My Forth Lexus LS

This is my forth Lexus LS vehicle and they are by far the finest cars I have ever owned. My wife had a Mercedes E 350 and it was a piece of junk compared to the Lexus LS 430 I had at the time. The Merc ran ok, but the six was underpowered. The Lexus cars get better gas mileage, have better seating and far better build quality. Parts for the Merc were outrageous. The Lexus' don't break, so I've little to compare them to on parts cost. The Current LS 460 is quiet, as expected, fit and finish is great, the technology works as described and the interior appointments are what I expect for a high end luxury cruiser. again, the 2016 LS 460 is the finest car I have ever owned and I'm certain that it will last as long as the LS 430 that it replaced. The LS 430 had 150,000 miles on the clock with only one warranty visit during its long life.

A great car

Owned three MB E 350 class cars that were good cars. I then traded in my 2015 RX-350 AWD, which was also a very nice car, for the 2016 LS 460. By any means, the LS 460 was the nicest car I have ever owned. The quiet comfort, quality, amenities and performance are superb. This car compares favorably to the MB S Class at about $25000.00 less, and is a lot more dependable. Low speed acceleration is acceptable, but high speed acceleration above 70mph is superb. Gas mileage however is poor, depending on the way you drive. Steering feel is better than any Mercedes, and body lean is also better. The infotainment system in the Mercedes was easier to use, but after some getting used to it, the mouse control in the Lexus becomes more user friendly. The voice command works quite well, and the Lexus Enform Apps are great. After owning the car for over two years and 22000 miles later, the car is still great, and my ratings would still be the same as the day I purchased the car. The Lexus Enform Apps however have deteriorated to the point of being useless.

Last excellent Lexus

WDB, 06/27/2020

Excellent car and would buy a white 2017 LS460 with low mileage, if I could find one. I did buy a 2018 LS500, but traded it back in for the 2016, once I realized how dangerous and unsafe the 2018 was to drive, without the cruise control lever and a terrible infotainment center. I've owned many excellent Lexus LS models, which I can highly recommend, all before the 2018 LS500. Unless future LS Lexus models return to some the conveniences and safe operating systems they always had before 2018, they definitely will lose me as a customer.

Another Great LS 460

This is a great car. Very smooth ride, comfortable and best of all reliable. I previously owned a 2008 LS which was destroyed by another errant driver while on the freeway. That vehicle was 9 years old and never needed to use the warranty, . . . or any maintenance issues at all. . . A very reliable vehicle. My hopes is this '17 LS will be the same. I don't want to spend my time in the dealership getting things fixed for poor assembly, . . and with Lexus LS you will not see the inside of the dealership except for the standard service intervals. I have taken several trips, and find this to be a very comfortable vehicle getting 29 mpg on the freeway at 70+. Second LS with 11 years total between the two vehicles and NO Warranty repairs needed. Excellent quality.

Had two Infiniti Q-45 V-8 cars which were really fun to drive, especially the second sport model. Lexus LS much quieter with easier steering, not as sporty, but more comfortable. Lots of new electronics, especially huge view screen. Ventilated front seats wonderful in desert weather. Very firm lumbar support which is a bit low for my back, despite height adjustment. Have never found a comfortable German car except Mercedes S-class, which rode like a Chevrolet and was severely underpowered. Don't understand the previous review. This is the nicest car I've ever owned! Considered the F sport model, but almost all have black seats, not the best in 110 degree summers. A few mechanical problems with side mirrors, driver's seat memory(occasional). It took 4 years before a major problem: alternator went bad.

Unbelievable quality, put in Sport Mode for drivin

Intelpro, 02/01/2021

7 of 7 people found this review helpful

An LS 460 in enjoyable to own, and not like paying child support to a German luxury car. Want a better driving experience? Simply put the car into Sport Mode which changes shift points and firms the ride. With Michlin Pilots on the wheels, the sportiness is enhanced as well. These cars don’t break due to their unbelievable build quality. They are handsome cars with a ton of tech. The Base model alone is sufficient. In 45k miles, one brake job, one set of tires and oil changes. Nothing else. Previously had a 2008 ES 350 which was same experience. Loved a previous BMW 740i but it needed a short block replacement on the engine. A prior Mercedes E class wagon developed a suspension clunk which couldn’t be fixed. So, love the build quality of Lexus. Only downside is relying on rearview camera as turning around and seeing out the low slung rear window is difficult. Driving experience oh a highway is totally solid Sport Mode, Regular Mode or Eco Mode. Love this car and will continue to do so.

1970's full sized American car ride in this Lexus!

This car is amazing. I bought it 9-2018 with 9,000 miles at an incredible price and love it. Still have my old Tahoe (no issues at 152,000 miles) and bought this car for business trips. The 2017 LS460 is gorgeous, smooth riding, and certainly has enough get up and go for me. Whoever designed this car tried and was successful at getting it to look and feel like a 1960's-70's full size American car. The ride and feel reminds me of the old Ford LTD or Chevy Caprice but way more luxurious (and that's a good thing for me). I've never owned a car that exceeded the manufacturer's claim on fuel economy both in the city and on the interstate. The only issue with this car is that cruise control must be used on the highway to avoid far exceeding the speed limit!

This car is just plain perfect. It has the ride of a cruise ship on a lake. You don't feel anything, you don't hear any outside noise, nothing. You can't even tell that it's running at idle. The seats are butter soft, large and plush. The stereo is fabulous, the rear seats are fantastic. The level of fit and finish is just so far ahead of the pack that it's not even a race. I just came off of a Jaguar XJL and although it was a classy ride it was always in the shop. Buy this car and see what perfection feels like.....

You could get more car and technology for your money from Germans, but great reliability, good service from most Lexus dealers and pleasant ride swayed me to purchase 2nd LS460. That's continued 8 years of LS after previously owned S-class. I consider MB better vehicle though. Even A8 is more of a driver's car. Most dislikes in LS model: driver's seat brothering my right thigh, lack of handsfree trunk opening, no heads-up display. Likes: overall driving is "pampering" and comfortable for driver and passengers with pleasant interior, reliable, old school large displacement engine and well balanced rear drive feel.

Show-room clean, ceramic coated. This vehicle is the ideal automobile as a company car or for a family looking for a luxury vehicle. Seats five adults with ease and comfort, especially the extra rear -passenger leg room. The Mark Levinson sound system makes driving enjoyable and the smoothness of the ride makes it comfortable. You'll be drawn to drive it. Lexus is "the pursuit of perfection."

UPDATED REVIEW 3 service issues before 17kmiles

My 10,000 mile service took 3-1/2 hours at the dealership. At 12,300 Miles, I returned to the dealership - the transmission is whiny and there is an issue with the brakes making a clicking noise when you use them. Dealership told me all LS460s will have whining in the transmission....seriously? And the brake actuator had failed. This is a $75,000 car with 2 issues before 15,000 Miles. Dealer told me all the LS460 vehicles sound the same...but the car we took for a test drive didn’t sound like this. Now at 17,000 miles - just had to have the navigation system (which includes the radio) totally replaced. This is a $6,000 System and was covered by the warranty - but why did it need to be replaced? The navigation screen kept going blank when I would be driving the car. Was first told there was nothing wrong with it - then after leaving the dealership, received a call that it would be replaced. I have also some “cracking” of the metal trim on the rear of the car. Looks like wrinkles are forming in the metal. No idea what is causing this! I now have 38,000 miles on the car. The navigation system is shutting down again. Taking it to the dealer again. Also the leather on the armrest has a small crack that looks like a tear. I was told this happens on all Lexus vehicles (my husband also has a Lexus and his armrest is full of cracks - but his car is 16 years old so I would expect that), not on a 3 year old car.

It looks good; drives great and doesn’t give you any trouble. I’ve owned a Mercedes S-class, BMW 7-Series, and Audi A8. Great cars but the LS has been the best and the least headache. My 2015 has close to 150k and it drives like it has 20k on it. Nothing to do but oil/filter service. Basically just gas and drive and enjoy.

The ride is silky smooth.. It is like going into soundproof room....I owned GS-350 2013 prior which was fantastic,,but this is couple rings above that car.. Both cars I had the F-sport..I like the more sporty look and feel of the F-sport..Better trunk than the Gs-350 and 460 has motorized trunk opener...The trunk is not motorized in the GS-350 and most of them are broken and you must use a stick to keep up..Dealer told me not to fix it will just break again..Car is fast for being 4500 pounds..Got 26.5 mpg driving to San Francisco..Not fancy looking but best ride I have ever experienced ....Does not break like BMW or Mercedes......

Loved my 1998, thought upgrading to get new technology would be an improvement. But so many things have been disappointing. The navigation system is a disaster with the remote mouse. BMW/Mercedes/Audi iDrive like are much easier to use. Forget about voice control. Doesn't work. Keyless entry sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Impossible to debug because it is intermittent. Have the F Sport, where the front seats are very uncomfortable -- back is too narrow unless you're a very small person. Both BMW and Mercedes have adjustments. Lexus doesn't. Also so many features that the german cars have and Lexus doesn't in this flagship car- massage front seats, contour seats, self parking, surround cameras.

Overall this is a quality car for the money.Interior leather for front seats is second rate. The leather cracks after repeated and expected use.The info unit requires an interface that is too time consuming. The upscale wheels easily fill with brake dust looking dirty most of the time. Dependability has been excellent.

What happened to going in and buying a car and not spending several hours doing it. Now they have all these additional things they want to see you....extended warranty, interior protection, exterior protection. In my opinion, when these things are pushed in front of you to buy, it makes me think the product is not as good as it is advertised or they wouldn't have to sell all of these protectants.

I first started off with a 2008 LS 460 then got a 2011 LS 460 for some more and new technology then I got the newest and latest LS model of the 2017 year. Absolutely amazing in every aspect you look at it. I am a huge care enthusiast and couldn't love more the V8 power of any car ! This car punches greatly with its amazing power and its 8 speed unfeelable transmission and every material used is exceptional ! Nothing of cheap plastics found in like Mercedes or Cadillac or BMW, everything is either leather or a refined rubberized material for comfort. On my 2008 LS I put in 145k miles on it and only had to replace my brake actuator like all other LS models and my spark plugs but other than that nothing !

Lexus LS460 should not be ranked as "next to last" in class to be fair: it should rank last. As other reviewer noted, technology is totally hit or miss (usually it doesn't work--bluetooth connection with phone, navigation, voice commands, etc). Visibility quite poor for anyone over 6'. Uncomfortable seats. Dealer and manufacturer support non existent. This is not the Lexus of old.

I've had 4 Lexus LS460 over the years and have never had any problems. Have ridden in many other brand cars that friends drive and I find the Lexus to be the most comfortable and quiet. Definitely one of the best cars on the planet and they hold their value. I don't put a lot of miles on my cars so usually I can resell for a great price.

Regret the purchase, hate the car. Automatic braking hold makes the vehicle dangerous and complicated to operate safely.

Too Noisy/Prone to Sudden Stalling Hazard

Got a new LS460 AWD 2016 in 01/2016. Currently it has 43K miles. The interior has become very noisy & I was not able to hear even the radio. Whisper Wuiet!!! What a joke? The car began to stall while driving at low speeds & I gave the benefit of doubt to Lexus blaming my new shoes. But the stalling was noticeable & pronounced when I took a right turn to a steep hill road I was forced to press the accelerator with all my strength to move the car forward. It slowly crawled to the top of the hill. I thought it could slide backwards causing major accident. Very Scary. Lexus sees interior noise level is normal by manual hearing & refused to use decibel measurement meter. Very tricky mechanics. Lexus ran computer diagnostic tests & it found no problem. Vehicle is sitting in my driveway & I am using my pickup. I am scared to take legal U-turn on HWY as I could become a sitting duck. I am a Lexus Kamakazi driver.

I have owned three Lexus ES 350. All three of them were excellent cars. I now have a 2017 Lexus LS 460. It truly is a fantastic car. It rides extremely well. The interior is very luxurious. Of course, you have the Toyota/Lexus reliability. Buy one you will love it!!!
