The only SUV that matters

I have a 2017 LX 570 and this is my third LX dating back to 2002. My previous vehicle was a 2006 LX; I absolutely love the upgrades both internally and externally. I would not comment on the mpg as a negative--especially considering this is a full-time four-wheeled drive vehicle that weighs over 7,000 lbs--poor mpg is to be expected. I considered purchasing a Mercedes G Wagon or a Range Rover Autobiography...regardless of the curb appeal for those vehicles, none can compare to the LX's reliability and resale value. Having an attractive SUV that only looks good but cannot withstand the test of time (unreliable) is an oxymoron. I look forward to additional LX upgrades in time. The only SUV that matters.

Mountain goat on steroids in a tuxedo

I am one of the rare luxury SUV owners that occasionally uses the vehicle in true off-road conditions while on my gentlemen's hunting trips. The LX is luxuriously beautiful both inside and out, which pleases my wife, but also has plenty of room for my dog and equipment. It readily goes where I need it to go. It has a locking differential to put it in "mountain goat" mode. which is more and more difficult to find on large luxury SUVs. Mercedes GLS doesnt have it; Even Range Rover no longer offers a locking differential unless you opt for one of the higher end trims with a bigger engine... (that was my second choice of vehicle.) The LX has plenty of power and mass to tow my boat. And, it has Lexus reliability too. Happy! -----UPDATE AFTER THREE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP----- Everything I wrote above in my initial review still holds. As expected. the reliability of the LX has been perfect. Absolutely no problems. My only trips to the dealer have been for regularly scheduled maintenance. I previously had a GX 460, which gave me six years of perfect reliability. So, that's a total of nine years of perfection in the reliability area... Thanks, Lexus! So after this time, what else do I like? My two-row version gives me a cavernous fully coverable cargo space behind the second row. I have no use for a third row and am so glad I had the option for a well-appointed two-row version. What don't I like? The mandatory "optional" 21-inch wheels and tire size are stupid. The odd size yields very limited tire-replacement options. I also think the wheels and tires are not matched well to the vehicle's suspension as it had a tendency to wander on the highway, requiring regular minor adjustments in steering. The tires and wheels are the only issue that I find annoying. Otherwise it continues to be a very good, reliable vehicle for my needs.

Best Large Luxury SUV Sold!

If you're looking to purchase a strong, reliable, luxurious large SUV, the LX 570 is truly the BEST choice available. This is my third Lexus vehicle. I've owned the 2016 LX for a few months, and it is truly confidence inspiring. It feels strong and solid, without sacrificing luxury and comfort. It feels as though it was built to go the ends of the Earth and, more importantly, MAKE IT BACK unscathed!

I own a 2019 LX 570 with all the options except the cooler and rear entertainment system. My previous vehicle was a 2017 Platinum Tundra with a leveling kit and custom wheels/tires and a bunch of ad on's. I'm use to driving larger vehicles. I could see the LX 570 being an intimidating vehicle if you are not accustomed to driving a truck or larger SUV. I don't have any serious complaints about the vehicle. However, I do have a few points of criticism. First, the infotainment system "mouse" is just down right stupid. We live a time where touch screen gesture rich interfaces are a maintstay. Lexus should take not of that fact and consider how to integrate that kind of a platform into the vehicles. Second, for me, the 21 inch wheels and 285/50/R21 wheels are just ridiculous. You can't get very many replacements wheels for the rims, and with all this offroad capability, you throw it out the window with this setup. I replaced the stock wheels with 275/55/R20's rims with offroad tires. This required removing the small front wheel well mudflaps and make a small adjustment to the wheel well plastic to avoid rubbing issues. The vehicle looks(to me) a lot better and has more utility for luxurious outdoor adventures(though the approach angle is still far inferior to the Land Cruiser). Lastly, braking is a bit touchy. There is a point at which the brakes appear to feel underengaging, then rapidly overengage with slightly more pressure. This took some getting use to to avoid stopping faster than I'd like. Maybe it's just related to how little wear the vehicle currently has on the brake pads, etc. All in all, I would highly recommend this, but would advise you to avoid going with the 21inch wheels stock. You have a lot more options with the 20 inch wheels if utility and use, vs around town driving will play an element in your ownership of this vehicle.

This is truely the undisputed king of all off-road

I took this vehicle on an extremely steep trail carved on a side of a mountain in West Virginia. I could swear that the incline was close to 45 degrees. And it was full of mud (slippery clay) since it was newly maintained trail and it was raining on-off continuously for 2 weeks. And I kid you not, this vehicle made it thru the entire trail without even revving a cylinder! It was so effortless I started yawning. I also tested the CRAWL system, and it is really amazing. And as far as luxury, comfort, and quality, no other vehicle combines all features into one beautifully designed vehicle like the Land Cruiser/Lexus LX 570! I really don't have any complaints other than improving on the fuel economy and also make the infotainment a bit more smart-phone friendly cause it is not (and can be cumbersome). Other than that it is a perfect SUV!

Trulely the king of suvs I have had serval suvs including g wagons Range Rover escalade 4 runner LX570 is the DADDY HANDS DOWN. It is the most comfortable SUV for road trips with o cooler in the armrest that fits a full bottle of champagne and still has room. Looks that are amazing and gets complements all the time. If you are thinking about getting one go for it as I can tell Ashly say this is the best SUV ever built.

The best SUV in this category

This is LX570 #4 for me. I've never owned four of anything, and every time I think about getting another LX570, I read about all others in the same category and drive them to see if there is something better. There isn't. And with each passing year, the LX570 just gets better. Yes, there are two other brands that are perceived to have higher status, but both have crappy resale and are filled with antiquated technology. I've taken mine in soft sand on the Washington Coast, without any problems or fear of getting stuck. I have used crawl control twice. There is no vehicle better suited for a road trip. It's the ultimate for that purpose, except for the low gas mileage. Don't pay attention to the computer that shows you getting 12. I'm getting closer to 15-18, which still isn't great, but this is a massive, very heavy SUV. I keep buying them because given the value and high resale, the overall cost of ownership is far lower than the other two in the same price point. American SUVs feel cheap to me and don't have the same attention to detail. I also have an S550 and I still prefer driving the LX570. It's also the little details, the quality of the switches, the feel of buttons, all the touch points that make the LX a better vehicle. Some of the others look cooler, more trendy, but you pay for it in lost features and horrible resale. If this is a dog hauler, it's best with the third row seat down and a seat cover. With the two seats up, the critters don't have any side visibility and the window line is high. Best to toss them in the third row seat, which still leaves enough room for groceries behind the third row, and a hair-free back seat. It's that third row seat for dogs that is a must for me. When you put it in Sport mode, it really does stiffen up and you can toss it around while paddle shifting. Yes, it's a beast and don't expect it to want to grip the road like the family Lamborghini, however that said, it will delight you if you let it. What I love about Lexus is that they just don't break. In my years of owning the brand, I've only had a few occasions when I had any unscheduled maintenance and that was in the 90s. I have about 4,000 miles on my 2017 and I'm thrilled with it. I do wish the second row had a tiny bit more leg room, but it's still not bad. Other gripes- though minor, would be the way you can't control the GPS while in camera mode on split screen. Also, when it comes to media, you have to spend some time getting to know the full capabilities. It can do a lot. The seats are extremely comfortable on very long drives and the cooler between the seats gets used all the time. I LOVE this thing!

The Lexus LX570 is a great car in fact better than our old Land. Cruiser. The LX is amazing for off-road! I love the spilt trunk doors! Perfect for picnics and drive in movie theaters. So much useful things for us too and since we have to bring a trailer to store our luggage for vacations the LX is perfect for that. Even though it might be a little overpriced the LX is a perfect car for outgoing families. No I’m not a critic.

LandCruisers and LXs are NOT for electronic lovers! These machines are made to go anywhere and return home safely. You do not even need a navigation as you can go to your destination and find your way back home. The built quality is second to none, for example I have a Land Cruiser and at 230K miles only ONE oil seal has been replaced for its entire life...

This is a great SUV and very smooth ride. There is one concern that is not trivial as it relates to safety of the vehicle. As we have another comment below from some regarding Breaking and the Dunlop tires. I have experienced the same thing and it really is very bad breaking in snow. In fact , if the snow is slightly more than normal on the road, the car does not have any traction. I am not sure if any one else has experienced the same. As it drives well in other conditions, it most likely are the tires that are major concern. Most likely they hydroplane and that is dangerous in snowy and icy conditions-- > I mean much more than any other average car that I have driven. I hope Lexus takes a note of this.

One word to describe this SUV compared to others in its class would be: Overpriced. You are simply NOT getting anything worth it’s hefty tag of $100K! Let’s start with what it is LACKING that SUV’s 1/2 its price have.....NO Lane Assist, NO Panoramic Sunroof or Power Sunshade (manual only), NO Quiet Cabin (I clearly hear all road noise and the super irritating noise of the fans whenever the cooled/heated seats or cabin controls are on anything but low...(no excuse for this CHEAP design), NO Touch Pad screens, NO Color Changing Ambient Lighting, NO Choice of Engines, NO Keypad for phone dialing, NO Easy Interface (I am very good with technology but this thing is a joke), NO Rear USB ports, NO Digital Clock (only a hard-to-read analog one). In addition, it has poor leg room in the third due to bad floor design, Poor Cargo Space due to poorly designed folding seats, and ready for this one???!???...it comes with a car starter, but you only get to use it for ONE YEAR before they force you to pay for their Lexus Enform App to keep it going! NO yearly $300 App = NO Starter!! The drive is so clunky and tipsy around turns that I would compare it to navigating a tall cinder block on lego wheels. Oh, and the split truck is actually a big pain b/c they “forgot” to add power to the lower hatch, so if you have something heavy in your arms, you have to set it on the ground to manually open the dang lower trunk first! The controls are in horrible spots (coffee cups will block the single USB port and phone “cubby”, no other place for your phone. I have to constantly take my eyes of the road to try to navigate through the dinosaur limited options screen and buttons. Seriously, every question I have for Lexus on if there is something I might be missing, is met with a resounding NO! Unless you think it is ok to pay $100K for a vehicle that raises and lowers (no big deal since many other SUV’s do this too), and you’re OK with getting 10MPG b/c they didn’t bother to improve consumption, then save yourself from this headache and buy something else. Anything else.

This is a great vehicle overall, however, the acceleration is abysmal considering the massive engine and the price is foolishly high. This SUV is identical to the Toyota Land Cruiser underneath and even the interior is roughly the same. Lexus added a little more leather and changed the badge. Speaking on the Land Cruiser it handles and drives the same. One of the greatest off-road vehicles you can buy right now, and it will probably outlast you. I do think that there are better options in this class of vehicle if you are not constantly driving off-road. The Range Rover is possibly a bit better off and on road but also has a higher price and checkered reliability. Not a bad vehicle but save yourself $10,000 and get the Land Cruiser.

If you EVER intend to drive in the snow and ice, DRIVE IT on those first. You likely will not buy it. I bought it before the snow flew. In years past, I had driven other LXs on snow and ice and they were great. Thought this one would be even better with improvements over the years. NOT! First, all LX models in the US are shipped with the "optional" 21" wheels/tires. NOBODY makes replacement tires for the size that comes on the car. You are stuck with what comes on it - great in the summer, junk in the winter. Literally the absolute worst tires ever on snow and ice for an SUV. They will not stop this heavy vehicle. When I called/wrote to Lexus to complain about buying a $100k SUV that cannot be safely driven in the snow in Colorado, Lexus was beyond uninterested in the problem. I would not buy this vehicle again, which is unfortunate since in good weather it is very nice. It rides more comfortably than any of the competitors I drove (many) and is much more quiet and refined. The technology is outstanding as is the Mark Levinson stereo (best I have ever heard in any vehicle). The acceleration is very weak though. Definitely not up to par in this class. But it is livable. Gas mileage is abysmal but let's face it, people who buy these cars are probably not terribly concerned with that. Still, it has a relatively small gas tank so I fill it much more than I had to fill my previous Yukon XL Denali (which also got an average of 2-4mpg better than the LX). Since I originally wrote this, I have experience more and more issues with the Lexus Enform App Suite having significant connectivity errors. Really annoying

A luxury SUV with great looks both inside and out with a first class ultra comfortable interior. Built like a tank but ride can be very bouncy except at low speeds, brakes require significant effort, and, until the car gets up to speed the steering can be stiff and heavy with no way to adjust. Little difference between comfort and sport suspension options. Marc Levinson stereo is the best of any car. A remarkably quiet vehicle. Air conditioning, unlike in some cars, is totally automatic, quickly cools the car and is totally silent. Had a new Range Rover and 3 days after I took delivery it was in the shop for a week due to a transmission problem and the wait for parts to fix it, so no more Range Rovers. Range Rover interior is beautiful but it looks more like business class than first class like the Lexus. Range Rover resale was an issue at trade in.

$100,000 Let Down

PCM, 11/05/2022
2016 Lexus LX 570 4dr SUV 4WD (5.7L 8cyl 8A)
3 of 6 people found this review helpful

I have had this car since mid 2017 and in that time I have put 100,000 miles on it. Within that time, the lack of attention to detail has shown greatly. While the engine is incredibly smooth and the ride quality is great, the infotainment and poor interior quality lets down the car significantly, especially at its price point. There are numerous interior creaks and rattles. Bear in mind, there is nothing in the interior of the car outside of the insurance, registration, and my wallet. It’s not like the interior is particularly nice either - the buttons are all cheap, there is cheap black plastic everywhere, and the headliner is the same material used in a ‘96 Corolla. The leather is really nice, apart from the fact that at around 60k miles the finish just started flaking off. I would not be disappointed if the cars MSRP wasn’t 6 figures. It has the interior of a $45,000 car. Another drawback is how unstable the LX is at highway speeds. Above 70 mph, the steering wheel shakes. It has done this since the beginning of my ownership. 70 mph in an LX feels like 120 mph in a normal, well built car. At least the ride makes up for it. Otherwise, the LX is an incredible car. For the price point, it has no excuses to be as lackluster as it is. Lexus quality has gone downhill and this car is a prime example of such. I would not buy the LX unless you got a really good deal on it or drive a ton and need something that will never die. Pros: - Amazing engine. Though slow, it is incredibly smooth and balanced - Great off-road. I strongly suggest taking your LX on a trail if you have not - Smooth ride. The car is like a cloud, especially on long trips. - Seats. The seats are incredibly ergonomic and the heating/cooling functions are tremendous. - Infotainment. Everyone complains about the mouse but you adapt to it quickly. I do not mind it whatsoever. Cons: - Archaic suspension is not inspiring whatsoever. Vehicle is very unstable at highway speeds. It literally drives like a 25 year old car. - The interior quality is horrendous. Everything is fading quickly, breaking, or just flat out cheap. I have used a plethora of detailing products in attempt to save it and nothing has worked. - Transmission is smooth until 80% throttle input, then the jerks are so significant they cause magnitude 9+ earthquakes. - HVAC system is terrible. Makes the car super stuffy in the winter time.

Looks like a typical Lexus box car. Lexus needs a younger designer to move them towards state-of-the-art or aerodynamic design. Great paint as expected. Feels like the vehicle was designed for small people. Small interior for the class. Not a lot of leg room for second row. Seats are not that comfortable in comparison to an Escalade. Technology is 8 years outdated. The navigation system sucks. Useless Lexus apps included. Has many special features that you must view the manual or youtube to learn about these great tips. 14 MPG. However, expected low mileage on premium gas. Rides great on the freeway, streets, or off-road. Is a rocket in Sport mode and responds well when given the gas. Most reliable vehicle ever. Have never had a single mechanical problem.

Nice large vehicle with good safety features such as numerous, well distributed airbags. I consider the 6000 pound weight a bit of a safety feature as well. Has a number of issues which would place this vehicle between a 3 and 4 star rating for me. I had a 2011 model which I traded for a 2016. The engine in the newer model is more sluggish, and if a more rapid acceleration is desired, the engine sounds like a 4 cylinder that is about to throw a rod. The 2011 engine and transmission strangely seemed quite superior. This is usually sold with the 21 inch wheels, and as I found out after purchase, that Dunlop is the only manufacturer of a tire this size. Not a very good tire and I am at this moment in my 3rd week without being able to drive my car because the tires are nationally on a back order. The vehicle is sitting at my Lexus dealer, who doesn't really know what to tell me at this point. The screens for watching television in the back seat stick so far off of the backs of the front seats that they encroach on the headspace of the rear seat passengers. I found this almost scary when I sat in the back seat. Anti-lock brake mechanism is not smooth and if hard braking is required, the tires seem to skip around on the road. Not sure how much of this is due to the tire quality versus the anti-lock quality.

Lexus LX 570 is a great car, both from outside and inside looks to its safety and comfort. Nothing to complain.

If the what your most concerns were listed in the title of this review, then this is the one to get. Of course there are always room for improvement: self parking, self driving, more leg room for the 3rd row, more room for cargo space, better miles per gallon, and double moon roof or panoramic roof, etc.

Never owning another Lexus

Bought a 2020 LX after owning 4 Toyota Land Cruisers (2020 LX is the same as 2021. The only reason we decided on the LX was because it has suspension - it lowers to the ground when parked. We wanted that for the elderly people in our family, and they have been in our car twice in two years. The pickup is absolutely horrible - so much slower than the land cruiser. Its in the shop every four months (granted, we've put 60,000 miles in two years), but when the service people say later that day, its three days later we get it back. Another thing is when you hit 60 MPH, the steering wheel starts to vibrate. We told the service team when it was in the shop and they never fixed it. We also like the rugged look of the land cruiser much better. The infotainment is awful. The mouse is totally unnecessary (although you get used to it) and you can't control whether the air is blowing at you face or at your feet without using the mouse and clicking a bunch of buttons on the screen. Super inconvenient. The fact that the car doesn't have apple car play is mind boggling. with the Lexus Inform bluetooth system the phone will randomly;y disconnect and won't play music unless, again, like the climate system, use the mouse and click a bunch of buttons. Imagine trying to type in an address to the navigation system! The Mark Levinson surround sound system doesn't work either. We didn't have this many issues with all four land cruisers combined (we've owned land cruisers since 1994, and we currently have a 2015). Also not a fan of the color choices. Wanted silver (the silver the land cruiser had) but we had to opt for the Atomic Silver which is like a gold-tan-gray-brown. We also have red interior and it has black accents, which is really hard to see in the dark if you drop something. Unfortunately they have stopped land cruiser production in the US so we can't trade in for another one. Looking in to trading in the LX for a different car because o all the problems - and we won be purchasing another Lexus EVER. So disappointed with the car in general, and with the service. All the hype is not worth it. Not happy with it at all. DO NOT BUY!!!

This vehicle is for the usually driver who’s looking for reliablety, Safety and comfort all in one who knows every time he or she enter the vehicle they know this vehicle doesn’t change. This is the most consistent drive of a Real Suv and doesn’t have to apologize for it size.. I have own Lx470 and serval Lx570 and invite those who ride the fence base on not taking a true test drive of one of the most remarkable vehicle of it size and Toyoto continues to express. With You in Mind.
