18,000 mile review

My IS 250 now has 18,000 miles on the odometer. I previously reviewed the car at 11,000 miles. I have not had any further problems with the car and have taken it in for routine oil changes and maintenance only. I am pleased to report that at 18,000 miles the brake pads are still good and the original tires have plenty of tread left. I am getting an overall average of 27 mpg according to the onboard computer. On the highway the average gas mileage is 33 to 34.

Great car overall, I am a huge fan of electronic bells and whistles and this has them all (keyless ignition, doors open on sensors, etc.).

I’ve owned my Lexus for 14 years and I can honestly say it’s been the best car I’ve ever had. If it had more safety features like the new cars, I’d drive it for the next 14 years.

IS 250 Problems

The IS 250 has an insufficient AC system drain line that clogs and doesn't drain condensed water adequately. Water then drains to the passenger compartment where it can do extensive damage. The problem can manifest itself beyond warranty time frame (by 2k miles in my case) and Lexus offers only token support to remedy the design problem.

I've had my car for a month now and I still get compliments at work about my car everyday. I'm a female driver and I purchased the 6-spd manual trans model and I tell you, it's fun to drive it and a wonderful feeling to see people's expressions as I pass by them. They remind me everyday that I made the right choice.
