A Good Car

This is fine car. GM put together a capable auto that can carry 5 passengers comfortably. The V6 (derived from Cadillacs Northstar V8) manages every driving condition with ease. It manages to do this on 87 octane (reguar) gas while its competitors require premium gas. The car provides the same fuel efficiency as its competitors as well. No problems to report with this car at nearly 60000 miles.

Vehicle now has 91K miles and doesn't leak a drop of oil! Fun to drive and very practical. Not too small not to big. 3.8 V-6 delivers more than I need for interstate survival. Seats could be better built. Creature comforts are more than adequate. Great value for your dollar. Don't waste $ on a Honda!

Glad 2 B Rid of It

I purchased a GX with just over 35,000 miles. I've had it for a year and 33,000 miles. The transmission has had to be replaced...it uses a quart of oil every 1500 miles that GM says is not excessive...and it's losing break fluid. The car rides, drives, and accerlates wonderfully...it would be a great car if it were more reliable. I've traded it in on a 2000 Accord LX-V6 even though I had -$5000 equity. And GM wonders why they continue to lose market share?

I have owned sports cars, luxury sedans, performance vehicles, wagons, pickups, vans and economy cars, but no car I have ever owned has ever given me any more pleasure to drive. The old V6 is bulletproof, the autobahn handling package is superb. Best all around car I ever owned.

I bought this car used a couple months ago with 40,000 miles on it and it drives fairly close to a new car. I was surprised with its power, coming from an oldsmobile and I was happy to pick up the trusted 3.8L that is in many other GM cars (though I wish it had 215 hp like the 3.5L, oh well). The factory speakers were better than my aftermarket ones from my previous car! This is a safe, comfortable, and well-built ride. Thanks GM!

I bought my '99 GL with 33,000 miles a year and a half ago. It now has 62,000 miles. I replaced the original tires at 59,000, and the front brakes at 55,000. This car is fun to drive with the 3.5L, very reponsive, handles beautifully. The only problem I've had is the voltage regulator. The headlights and accessories (fan) dim/slowdown slightly and repeatedly (more noticeably during cold weather). Dealer told me it had been a problem but GM didn't consider it a recall issue. I can drive as is or pay $400 for a redesigned unit.

The "Intrigue" is the most inconspicuous car ever made, especially in dark green like mine. The car is decent and I like it quite a lot, the resale value is horrible, but I bought it used (no option for a new now, is there?) so that's okay.

My Intrigue is the best car ever. My car before this was a 1990 Honda Civic which had 188,956 miles on it.its amazing how they run alike to say their under two different companies. My inrigue has 132,000 miles on it and still rides new like it was just bought. The only problem I've had was the passenger side rear window got stuck. This was easy to get fixed. I really love my car oh yeah and don't even get me started on the Bose CD and cassette stereo system sounds better than my house stereo which is also a Bose system.

Car has been decent. Always starts. Runs smooth. Great engine and transmission. No major fixes out of warranty (almost 20,000 miles ago). Leather is a little below par, and dashboard is a little separated from one vent. I am satisified with purchase. Dealer was terrible, terrible, terrible. Stay away from Rohrman dealerships is Chicago.

I bought the car used, it was a rental. It seemed fine at the time (still some warranty left - thank goodness!). A week after purchase a rear power window quit. After a couple months of driving we noticed that on rainy cool nights the inside of the winshield would fog up horribly and the defogger would not clear it very quickly. Fearing a leaking heater core, I took it in but was told it was the control head. Still has the problem to some extent. Other than that it drives nicely and we've had no other problems.

I bought my Oldsmobile Intrigue used with 40,000 miles on it, It now has 120,000 miles, and still drives like new. The only major work that I had done on it was the replacement of the alternator at 100,000 miles. It has terrific acceleration, good handling, and good mileage for a full size car. Its problems include an engine that needs about 1.5 quarts of oil between changes (apparently according to GM this is normal for this engine), a fuel door that seldom opens by itself, and seats with little lumbar or side support.

The Oldsmobile Intrigue is a great driving car. I still like driving it. It looks like a bigger version of the Acura TL. It makes the TL look chincy to me. I am averaging 21-22 mpg. It does not burn oil. Why didn't GM promote this car? I have friends (Toyota owners) that are impressed when they are passengers and can't believe that an American (GM) car drives this well. If the new Impala SS is this good, I might buy one.

If you get a chance to own one of these cars for the right price I would go for it. I love this car and wish Olds didn't go out of business because I would buy another when this one if finished. Great power in the engine and plenty of acceleration. Get one while they last, but don't overpay because the resale value drops very fast. Mines already dropped in half and I've only had it for 11 months.

I bought this car new and have had the same problems I'd expect from buying a used vehicle with mileage. These are testing my "GM Loyalty". A bad factory windshield replaced 2 days after purchase. Warped rotors were replaced at 19K. The engine smelled of gas at 31K which required replacement of the fuel injector regulator ($400). Eagle LS tires were trashed at 27K. The AM/FM TAPE/CD fader button is broken. The driver'side door sticks. You might think I wouldn't recommend this car. However, since it's lost 2/3 of its purchase price in 4 years I'd say it'd be a good used car value.

I've owned cars for 55 years and none has given me more all around pleasure than this car. On twisty two-lanes or the interstate it has been great. It handles much the same as my '66 Vette coupe, without the 350 hp of course, and the V6 3.8 liter engine is strong, smooth and bulletproof. Maybe the 3.5 could be better, but I don't care.

Bought this car used with only 7,400 miles on it. I now have 86,000 miles on it and it still runs great. ust follow the maintenance schedule and you'll be fine. I've had to replace the battery twice. But no other issues or extra costs. Changed the oil between 3K and when the change oil light came on. I have to make sure I check the oil levels regularly since it uses about a quart in between every oil change. Comfortable, powerful, and good stock speaker system. Handles smooth and predictable.

Well, this is the fifth year I've been driving this car and I've put 60,000mi on the V6-3800. I've bought it used with 32,000mi and I've had one major problem with the steering column when I first bought it (under warranty replacement) Since then only regular maintenance, I've changed the battery, 3 changes of brakes, one ventilation motor(squeaking), bought one set of winter tires and I'm still running on the same Goodyear LS that came new with it. I'm 33yr, 6'4"-200pd and this was one of the few cars that I was comfortable in for my budget. I don't regret it at all. This is my 2nd 3800 and they are reliable/strong motors but they do drink oil. Good fuel economy if you know how to drive it

Bought slightly used from a GM dealer for thousands less than a similar age and equipped Accord or Camry, and what a huge improvement of features over either of those cars. This car has been a great choice. Only minor repairs (radio button) and scheduled maintenance. This is a great value for all you get: Auto dual zone heater, Auto Headlamps, Radio Antenna in rear window. All the great options. Mine is a GLS, top of the line, so may have options others don’t, but I love the ride and the power. Also gets over 30mpg on the highway on a long flat trip with cruise set at 75.

At 14,595 mi a small oil leak;engine rear main seal replaced. At 29,784 mi replaced frt door top moldings; new design added a screw to keep them from sliding backward which made them rub on front of rear door. Twice dealer has added a/c fluid which helped temporarily but still does not cool car as well as it should. Not easy to keep in a straight ahead line; maybe it needs alignment but I have not had it checked. Front seat backs do not support my mid-back area (I'm 6'0"). Performance excellent. Avg 25.5 mpg..ranges 19 to 28.5. Overall "okay" but not as trouble-free as our Camry's nor as easy to steer. Warranty covered what has been done so far.

We bought this car with alot of enthusiasm. It was refreshing to find a GM that exceeded all others in its class. The overall performance of this vehicle really shined when we compared it to other competitors (Accord, Camry, etc). The car has never given us any mechanical problems, and it has aged very well. The interior looks as new as the day we bought it, and the exterior paint looks perfect. We have had to replace a power window motor, but it was taken care of thru our warranty and has never given us any more problems. The car has been fun to own and fun to drive. I would definitely refer this car to a friend.

I bought the 1999 Intrigue with 98,000 original miles on it two years ago. I am the third owner. The car is amazingly reliable. The 3.8l V-6 is super FAST! I just love it and I love how no one know what make of vehicle it is. I am very very happy with this car and it is very fun to drive. I just love it! I did have to make some repairs. I replaced two of the window regulators and the AC blower. Other then that it is incredibly reliable and loves to be driven hard. Love love love it!

Discontinued Parts!! Its is a car that was made from 1998-2002 thats 4 years. If internal parts need replaced, its gonna cost a lot and you need 2 of almost everything e.g. : Timing chain guide's. You wont be able to get those from the Dealership as they are discontinued parts. Thats not a bad thing, it just means there isnt a great demand for those parts so they stopped manufacturing them for the Dealership. Keep in Mind in those rare instances that you do need to replace them, you'll only find them in a kit, you'll need 2 kits ( 1 for each side of the 3.5 L. DOHC V6) Once its fixed I'm sure it will be a great car.

I bought this car about 5 years ago with 82,000 miles on it and I am still in love with it. I have only had one problem which was the drivers window motor and track broke. Probably because I eat so much fast food and use it way more that average. It is very spacious and comfortable except on long road trips the seats become bricks. It now has 142,000 miles on it and I have had to replace some of the suspension because of normal wear and tear. The engine and transmission have been perfect despite claims at the dealership that the tranny has a bad reputation just to sell me a warranty which I refused. It picks up speed very quickly and has 215 HP whith 3.5L which is much better than the 3.8L!

I have owned my 99 Intrigue for 2 years and it only has 78,000 miles on it and it drives like new. I realize it is going to be 10 years old next year but it drives so well and its looks stood the test of time. I have the 3.5 liter engine and it cooks on the highway. I think GM made a mistake buy getting rid of Oldsmobile instead of Buick. How many ten year old Buicks do you see on the road compared to Alero's and Intrigues. Great vehicle!

I have owned my iIntrigue since 2001. In 2003 had to have the motor replaced due to some annomoly that was known by GM about the balancer rod in the block. 2008 had to replace the engine again. 2 months after replacing engine, had to replace the transmission. Have had to replace every power window unit in the car and getting ready to replace another one. In cold weather the power fluctuates up and down causing the lights to dim. Heater fan does not work correctly. Power steering has failed, and that is no fun to replace. Two oxygen sensors. This car is the reason that foreign cars are selling so well in America.

I purchased a 1997 Olds Intrigue GL Basic with no bells and whistles back in 1999. It had been a former rental car with 23K miles, so it had been "well loved". I put over 120K on it myself. 3 years later I found another 1999 Intrigue GLS with low mileage, Leather interior, Bose Stereo, Power seats. I have put over 100K on this car. I had to replace the engine at and rebuild the transmission at 120K. It was worth the cost, the car is so nice to drive and it really moves! GM really messed up discontinueing this line.

I purchased my Intrigue in April of 2007 and it was the biggest mistake for me. Yes i was impressed because it had a different engine & a rebuilt tranny, but 8mths later the axle shaft broke inside the tranny and had to repair that for 2500k. Not long after i had to repair the alternator, the computer system, rack & pinion & bushels, crank shaft sensor, radiator, fuel filter. The head light wiring had a short, so i had to replace that every six months. I also had to replace the ignition switch and a year later the same problem. It would not start for 15 minutes then it would. Finally it needed $2500 of repair. Tie rods, hubs, motor mount. After $5,000 into the car already i said no way.

The good: I love this car when it works. I love the styling, the low, aggressive stance and the powerful engine. The bad: I was lured by the strength of the engine. Hovever, this car has been more problematic I would ever have guessed. It hasn't gone a 6- month period without a major repair. It has been in the shop for 16 days and I have spent $3200 on maintenance alone in the last 20 months. Many parts are unique to the Intrigue and quite expensive when they break. Judging from what others review, you can have the best car in the world or a real lemon. Either way, your resale value will be rock bottom. I won't risk it ever again.

I purchased this vehicle as a replacement for my Olds Cutlass Supreme convertible which I would've kept except for its poor reliability. I was very surprised how well this Cutlass replacement performed, how comfortable it is, by the superb Bose sound system, excellent gas mileage, and ton of room. I have had only one annoying problem, it's tendency to not start on rare occasions (security light was blinking) but it did start after about 15 minutes. If anyone knows what may cause this please email me, thanks.

GOOD: Excellent ride and handling; out performs the competition (3.8L V6); sleek and luxurious exterior styling; reliability- the car has only been in the shop to replace the ignition. BAD: Fuel economy (haven't broken 18 MPG since I've owned it); ergonomics, I have to reach to fiddle with the HVAC and radio (I'm 6'2"); Build quality isn't up to the standards of the Asian brands, weatherstripping on below the driver window is peeling, trim on the top of the front pass. Door won't stay in place; my car has a slight vibration at high speeds (may just need to be balanced) and when braking (probably needs new pads). But overall, an excellent car.

This is a stylish car that is fun to drive, but it's not reliable. First, all four of the power windows quit working. Then the regulator broke in ALL four windows so the windows would not stay up. Now the A/C is on the fritz and it has had numerous electrical problems that are extremely expensive to fix. The cruise control no longer works and the driver's side sun visor broke so it no longer stays up.

The plastic trim under the doors holds water and the frame rusts. I probably knocked off ten pounds of rust this past week. I get about 15 mpg in the city and 19 maybe 20 mpg on highway. The crankshaft sensor went out after a month or two after I bought it. Friends who have the same car tell me they have to replace theirs about once a year. They cost around $60 so its not an expensive fix but it adds up year after year. The car just wasn't designed very well. Especially for rust. I can't even jack my car up to change a tire because the frame will bend and crack from all the rust. Do not buy. Spend a little more on a better car. Like a Honda. This car is a waste of money
