Vroom Vroom - Mazda3 Hatch

The bluetooth drops occasionally and the plastic trim on the outer edge of the door window jam shows finger indentation from shutting the door from this point. The safety features are really good and the look and feel of the car are great for the price. The heated seats only heat the bottom, unlike my previous car which heated the lower back. No real issues with this car to speak of at this point. It's stylish, functional and gets great mpg without losing power.

My 3HB is a blast to drive. I just love getting behind the wheel of it and push it to its limits. The engine is powerful, with great responsiveness. Fuel economy could be better. The front seats are very comfortable, but finding a good driving position has been troublesome to watch the play of the center mounted Tachometer. Plus, the heads up screen gets cut off, making seeing the speedometer difficult at times trying to find the perfect driving position. The Navigation screen is placed high enough, but doesn't show very many characters on the XM radio screen, sun glare is often frustrating, and you can't zoom in on "up-to-date traffic". This car handles much better then my previous 2012 i sport HB. I have to admit Mazda makes a great car, I would love a few changes. It is hard to find cars with a manual transmission. No electric, hybrid, or all-wheel drive option.

Great Car, Useless Navigation

Gordon Egger, 10/26/2017

I love this car overall, but the navigation is near useless. In town the system often won't allow input of your address because it can't find it, and I'm not talking about new areas of town, it often can't find addresses that were built 20 years ago. In some cases it makes you turn the wrong way, then make a U-turn to correct itself. I almost mounted the Tom-Tom from my other car on my dash for a 3600 mile road trip recently, but I thought it might be better in other areas. I wish I would have used the Tom-Tom, it is so much better than this system, and it cost me less than a hundred bucks! Mazda, your navigation system is an insult to an otherwise great car!

All in all, a zippy, well-appointed car. A few tweaks would make it perfect: quieter tires, a manual trunk release and/or access to the trunk from inside, switchable power outlets that are a bit more accessible, raised cowl for the wipers so that snow and ice don't accumulate in winter. I leased it based on years of great reviews from multiple sources on its reliability and performance. One disappointment for me...I like a sunroof. This one is noisy no matter what open position it is in. I've have cars in which the rush of air is barely noticeable. Not a deal-breaker for most people but I had hoped for better. Beyond that, a sporty, practical vehicle.

Bought this car used over a year ago and LOVE it. It now has 50k miles on it. I've had BMWs, Yukon, 4Runner, Odessey. I've recently driven a Lexus, Lincoln Continental, and Lincoln MKZ that belonged to family members. Now, I'm not saying that my little Mazda is better than a BMW, but I'd take my little Mazda over my BMW any day based upon the 'Happiness-per-Dollar" factor. I've only had to change the oil so far, but it's a lot cheaper than luxury cars and I expect all other maintenance costs will be cheaper too. The best part of this car are the controls for the entertainment/navigation system. The location and logic of the controls are easy and intuitive. I don't have to constantly lean forward and poke at the touch screen (which means no finger prints on the screen -Bonus!). The acceleration, speed, & handling are fun (important to note - I have the bigger engine). I could go on and on! Update: It's now Sept 2019....I've owned the car over two years now. Happy as ever!! I've put new tires on it but nothing else yet! LOVE this car!! Can't say enough great things about it. With new tires my MPG jumped up from 22 mpg to 26 mpg....all my driving is around town, lots of deliveries, stop-start so I think that's pretty good. Update: Sept 2020. I now have 76K miles on my Mazda. No maintenance or repairs in last year except for oil changes

What you need to know: the 2015 sedan was light years ahead of other sedans. If you’re like to drive, if you like knowing you’re always in control, if you like beating others to the next red or green light, then this is your car! However, if practicality, durability, and room to breathe are on your list, I would look elsewhere. I had this model for a little over three years on a lease. I had the sedan, with the plastic hubcaps and infotainment screen smack dab in the middle of the dashboard. The driver cockpit is cramped, there just isn’t much moving around. It’s pretty dull to look at, too. The seats offer good support but dogs are not welcome in Mazda’s. The interiors are of high quality - good thing - but are not built for adventure. Such as you would find in a Subaru, Chevy, or Mitsubishi. This car is for the enthusiast who didn’t know they were one.

This is such a fun car to drive! It's small and easy to maneuver but the hatchback gives the trunk extra room. The blindspot sensors are really helpful, especially since the back windows are kind of small. The backup camera is also very helpful for parking. One thing I'm not a huge fan of is the infotainment system. It's controlled by a knob rather than a touch screen, which can be a little sticky at times and hard to control. There's also no carplay feature but you can upload contacts from your phone, so that's pretty nice. I wish there were a few more buttons to control the audio (source button, scan and seek buttons) because it's a little inconvenient to have to browse through menus to get to those controls. Overall I'm a huge fan though and I'm loving my 2015 Mazda 3!

Transmission issues

Sj, 11/26/2021

1 of 1 people found this review helpful

I've had 2. They are nice to drive and the interior is nice. I take very good care of my cars, oil changes on time, tune ups, flushes..ext. both of them the transmission started to slip just after 85k miles. Both of them the front bumpers started to pop on the sides as the clips started to give . This is without an accident or abuse. The shocks were terrible as well and needed replaced. it's my mistake for buying 2. I thought they might have worked out the bugs 5 years later. Mazda could give me no reason other than normal wear and tear. Again no accidents and no crazy driving. This is not normal. I've moved on.

I was shopping for a cheap run around car and this vehicle ticked all the boxes. Plus I was wowed by the glowing reviews on just about every website. The initial impressions did not disappoint but they wore off pretty quickly and I never fell in love with it. Contrary to Mazda's marketing it is not a fun car to drive. The ride is incredibly harsh thanks to the cheap wish bone suspension, the visibility is the worst of any vehicle I have ever owned, and the automatic transmission is awful. It is constantly upshifting even at low speed and the throttle response is very slow. The steering is overly sensitive and requires constant attention just to stay in lane. On the plus side the engine is the best 4-cylinder gas engine there is proving you can make an engine that is both fuel efficient and powerful. The interior feels like a Mercedes. Too bad about the rest of it. The impression is lipstick on a pig. As a cheap run around it does the job but the Civic, Golf, and Corolla are all better choices.

The 2015 Mazda3 is a hassle to drive. It is nothing like the 2012 Mazda3. It is problematic. The radio/navigation does not work well at all. It can NEVER be turned off, just muted. It freezes up, restarts, deletes favorites, and is overall poorly designed. Mazda offers very little solutions. On top of this, the MPG is grossly inflated. I have not gotten over 30mpg ever in 5 months. I typically average 27-29mpg. The gas tank is smaller than the 2012, so total range is less than 400. The 2012 would have a range of 500-600. I am so disappointed that I let my 2012 go for this 2015.

After driving this car for a year I am very satisfied with its performance. I get about 38mpg when I take care not let the car idle for long periods. With mileage like that you can't expect strong acceleration except possibly with a turbo. Ride and handling are exceptional for this size car and I really like the styling .

-Infotainment system crashed just after 3/36 warranty expired. Dlr wanted 1k to replace “mother board”. -Also, wiper pump doesn’t work (checked you tube how to replace, have to remove entire front grille). -Fuel level drops like a rock at 1/2 tank. Fixed the wiper pump, - Keeping up on oil changes, changed battery, replaced all 4 tires, -was told by dlr. suspension bushings need replaced. -Replaced serpentine belt (doesn't cost much) (All this just after 3/36 warranty expired). Infotainment was first to go. =Had a recall re: emgcy brake, after vehicle inspection: front suspension bushings have to be replaced. -However, the good news is @ almost 117,000 ( June 2021) it still runs good. (keep up on the oil changes) However I don’t believe I will buy another mazda

Within the first year, some of the plastic trim below the interior front passenger door handle broke off. I thought it was just a fluke but it was really an indicator of what's to come. I've had this car 5 years now and it has just 56,000 miles, however, within this time, the entertainment system touch screen has ghost touching issues (there is an open service request by Mazda to fix this issue), horn has gone out, the driver side window regulator went out, and had to replace the purge valve. Furthermore, the car just doesn't sound right. Also, it has a loud interior when driving on the highway, and Bluetooth issues when connecting to iPhone. We haven't had any major issues with it so far, but I would still consider this too many repairs for such low mileage.

Mazda3 is worth the low cost

I bought it to replace a Jetta TDI without the TDI issues. I got what I needed for commuting at 1/2 the cost of a new Passat TDI. I get 38mpg, decent handling and performance. So far, there have been no repairs needed and I really don't expect them. The driver's seat has sagged and broken down with use and is now uncomfortable. My main issue is with the entertainment system/instrumentation. The location of the large touchscreen is distracting and the control buttons on the center console are not intuitive. They all require taking eyes off the road to be sure you have done what you intended. This evaluation is not just an old man thing. My 24 year old son puts a hat over the screen when he uses the car. The MT shifts smoothly and the motor is responsive for a 4cyl. MPG is still very good. After about 90000 miles it is still trouble free and my son has it full time. He drives very hard and is not happy with the performance but is otherwise happy with a free (to him) car.

I love the acceleration of my Mazda 3 as well as the turning radius. My complaints have more to do with my husband's big and tall body. He wants a car that is larger and that he steps up into instead of falling down into. The back seats are not suitable for anyone over 5'6".

This car was a rock star for me! The manual transmission gave great control, pickup and fun ride. The body style on the 2015 sedan was the best-looking imo. Peppy car is in pristine condition with black rim add-ons and a tow hitch for a bike rack. I washed/cleaned it inside and out and serviced it often so don't worry about the mileage. The "accident" was slight damage to the body (beautifully repaired) but no structural damage. This was hard to let go...I just needed a truck!

I drove this car from California to Albuquerque and back last summer. No comfort/back problems compared to my older car. Average gas mileage for the trip was right around 40mpg. UPDATE 12/28/2017: No longer have this car. I have been driving a 2006 Mazda Miata, and love it even more than the Mazda 3. Still love Mazda vehicles.

I bought the car brand new and since then have had nothing but trouble. The car has needed new engine replacement and then a new fuel injection put in. Also both rear seat belts have needed to be replaced and now it needs a new i stop battery which Mazda will not replace under warranty. I have only ever taken the car into the Mazda dealer for services and still they will not give me copies of what has had to be replaced and have nothing to say about the continuous issues this car has had. I would not recommend the CX3. I also know of other people who have had similar problems with this model and just had to cut their losses and sell car for a lot less then previously valued and got another car ( not Mazda) but unfortunately I am not in the position to do that. After speaking to head office Mazda I told them all the problems with car and they really don't care and now the car just came out of warranty if these things keep happening it will start costing me a fortune to fix.
