Pros

Extensive list of safety and convenience features, sharp interior design, torquey V6 engine.

Cons

Unimpressive fuel economy numbers, less horsepower than top competitors despite larger engine, lacks overall refinement and a few key features, expensive compared to similarly equipped peers.

What’s new

Heated and cooled leather seats with perforated suede inserts are now standard on the Premier, while the AdvanceTrac stability control system and a liftgate spoiler are optional on both Luxury and Premier models. A power liftgate has been added to the options list of the Luxury, while all models can be equipped with Class I and Class II towing packages.

Edmunds says

Intended to provide a luxury minivan experience, the Monterey is both safe and stylish, but key omissions on the features list, an underachieving V6 and a general lack of refinement, make it less appealing than upscale vans from Chrysler, Honda and Toyota.

HAD the chev venture and pontiac before this both were in the shop steady bought the mercury van and it now has 101000 on only problem was 120 bucks very reliable gets from 19 to 24 mpg very comfortable

2004 Mercury Monterey Luxury 4dr Minivan (4.2L 6cyl 4A)

This van continues to be the best auto purchase I have made over 40 years of driving.I have had two repairs over the past six years. A door lock and an AC compressor last year. Total for both $900.00. This van is solid on the road and comfortable for my 6'2" 250 pound frame. Interior is very flexible. Pick up and passing performance seems to have improved over the years. 2005 Mercury Monterey Premier 4dr Minivan (4.2L 6cyl 4A)

I didn't want a minivan, she did and got her way. However, I'm glad we bought it. The front seats are both power, heated and cooled. The second row of captain chairs are also comfortable. The third row isn't as comfortable, but we normally keep it hidden in the floor. The power sliding doors are a real convenience when carrying grandbabies or groceries. Also like the in dash 6 CD …

2004 Mercury Monterey Convenience 4dr Minivan (4.2L 6cyl 4A)

My van now has 52,000 and the only problem was to replace a lock on a sliding door. Just replaced brakes and tires this month. Getting 21 mpg over all. About half of my driving is highway miles. My wife and I still love the looks and the comfort on roadtrips. The engine has a lot of torque and is fast off the line and good at passing in the 45-60 mph range. The advance trac feature …
