Carplay would be nice but their native software is pretty solid. Buy, you won't regret!

EV? I'm not sure... It's 100% worth the R1SK.

This was our first EV. I'm not going to lie, I was skeptical and worried going in to it. Would the range be enough. Would we get the range it says? Would charging be OK? Would I like 1-pedal driving? Would I miss the sound of an ICE? Etc. Etc. Etc. I've owned a lot of great cars (Acura, Audis, BMWs, Infiniti, Land Rovers, VW) - from sports cars to SUVs. This is by far the best. And what's even more amazing is it combines the best of all of them. Mind bending acceleration. Offroad capability. Great interior. Lots of tech. I could honestly list a thousand things I love. So it's easier to list what I don't - I wish it had a traditional sunroof instead of the fixed piece of glass (although it is beautiful) and I wish it had Apple Carplay. Outside of that, it's amazing. Wake up to a "full" tank every morning. When I have had to DC fast charge (we've put almost 6,000 miles on it in the first six weeks we've owned it) it's actually been great and will only get better as Tesla opens up their network in 2024 to other cars. One pedal driving is awesome. I honestly don't think we'll buy another ICE car.

Dangerous Car

BenjaminK, 02/18/2024
2023 Rivian R1S Adventure 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)

This SUV is by far the worst vehicle I have ever driven. when we bought the car we took these aspects into account: 1. Electric (se it will save money) 2. Less maintenance 3. Design 4. Speed and power 5. Off road capabilities We are Insanely disappointed to the verge of a law suite against Rivian for lying and cheating people out of their money for a very dangerous car. 1. Electric is great, but this car does not hold charge, it costs a lot to charge and to be honest seems to cost as much as owning a full size SUV running on gas. difference is that it has the quality of a Mazda and the price point of a Land Rover. 2. maintenance is a nightmare, nothing is cheaper or simpler, we had our car in the shop 7 times in less than 1000 miles! one of those times, the car bricked itself while updating (software drained a 85% battery overnight and left the car unresponsive, couldn't even open the doors). they came and towed it away! the acr was in the shop for: a. Noise issues from the front speaker cover (we are talking heavy noise, like, cant sit in the car noise as it was rattling like it was about to fly off), started day one mile 4, it is still not completely fixed b. trim pealing off at 600 miles, they had to replace the trim on both back doors, we are at 1200 miles and the trim is looking like its about to fly off again. c. issues with motor stuck (4 days of work gone) d. car bricked due to their own update, that happened to over 150 drivers that day, all were towed to rivians facility e. windows reporting being open after you lock the car. all windows aware full up, but hey, its a new car (that was their excuse) they couldn't explain it, its still happening. f. Car screen becomes unresponsive after a deep sleep in camping mode (no matter what button you push the screen closes that menu, basically you are stuck with a golf cart feature as no other features are working. again they couldn't recreate it and now it has behaved this way 3 times. the car had been through one small hail storm, resulting in them replacing the entire roof and entire hood (cost our insurance close to $17K and we waited 1.5 months for the car to get back), for reference our 2012 jeep that was parked next to it had 4 dents in the same hail storm (and cost $200 to fix). 3. Design is cheap, low quality assembly with insane misalignments on a lot of parts externally and internally. we had trim fly off, doors that make noise because they are not aligned to body, trunk that refused to close because of misalignment in cold weather. this car is just not there! 4. I beg you, Don't fall in to their speed and power marketing tricks, the car is governed heavily by the software and decreases the motors performance according to varying conditions (without telling you about it, just slows your car down mid highway driving), the software is buggy, and the power is just not there. it is claimed to have 835HP, am sorry, I never got to use it to that power because their software and other issues stopped us from actually using the car we paid for. they are heavily restricted to the point that the car struggled climbing a steep hill on a cold day and we had to stop on the side to let others drive around us (on a 835hp truck). its a lie, a marketing trick to get you into their cars, you will NOT be in control of this car, they control it through software but you paid over $95K for that pleasure. 5. Off road capabilities - NO I will not take the risk of driving it off road, the car is so fragile in my own parking lot (bricking, parts falling off, issues of power control and software) that i will not take that risk, we are still using our Jeep 2012 GC to go off road and its a beast for 60% less of the cost of a rivian. A lot of people asked us why are we complaining, why didnt we sell it. NO ONE WANTS THEM! there are way too many rivians for sale for dirt cheep. Rivian refused to buy it back (they have a buy back program! that tells you something about their issues). we are waiting to claim our tax break and then sell it at a loss to break even with the tax break. DONT DO IT! google Rivian issues, you will be amazed by how many people want to get their money back, by how many people Rivian bought their car back, by how many people Rivian made sure will get removed from review website like this one.

Solid Reliable Beauty

Very surprised to see how solid and reliable the R1S has been. Purchased because of its capability, styling, and range, but no rattles, upgraded sound and infotainment system, and now improved handling and comfort with the September over-the-air update. I can't tell you how many times we have been asked about this USA designed and built SUV. 10/10 after the September update.

BED CUSTOMER SERVICE

I booked my R1S vehicle in Early November and they told me my car will be delivered in 4 to 6 weeks. Since then I’ve been following up with them and every time when I spoke with the Customer Service, they gave me different answer. I am willing to compromise a lot of things with them in order to get my vehicle, but they are not willing to work with me at all, it’s so frustrating situation and all the time when I try to hold them up, they gave me different answer they don’t care about the customer or customer relationship at all. I would never recommend buying this car at all. Specially, all the customer representative lie with us and they don’t care about giving any good customer service .
