Used 2004 Mazda RX-8 Automatic 4dr Coupe (1.3L 2rtr 4A) Consumer Reviews
So Far so Good
I have 1744 Miles on the RX-8 and it has just started to move in the last 300 miles. It needs to be turning over at least 3000 to get any performance and has no PUSH at low RPM'S. The transmission is super in both automatic and manual and is fun to use. There have been absolutley no problems with the car mechnically!!! I had to learn to drive all over again after a 350HP TransAm but that is part of the fun and an very satisfied after driving it this far. The start stop is not a problem after you understand what's required.
BEWARE OF THE SHORTFALLS
The RX8 is a great looking auto and it handles quite well - BUT: 1. It drinks fuel like a Hummer. 2. It's way underpowered with no real torque to boast of (especially the automatic transmission). 3. The air conditioner is all but useless in the South. 4. It has dangerous rear blind spots due to its cabin design. 5. Get the spare tire but then forget any luggage after that. 6. Rear passengers can barely see over the window sills - claustrophobic!

Well its pretty
Erratic shifting with the automatic...
it looks sweet
When you need a sudden increase in speed it doesnt do the job. After being washed the car is hard to start. Otherwise its so stylish..Oh and gas mileage with high-test isnt the greatest.
Lemon
We bought our RX8 the week the first ones rolled into town. Loved everything about it except the weak AC. When the car idles at a stop light, the AC gets warm. However, the big issue is when temperatures get around 100 degrees, the car starts shaking and dies. It's been in the dealership for 2 months now and Mazda cannot fix it. They are doing a buyback of RX8's with this problem. Evidently it only affects automatics when they get very hot. We cannot even trade into another RX8 because they cannot tell with automatics will have this same problem. We will miss the car.
