Great truck with surprising features
Had a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and couldnt wait to trade it for something else. The frontier has better acceleration, the transmission works tons better and the ride is much more comfortable than the Toyota. The cab is a little bit smaller but negligible. I bought the midnight edition crew cab which comes with a spray in bedliner, bed extender, rear sonar, heated seats, dual zone climate control and a lot of other goodies. The price for his versus a similarly equipped Tacoma was at least 7000 less. You cant go wrong with this Frontier.

Love This Truck
This truck is not very well reviewed by the major reviewing sources in my humble opinion because it is not as fancy as some of the others out there. However, when you look at most customer reviews they are all pretty positive and so is mine. This truck is by far the best value in it's class. Does it have all the bells and whistles that competitors similar models have? Not necessarily. However, what it does have is a great engine and tranny, a comfortable interior, all the technology I wanted/needed on the inside, and looks absolutely great. It is truly a pleasure to drive this truck. The only real downside I can think of is it's a little rough sometimes on quick accelerations from a stop and the crew cab back seat area is a tad bit cramped and the mpg (but that is the same with most V6 4WD models).

Tested a Colorado then went straight to Nissan!
After 13 years and 331,523 miles I decided it was finally time to replace my 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. Honestly, if they still made Dakotas I would have bought another one in a heartbeat. But they don't so.... Based upon price alone and reports of troublesome transmission/engine issues I immediately eliminated the Toyota Tacoma from consideration. I have always thought the Frontiers look very nice, even if the design is a bit stale and in need of an update. I also have driven several Frontiers as rentals while traveling for work. However, I really thought the new Colorado looked very sharp and wanted to start there. Unfortunately, I got stuck with a new salesperson who knew less about the truck than I did. On a short test drive I eliminated the Colorado quickly due to the complete lack of response or any spirit in the V6 engine (similar to most Chevys nowadays). We ran right down the street to the Nissan dealership where we purchased my wife's Rogue a year earlier and started driving and looking at Frontiers. It didn't take long to start talking $$. We utilized TrueCar and the dealership matched the price of $25,770 before trade & down payment. The truck I purchased was an Crew Cab SV V6 w/ Value Package and Powered Moonroof. So far, the engine is great, very responsive, and the transmission is smooth. The spray-in bedliner, bed extender, and track & rail system really add to the functionality (I immediately added a TonnoPro vinyl over aluminum folding bed cover). For normal commute I average 18 - 19 mpg and on a Labor Day trip to Gatlinburg got over 22 mpg with the whole family of 4 in the truck and A/C running the whole time. No complaints about the mileage; I will happily trade a couple miles per gallon for a good engine & transmission. All of the comments about the dash, etc... being dated and plastic are true, but I knew that going in. Only negative comments I have is that the steering while true necessitates constant attention (don't let your had off the wheel) and I do not like the auto-dimming rear view mirror (I finally figured out how to turn it off). If I had to do it over again, I would definitely still go with the Frontier but might give more consideration to the Desert Runner package. I rejected it out of the gate simply because I didn't like the gaudy sticker, but now when I see them I really like the wheels they have on them, and the upholstery is nicer than the SV too. The Frontier gets lower marks than the competition in several professional reviews due to having lower towing capacity, but we are talking about just a couple of hundred pounds. The Frontier is still rated for a very respectable 6700 lbs towing and 1500 payload! Do you really need more than that in a MIDSIZE truck?!?! By comparison, my 2005 Dakota had a Magnum V8 and was only rated to tow 4600 pounds, but even that was always enough.

Second Frontier
This is my second Frontier Crew Cab. My first one, LE 4x4, was 10yrs old and I loved it. 64,000 miles in fabulous condition, until someone ran a red light and hit me head on. Insurance company gave me $17,000 for it, all true. So I knew I wanted another Frontier. Even though the mileage still stinks, it's what I wanted. Nissan fixed the turning radius problem of my 2008. The sunroof is nice and the dual climate control helps. I don't understand why there's no push-to-start yet. Ugh. I'm not a fan of leather seats, but i'll give it a whirl. If Nissan comes out with the European model in the US soon, I already have a buyer for this Frontier.

2018 SV V6 Midnight Edition
I decided to move to a midsize pickup so that I could put it in the garage with my wife's large SUV (Tahoe). I compared the Frontier, Tacoma, and Colorado and decided on the Frontier. I love the look of the Midnight Edition. I went with the granite exterior and the black lettering and wheels are really sharp. Plenty of room in the front for me and adequate room in the back for passengers. I really like the track system in the bed with the movable cleats to secure cargo. The 4.0 liter V6 provides plenty of power and torque. I would like better mileage, but it is really not much less than the competition. I also like that the engine and transmission have been around for a while and have had relatively few problems. This promises to be a reliable truck. It would be nice to have a better sound system and more interaction with mobile devices, but that is definitely not a deal breaker for me. Oh, and I was able to get this truck new for less than $26k and at 0.9% financing. Tacoma and Colorado could not touch the price and did not look nearly as nice. I would definitely recommend this vehicle.

Had the vehicle for 6 months really pleased.
I have been a Frontier owner since 2001. Compared to other mid sized pickups, I find the Frontier fits me better than others. This 2018 is as comfortable as my 2002 but appears to have more leg room for the rear passengers. I like the way it drives but I have noticed the 2018 does not have the turning radius which the 2002 did. This Frontier is easy for me to get in and out of and sits nice while driving. I've had the 2018 for six months and so far I am totally happy with it.

Everything you need, nothing you don't!
If you're looking at this truck and reading these reviews, then you probably already know what the deal is. It's spartan, utilitarian, basic, and best of all, a great value. When looking at used trucks I was comparing the usual candidates, and for the price of a used 2013 Tacoma with 90k miles I was able to by my certified preowned 2018 Pro4x with less than 16k miles. I didn't even bother looking at the new Tacoma due to the transmission issues that seem to be plaguing the new generation. The 2nd gen Tacoma and 2nd gen Frontier are very comparable trucks with very similar capabilities, but for the price, I couldn't justify paying for a truck with just a hair more ground clearance, 30 less horsepower, and way more miles. Truck does great in the city, cruises 85 on the freeway with ease, has torque for days, and looks very handsome. The only cons are the "dated" interior, which is only an issue if you like the super edgy hightech crap they put in new cars. It isn't terrible, just simple and easy to use. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like some of the new trucks, but that's ok, this is a real truck for people who are going to use it accordingly, besides, that's less stuff to go wrong! Long story short, if you're looking for a great value and great do it all truck that won't break the bank and is proven reliable, then don't hesitate!

Hands down a better value than Tacoma
Spent $3K less on a 4WD than a 2WD Tacoma was going to run me and i've own three 4WD toyotas over the years (a 22R, 3.0l, and a 4.7l Tundra). No transmission issues at all as compared to the new Tacoma. My test-drive of the tacoma verified what i read here on Edumunds regarding the "hunt" for the proper gear. First long-haul mileage was 23.6, acceptable. The radio button could be larger for convenience. IMO, the frontier is a much better value than the tacoma.

2018 Nissan Frontier "First Nissan truck"
I purchased my 2018 Nissan Frontier SV in September 2018. I have always driven Chevrolet until this point. After I looked at prices I realized I could buy a new Frontier for what the used Silverado's cost. I didn't need the full size so I thought I would give the Frontier a drive. I was pleasantly surprised at the space inside the mid-size truck. Storage was abundant in the top and bottom glove compartments and the center console. Also, with the convenience truck package (wouldn't buy one without) there is storage beneath the rear seats which is great for straps, jumper cables and small tools. The heated seats work well (convenience package) and the truck rides more like a car than a truck. To me the truck performs great ride, drive, in-town, off-road. I read a lot of negative reviews about the Frontier being "outdated" and the interior being "hard plastic". This was great for me. If the truck is dirty or dusty just wipe it down with an armor-all wipe. Also, not as many electronic buttons to distract to mess up. To me, the 2018 Frontier SV 4x4 is a great value and strong truck.

Second frontier/ Excellent value/ Reliable
I owned two Ford rangers in a row and needed to replace my current one. Ford stopped making them so I looked around at all the small / midsize trucks. Found a used 2010 Nissan Frontier four door 4X4 in 2012 with 30,000 on it. Over the next 5 years I added 160,000 trouble free miles. When I saw the midnight editions online I knew I had to check them out. I discovered the 2018 had the same 4.0 liter engine and 5 speed transmission that I loved in my 2010. For the money, nothing comes close to this truck, not even remotely in the same zip code. Unbelievably versatile truck. I have driven through snow storms that had most vehicles off the road, with complete confidence. Massively underrated truck.

GOOD VALUE
This truck can be had for less cost than others in its class without any sacrifice in quality or performance. It is a tight vehicle which dos not have any shakes, rattles, or vibrations. Engine and transmission performance are top notch. Driver seat comfort is excellent. Dual sided climate control and heated seats are recommended options. Rear end sonar combined with the back up camera is great for safety. The towing package with stabilizer is a desirable option even if you are not towing as it helps with road holding.

A good truck for the money
The Nissan Frontier king cab is a mid size truck which will appeal to people with small or no children as the rear seats in the are very small. The truck is far easier to park and maneuver than large trucks although the turning radius could be better. The engine is strong and the instrumentation is well laid out and simple. The sound system is fair even with the 6 speakers offered in the value pack. The truck accelerates well and steering is good. The ride is "truckish" and bumps will be felt. Some wind and tire noise can be heard. In order to get the nicer amenities one will have to get the crew cab or an upgraded model such as the Pro 4x. Even with its drawbacks the Frontier is still a nice truck. Nissan kept the cost down by using less costly materials and using the same basic style for many years. The Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma and Ridgeline are more modern and offer more luxury items but you will pay for them. The Frontier is a sturdy basic truck that will get the job done at a reasonable price.

I was going to buy a tacoma. The cost was 3k more than the frontier. The tacoma had a 2.7 4cyl. Frontier 4.0 6cyl. Frontiers back seat was roomier, and the front seats were more comfortable. The tacoma's exterior was boring. Steaight paint nothing else, plus cheap looking wheels. The frontier had chrome an extended bed and a bed tracking system-nice. Couldn't be happier. I know that tacoma's have been great, but they are asking too much for a basic 4cyl.

Fantastic Truck
I came from owning Chevy and Ford but after test driving the TRD Offroad, Colorado ZR2 and looking into the new Ford Ranger. I had hopes for the Ranger but I didn't want to buy a first model year Ranger. The ZR2 wasnt my taste with the blind spots and the hoodscope was a big one and it's non functional. The Toyota Tacoma was the same but worse with the lower seat position. I didn't think they were worth the price either. So, I checked out a Frontier Pro-4x and I love it. Plenty of room, my arm doesn't feel overstretched on the doorsill when driving. The dash isn't big but a lot of usable space for when mounting my radio and my CB radio offroading. The under seat storage for the back seat is great for my air compressor when needing to air up, first aid kit, 8Ton bottle jack, foldable shovel and when you fold down the seats I keep 2 peices off wood 18 inches long to put under the tires if I'm stuck. Haven't got stuck yet. This locking differential on the Dana 44 rear axle is fantastic. Not a fan of scissor jacks and the truck comes with one. Removing the spare tire can be a pain, when the chain gets hung up, you have to pull on it a little bit to help it go thru the hole. Put some WD-40 on it to help with that. Backup sensors work great and the backup camera is nice quality. Navigation and screen is very responsive with no lagging or studdering when using it. The hankook A/T tires I personally think are garbage as they just spin in the rain with little to no traction.

Pro 4x Meets Needs
Depends on what you value in a truck. If you want the latest gee whiz features that will be obsolete in couple of years buy a different brand. If you want proven technology that’s been around a while and likely to be around ten years from now then this is the way to go. The slide lock tie downs are great, the rear seats are perfectly adequate for short trips (or long with small bodies) and the Bluetooth and USB port work well. Since I use my iPhone for navigation I’m not that concerned with the Nissan system - so I can’t say how good or accurate it is. I’ve driven other light trucks and HATED the way they always seemed to shift to a higher gear as early as possible - Mine holds the gear until a reasonable shift point. Road manners are excellent as is the ride quality, no following pavement grooves or harshness over small bumps or divots. Off road seems perfectly adequate on graded unpacked roads, not a serious rock crawler but then neither am I. Overall quality of finish appears excellent. Compared to other overpriced similar vehicles (you know who I’m referring to) the Pro 4x is an excellent value and choice. Now I’ve owned it for six months I like it even better. Overall gas mileage is around 18 MPG around town - not really any long highway trips to see if it gets better

what i want for what i am willing to pay
I picked up a 2015 sv crew cab 4.0 auto about 3 months ago with 46k for $16.8k. I bought the truck from a kia dealership as is and have had bad experiences buying as is trucks so I added a 3 yr 36k for close to 2 grand. After the dealer got there cut i ended up paying around 21. Minus 2 k in cash i financed around 19 for a truck with proven reliability and dependability and under 50 k. I researched the vehicle online and the only consistent problem I found was the 4.0 likes to jump time around 100k. I feel like knowing this and addressing it around 90 k it should be fine, I am not worried. The price of new trucks now a days is stupid. I refuse to pay over 25k for something i am going to beat on sometimes. It has the comforts i need bluetooth, cruise control, room for my kids car seats and a small bed for random stuff with adjustable tie downs. My sister, my son(5) and myself all took a 9 hour trip to eljay, georgia north of atlanta and it rode great. If I want great gas mileage in a vehicle I will not buy a truck. I do a lot of interstate driving about 375 mi a week and this truck is great. I was driving a leased kia soul ( my wife's previous car it is a long story it is what made the most financial sense don't judge) the ride is about the same to me. It is pretty early on right now so anything could happen. But after talking with 3 or 4 frontier owners before purchasing this I am confident with proper maintanence that it will last me another 200k

2018 Pro4x 1rst Year Ownership
Dont bother reading the big auto reviews, stick to tried and true user breakdowns. I bought this truck for everyday commuting, camping, hunting and fishing. It's perfect size for back overgrown trails, parking at the mall and bustling down snowy highways. It's a solid rig and feels tough. Only oil changes and threw new set of AT51's in first year. If your complaining about mileage go by a Ridgeline and prepare to cough up an extra 10 to 12 grand. Test drove Tacoma OffRoad/Sport and a couple Colorado's and though they were nice no wheres worth the cost difference to get what Pro4x comes stock. If I had to do it again I wouldnt hesitate to make same choice.

2nd time Frontier Owner
Value, Value, Value! Comparably equipped competitors are $7K-$10K more. Why? The Tacoma has engine/transmission problems and a lousy ride. The GMC/Chevy is sluggish and small windows and high bed sides making it a not ideal work truck. The Frontier is a great basic work truck. My last one lasted for 200K miles/11 years with virtually no major repairs, just tires, brakes, oil. What more can you ask? I purchased both trucks used (1 year old each) making the purchase price of each $10K less than new. The 2018 SV CrewCab rides like a car, performs like a truck and is still good looking even though the style is 10+ years old.

2018 Frontier SV 4.0 6 cyl
It is a truck, so expect to find a work tool with wheels. If you want a luxury and comfort truck to carry your family get a Cadillac and pay doble the cost Or buy a mini van or RV. This is a very durable Japanese, reliable engine and transmission. Your money well invested over the other brands of V6 truck categories. The crew cab is spacious enough to seat 2 in the front and 3 in the back. But as I mentioned before is not comfortable for long road family trips . This truck cost less than it competitors. I love this truck just for daily family commute to work or school.

Looked at all the midsize trucks. 2018 Frontier midnight sv is a great truck. Wanted a truck I could easily park. Paid $31k which includes an extended warranty to 7 yr 100 miles. Plenty of room for me and two boys. Able to put all their sports gear in the bed.

Great universal truck!
I'm hitting 15k now and have towed cars, hauled HEAVY loads, and out on the trails! Strong 4x4. The low ratings are kinda crap. The lower mileage is a given for the engine needs because its a strong capable engine. There are upgrades available for better mileage if you want. Great in the snow. I cant say enough about this Mid Size truck with big truck capabilities!

2018 Desert Runner
Wow an I surprised by this truck. First of all, I initially started looking at Tacomas since everyone raves about them. However, those trucks are way overpriced for what you get and I think Toyota is just living off past history. If you search, you'll find Tacomas have way more issues than these Frontiers. What I loved about this truck was the simplicity, yet more than capable truck. Sure, the infoentertainment is outdated, but it gives me what I need. Hands-free Bluetooth and that's more than enough. I came from a car that had Apple play and everything was managed through a screen and there is a point where there is too much technology in a car. I'm not an old person either. I'm a 34 year old that works in the IT field. Anyways, this truck will give you everything a truck should and then some. I'd say only downside is gas mileage. It probably has the mpg as a newer f150. If you're looking for a mid-size truck. Frontier is a great affordable option. Don't get fooled by Tacomas reputation or colorados pretty looks. This is a great truck.

Looks Good But Has Some Technology Issues
I have a 2018 black midnight edition and the truck has been reliable on city streets and in the mountains. But it does have some strange flaws: - When driving from Texas to Colorado, the check engine light always comes on about halfway there. At first, I thought this was happening b/c of the altitude or the cold air b/c it would also always turn off about half way home. In the end though, I have determined that it goes on b/c not all gas stations in the US offer 87. Sometimes you have to get 86, and that seems to make the engine a little nervous. I also think that speeds plays some role in tripping the gauge warning lights b/c it's most common to turn on when I'm doing 80 mph for sustained periods of time. - I have noticed some transmission-related issues. I'll be at a stop sign waiting for traffic to pass. Once it does, I step on the gas, but the truck doesn't move. After a few seconds of accelerating, it finally jerks and goes. Definitely not a good sign. - While the vehicle comes with Bluetooth, it doesn't always engage, and the only way to get it to engage is to turn the truck off completely and restart the ignition. This has been particularly annoying when I get a call several minutes into a trip but am not in a good position to stop and restart the car. (UPDATE: This issue has been a lot better since I updated from an iphone 6S Plus to iPhone 13 Pro). - Steering wheel has some quick access buttons to skip songs, turn up volume, set cruise control, and accelerate/decelerate. But it would be nice to have a play button on the steering wheel, too. - The storage compartment under the back seats aren't very useful b/c the plastic mold under it is very undulated and obtrusive. It would be nice if it was designed to fit a suitcase under there. - There's just no excuse for not including a factory installed roof rack. No excuse at all. - When the car was on the lot, I assumed it had auto lights b/c the sensor was in plain site on the dashboard. Turns out that the auto light functionality requires a different blinker handle set up (on left side of steering wheel), and that's kind of pricey. In this day and age, safety equipment like that should be standard, especially if Nissan wants to stand out amongst the heavy hitters in the truck industry. - My vehicle came with Hankook tires standard, but I had to switch to another brand b/c lately the steel banding inside the tires have come apart, causing the tires to concave in the middle, which results in a very bumpy ride and putting the driver in a serious blowout situation. - The USB port does not generate enough power to restart a dead phone. You actually have to charge it with the cigarette lighter port or it won’t ever turn on. This is an absurd missed flaw.

Big little truck!
I've had Full sized Ford and Dodge crew cabs before so I know what to expect from a truck. The SV 4x4 Nissan does everything I need to and its easier to maneuver around. only thing is sits lower and bed box smaller. But I'm not hauling as much so not an issue for me. I'm comfortable driving and still feel like I'm in a truck and it has some power when you need it!

Lov My Frontier
My 2018 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 is the great .I've had Chevy Colorado, Chevy Silverado and a Ford Ranger. I much prefer my Nissan. It may not be the fanciest truck out there, but it does the job that I want . Plus I've had no recalls on it. I got it used with 5600 miles on it. Its the long bed . The only con that I have is that the turning radius is the only problem and I love the fact that it doesn't have the start/stop button.( I've had friends with this type of vehicle that have forgotten to shut their cars down and have found them still running in their garages) I prefer a truck that turns on with the key and shuts off when you remove the key.

HUB assembly are poorly made!!
This is a good little truck to get u from point A to point B ..The crew cab has little leg room for adults..I owned this truck since November 2018..This truck mpg is relatively good at 20mpg mostly..The back of the bed is pretty small for a truck unless u don't have alot to haul..The truck tows good but your mpg will drastically drop in performance..The complaint I have about it is the Hub assemblies!! I'm having to replace both front hub assemblies that are around 265.00 a piece at Autozone moog with 3yr warranty!! If you buy one at Rock auto you will pay around 140.00 a piece for a timken with 1yr warranty!! NAPA does not even carry them yet because the truck so new!! I did not get the bumper to bumper warranty because it was a ridiculous price..Nissan does not cover this either..I'm not paying 1,000 dollars for them to do it either..Anyways, besides that at 40,000 miles..this truck has get up and go..It is very economical and has backup camera USB ports bluetooth everything a new truck should have..The traction on this truck in woods in 2wd is not good though and will get stuck pretty easy. ALL IN all it's ok..It is about like driving a car with a short bed on it!! IF u wanting a truck for work, hunting, and fishing and hauling things..I would not recommend it..if u just need something to travel and to go back and forth to work..I do recommend it..If you pretty hefty person like myself you will not be comfortable on long rides!! OVERALL this truck needs a few upgrades, more cabin room better Hub assemblies for sure, bigger more comfortable seats and a standard swb bed!! As far as controls all that's good I have a silverado with a tire pressure monitoring system and i hate it..the batteries die every 5 to 10 yrs and have to be replaced or look at a low pressure light the whole time..Anyways that's whole another story!!

DEBATABLE VALUE
1. Extremly skittish on rd. Do not takes eyes off the road 1 second or will wander. Crazy idiot light (secure light) flashes on dash every few seconds with ignition off, key removed or not, doors unlocked or locked, windows up or down. What does the (secure light) signify? Nobody knows. If lock pu in the garage, pu doors automatically lock after a period of time so can not leave keys in ignition. Can barely hear alarm buzzer when head lights left on , key in ignition wih door open. Dealer says non fixable. Mickey mouse design.

Great midsize truck!!
I just purchased a 2018 Nissan Frontier SV after checking out midsize trucks for about a year. I honestly can say that I made the best decision. I love the truck. I have the v6 and its only drawback is fuel economy other than that for the money and features you can't go wrong!
Powerful Small Pickup
Reliable work truck. It was no frills with a very powerful motor for it's size. I could tow anything I wanted and it was a very reliable runner. The bed is small as is the back seat. It definitely rode like a truck, but overall I was very pleased with this vehicle. My only complaint was the gas mileage which was around 15 in the city and 18 on the highway.

LOVE IT MY SECOND ONE!!
I have your basic nissian pickup frontier. Only has a backup camera. I bought it used with 10,000 miles on it. Goes thru snow like butter, comfortable and great for hauling stuff. Also picking up used furniture. Never had a problem other than new tires, brakes it is driven everywhere. My last one went to 120,000 miles and hubby had to bondo the rust at that time. Gave it to my son and he still has it running good at 135000 miles. I’m thinking of buying a new one just for a different color.
