LOOKS CAN BE VERY DECEIVING....
Run away folks and never buy an ML350. I assumed since it was German engineered, it would be perfect like the BMW which I've owned several BMWs sonce the 90s. I chose the ML350 over the X5 based on being of a more luxurious look. I didn't expect the quality to be that of a $10,000 new vehicle. It was just that, a piece of junk. From the balance shaft issues to the power steering issues to the transmission issues, it never stops. Repairs in the thousands! Saddest part is Mercedes knew about their defective issues and don't stand behind their known defects leaving the customers in a bad way. Shame on Mercedes! I will never buy a Mercedes-Benz again and will stick with BMW always. My Mercedes-Benz SUV piece of junk everyday vehicle is now garaged and I'm forced to drive my weekend BMW M6 as my everyday vehicle until I figure out what to do to get rid of it without taking a huge financial loss but still maintaining my honesty conveying the good, the bad and the ugly which is how I live my life. Mercedes don't care about reputation nor repeat business from loyal customers; they just care about money....

Great SUV IF its working
We purchased an 2006 ML500 a year ago. It has been in the shop at least 4 times and over $10K of repairs. I am glad we purchased the extended warranty and it is still covered. Thank God! Anways, if this suv was just reliable it would be perfect. My wife and I love driving this vehicle. The problem it is always in the shop. We are thinking about trading it in because it a hassle taking it to the shop every 3-4 months. This is by far the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned.

Buy extended warranty, maintainence$$$
Dealership charges $600 for glorified oil change (schedule C). Have had for 4 yrs only about 7000 mi/yr. Now my warranty is up- last month. Only 28,000 mi., I have had numerous transmission problems, only the Mercedes dealership will take care of it. Have spent over $5000 since warranty out.
Happy Owner
The 2006 Mercedes Benz ML550 is a huge step up from the 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350. At less than 1 mpg difference than the 350 the 550 is definitely the king of the road. Buy the ML550 over the ML350 (if you can find one) and you'll be a whole lot happier.
Great when it's not in the shop. Can't recommend
Be VERY careful with the 2006 ML350. When everything works there's nothing like it! Drive is superb, handling is excellent, and the HK stereo system is incredible. Peppy engine, holds cruise speed no problem, even on inclines. All-around over-engineered but it's something else for sure! However .......... bought it used 2+ years ago (9/16), in pristine external and internal condition, maintenance records showing all oil changes at better-than-Mercedes recommended intervals, with 84k miles on it. Within a week the car went into limp mode (transmission) and I had the transmission/valve body conductor plate issue, repaired that ($1,100), and all was well until about < 1 month later experiencing front-end noises/grinding, thinking wheel bearing but it was the front differential ($1,100). MB poorly designed/implemented bearings (they used light duty bearings) had to be redone (used car dealer's mechanic did poor job on repair, had to have it re-done just last week, but that's an aside). The secondary air intake (front of engine, bolt on, vacuum lines, etc.) failed and did that myself. Thermostat failed at 94k miles. I did that repair myself. Then had that differential bearing sound again, but turned out to be a wheel bearing, a repair I could not do. Recently, the entire liner (inside ceiling fabric) started coming down, had to get that redone. All in all, too many failures along the way, am WAY underwater in terms of what I have in it, and now I am in hope/prayer mode that the scary balance shaft issue does not happen to me. If so then I think I'll scrap it. I will NEVER buy another Mercedes Benz for as long as I live.
