Almost a good truck
Its been reliable & very utilitarian. The bed extender works well. Front seat comfort is good, back seat is OK. The handling is numb and the fuel economy is poor but its a four wheel drive truck. What is a problem is the paint and the carpets. The Aluminum colored bumper paint is falling off on the edges and on the roof rack. These are areas where its had little contact with anything. Also the carpet is discoloring. The trucks not been abused. I'm going to take it to Nissan and see what they say but I don't have high hopes. On my previous Nissan truck there were similar problems and they walked away from them. I swore I wouldn't buy another but I did.
2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab
This truck not only looks "hot", it is! I love the front end design, and receive compliments on its look wherever I go, mostly from men. Old and young, they love the look of my Frontier Crew Cab pickup, black in color. The chrome looks especially good. While not a large pickup, it is perfect for smaller loads, such as gardening tools and plants, furniture, and even groceries are handy with the extender folded inside neatly!

This truck is more like an suv with a truck bed however the four door back seat is very small no normal size adult can fit. The standard v6 is weak even up hill the look and the interior are the reson i bought this truck and the fact it has had no problems, but it just a little to slow and wussy in the long run it will still be a good running truck when i trade it in.
Great Compact Truck
I've owned my 2001 Nissan Frontier for a little over a couple months now, and have had no problems. It drives great, but could use a little more power out of the 4-cyl. motor. Its styling is impeccable, interior and exterior. I get great gas milage, about 25+ hwy, and 20 city. It's very reliable, and always runs well. It had everything I was looking for in a compact truck.
great truck
I bought my truck used 10/05. I love this truck and plan on buying another one like it whent the time comes. It has good power, great looks, and is very reliable. The only drawback is the gas mileage, I get about 18 miles a gallon.
Stylish, economical pickup
Initially bought the truck because I liked the styling & it received excellent reviews from auto critics. Have not had one complaint or any trouble in 13K of driving.
Tough
I've been hit hard twice (both times my vehicle was stopped) and the other vehicles had much damage and only very little surface scratches to mine.
The little truck that can
I bought the truck for cheap transportation. I needed something with 25 mpg at 75mph for my 70 mile to work round trip, plus be able to tow my boat anywhere. Best experience was full bed load, while towing moving trailer with wife and mother in law to Georgia, no problems had to leave it in 4th gear on expressway.
The best truck I've ever owned
Ive had a 93 and 98 Ford Ranger. but I have to say ever since I got my 01 frontier crew cab. I have been very-very impressed, with everthing but the gas mileage, but the trucks style, comfort and handling make up for it. I havnt had ant problems with the truck it now has 32k and running like it did when I first drove. GOOD JOB NISSAN. Ford needs to payt more attention.
Reliable with Nagging little problems
For driving everyday this pickup has been reliable. More than once the high pressure hose for the AC has had a slow leak. Over the last 17 years I have averaged only $782.34 per year on maintenance and repairs.
My favorite TRUCK
I bought this truck over three years ago as gas prices started to increase (dumped my Sequoia). My Frontier Crewcab SE has 194,000 miles on it and runs great! Gas mileage is not awesome but it is a truck. The quality of the leather interior has held up great, as has the silver paint (which is a color that usually fades more than others). I will buy another Frontier as my next truck when and if this one ever dies. I have owned a Ford F250 in the past...gas hog and built like a typical American car. Big, bulky and not well built for any amount of time.
Japanese Gas Hog!!!
Bought ours new. Have appox. 57,000 miles now. Not to happy with no way to be comfortable resting arms.I was out of state when wife bought it after finding Ford escape testing to be pathetic. Dealership took advantage og a female and charged her a 10% apr!! And that's with a fico score of 810!
do it again
2001 190000 miles __ 0000000000rust great truck bad gas milage wish i could buy 2001 now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON"T BUY!!!!
A/C breaks down every 5-6 months. No power in the 4 cycl. eng. Service at dealerships No Help!
dud
This vehicle appears to be sold for its looks; as a truck, it is next to worthless, especially given the that is equipped with a fake spare tire.
01 Nissan Frontier
Loved this truck from the day I first saw it! I drove a Toyota to compare, but there really was no comparison. The Nissan handled and rode considerably better and feels better made. The Toyota had a more performance-oriented engine, but the Nissan is more of a workhorse. My truck has almost every feature available for the XE (including V6), and it was thousands cheaper than a comparable Tacoma.
1st year - Love that truck!!!!!
I have had a great time with this truck. It handles well, and has power when you need it. Great truck! Great look! Highly recomend.
Good overall except!!!
The only problem I have run into is the suspension being ponderous. Still working with Nissan to figure out if this a one vehicle problem or are all crew cabs experiencing this problem.
2 Dr SE Desert Runner XCab
Good overall truck for the money. Mechanically superb. Styling is unique.
Its good but....it could be better
I've had no problems thus far with this vehicle. My only problem and maybe I'm being picky is the gas mileage and the speed limiter. The truck shuts down when you hit about 100mph. And yes I do have a heavy foot.
Great Lil' Truck
Has been a great little work horse. Have hauled "lots of materials in it. Really fun to drive! Get a lot of comments about its looks!
My First New Car
I found the truck to be priced well for my dollar. Did have a few problems, one with the rubber piece between the fenders and plastic trim (came loose), the other was a bad seal on my steering box (Nissan replaced, was under warranty). Lacks power but is a 4 cyl. I feel the fuel economy is not reasonable, but is better then the competition.
Rear ABS problems
Nice truck, but had rear ABS problems from the beginning. Dealer no help, told me ABS was fine. It did work in the beginning but after 3 or 4 K miles it did not work, snow or rain and the rear brakes did not work. It even failed the two year inspection and the dealer charged 50 bucks to adjust the rear brakes !
well it is a truck
Have not had any problems so far,This is a truck,so it drives like a truck and gets gas milage like a truck.I would buy another one.
Looks great, good interior, but problems
My fuel system was replaced after repeatedly overflowing (see other owner comments), my ABS light goes on and off but a problem cannot be determined b/c it never is "on" at the dealership (so much for computer memory), and my automatic window needed repair. I was one step away from successfully completing a Lemon Law case against Nissan (3 visits to the dealer without a resolution) - they finally brought in a fuel system expert from CA to fix the problem. The gas mileage still stinks!
My Cab
Have had one problem with driver seat sticking and will not move forward or backward. I am 6'4" and need the leg room
Great Truck!!!
When I purchased this truck, I knew Nissan trucks had a great reputation for dependability (I've personally known many to last 250K+ miles without a worry), but now you can add practical and fun to their reputation. With all the features, (i.e. crew cab, CD changer, V6, bed extender, roof top luggage rack, etc.) this truck couldn't be more practical, nor more fun to drive.
great truck
it has been a very good truck , great dealer service iat mossy nissan el cojon, 4 wheel drive has worked great in the snow witer times would buy again.
truck necessities
The market for a midsize pickup is extensive. My requirements were 6 cylinders, man trans, 4wd and extended cab with one of those sliding rear windows. To find exactly what you are looking for takes time. I liked the nissan for the clearance it offered off the ground and the supposed good mileage while still havin a little bit of ass to it. So far it performs well on the beach, i did get it stuck (had my cousin pull me out) but that was due to pilot error. It has the necessary power, but mileage is not ideal. ive only had it a couple months so im still finding the ideal gear spots. it tends to be a bit noisy in the low gears though.
Insert review title here
I have owned my Nissan Frontier SE 4WD now for 7 months and I have almost no complaints. It performed well for me in the summer heat of NC and now is doing great in the winter snow of NH. I never worried about getting to work. In 4WD it is a bit difficult to make sharp turns (i.e. parking lot) but I guess its standard with a 4WD. Its a bit difficult to get in and out of the truck. The step rail is more for decoration. I was thinking of getting a car but I like the versatility of a truck with 4 doors. I guess its the truck for the undecided.
I'm lovin it!
I really love my truck thus far- it's only been 4 yrs! If I could change anything it would be the gas milage- not very good considering the trucks size but it is a six cyldr. Looks a lot better than the toyota and has an incredible resale value. the battery is due for a check up but other than that changing the oil is all Ive had to do. Highly recommend and will probably buy another.
The most utility for the buck!
This is the most versitile vehicle I have owned. I can haul the kids, camping gear, mountain bikes, take the wife to dinner and commute to work. This a less refined vehicle than some on the road (i.e. Lexus, Infiniti) but it gets the job down well with great exterior styling.
Great Little Truck
I've had a Ranger, Dakota, and an S10, and this truck has been better than them all. A little underpowered and a gas hog, but the front is comfortable and the four doors are great. Bed extender for the short bed is a must. Great looks, well built, engine has plenty of aftermarket parts available. I will own another Frontier after my experience with this one.
Gas Hog!!
Not bad, but fuel economy drags down the overall rating. I'm getting 13.5- 15.0 for in-city driving. No difference noticed for highway driving!?!
Good, reliable, and dependable
I bought this truck 2 years ago. So far I've only replaced one 25 dollar AC blower motor, the tires, and the oil (occasionally). The thing has over 115,000 miles and runs like a champ. I have never, ever, ever had a single problem with it that prevented me from doing what I wanted to do with it. I use it for bikes, canoes, hauling wood, driving around town, and I've never had any performance difficulties with my manual transmission. Plastic bumpers have a tendency to fade after awhile.
2001 Nissan Frontier
Nissan put some heart into this truck and given the same circumstances as when I bought it, I would buy it again. I do have a serious complaint about the gas mileage of this vehicle. Despite a number of different things I have tried, I rarely if ever get over 19 miles per gallon. Performance, Reliability, and features are what I LOVE about this truck. It is truly "my baby."
Great for the money
I have a desert runner with v6 manual trans. This is my second Nissan truck. The first one was an 1988 HD long bed v6 that had 225000 miles. That truck held up so well I had to buy another. I love my new one, its so smooth and drives great. Everyone complains about the gas mileage but mine is no different than my old truck. I think the gearing is to low,the engine runs at 3000 RPM at 70 MPH, but it has 4x4 gearing.
Does the job other than gas mileage
Bought the truck as a demo and couldve done better on the deal but came out ok. Truck runs great and handles just like a truck should handle. The overdrive kicks in way to quick while using cruise and going up a hill. This annoys the wife. Other than having the drivers door power window regulator assembly replaced and one of the rear doors also, havent had any problems with the vehicle except for mileage. Going to try a 70 series tire when these wear out and see if that helps the 16's really hurt the mileage on a V6.
4x4ing Skills
I have 10000+ miles on my '01 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 Off Road SEV6 now and darn near 2000 miles have been off road. This truck is extremely capable and agile when you equip it with proper off road tires and increase the clearance of the front suspension. With the 16 stock equipped rims, ground clearance is not a problem. 175hp in this truck is plenty to get me up any obstacles that Ive come across and with some minor upgrade engine performance parts available, this will only get better. I've driven completely around Mt. Charleston in Nevada and been thru trails that a comparable Ford Ranger 4x4 Off Road couldnt (and wouldnt) do.
ROMPING IN THE DESERT.
I BOUGHT MY FRONTEAR TO REPLACE MY 2 DOOR. I COULD NOT GET ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE SMALL TRUCK. THE 2001 4X4 HAS A LOT OF POWER FOR CLIMBING IN THE MOUNTAINS, BUT POOR GAS MILEAGE IN THE CITY. I LOVE MY TRUCK. RICH A.
The original air conditioner still blows cold
I got my regular cab Frontier XE brand new in 2001. The local NJ dealers refused to sell me the truck I wanted. (Not enough profit). I looked up AOL users who had Nissan and Smyrna, Tenn in their ID) I emailed about 10 workers and gave them my story. A few days later the dealer called me and he was grumpy "I got a truck here, take it or not." The truck had a lot of extras for $14,000 I paid. Over the last 24 years I've had 3 sets of tires, had 5 batteries, had the brakes done about 10 years ago. I retired at 55, so I don't drive much for the last 12 years. It has 136,000 and I never beat it and changed the oil without fail. And that truck starts and runs like new. All that and the truck averages 25mpg. One complaint is my dome light burned out. I still have the original head lights, the more I think about it, the more I love that truck. Garage kept for a well deserved vehicle!

Questionable Nissan Quality
After 51,000miles, my 2001 Frontier's AC would not blow cold air. i had it checked out at the dealer and the low end hose was leaking and was replaced,at my cost. After a few days, hot air was blowing again. Now, it's the evaporative cooler behind the dash that is leaking. This, I think, is a highly unexpected problem to occur on a car this new. I thought Nissans were very reliable, that is why I bought it, in the first place.
