Major Engine Problems

I bought this article in 2017. It had around 50500 miles. My oi. Started .eating into the engine around 65000. I took it into the dealer for the engine recall. They patched it up and told me it was fixed. That was in May of 2021. I took it back to the dealer in June of 2021 because it was having trouble accelerating. They switched it out for $300. It's now August of 2021 and my checkengine light is back on. I am never buying another KIA.

I am a senior and this vehicle is easy to get into and out of. You set up high for better view out which is good except for out the rear corners. The fairly large mirrors and backup camera minimize this problem. The initial quality was very good(fit and finish). Vehicle was driven on a 3k mile trip of country roads and mountains from Oklahoma to North Carolina and was comfortable and fun to drive, averaged 31.2 mpg with two people and loaded.(4k miles) Car seems to get the best mileage if you stay at 70mph or less. A little bouncy on rough roads but cruises nicely on the open road. Steering is tight and brakes are good,a little touchy until you get used to them. Overall great car

I purchase a used 2014 Exclaim model; with all the extras. Test drove VW and a few others. It's a great value for the money! loaded with nice tech etc. Buy one at least a year old; it's worth it... RAS

What a great little car. I got the base model with the 6 speed manual transmission. The shifting is easy and the clutch engages nicely. I love the "hill holder" feature - car doesn't roll on a hill while you get going from a dead stop. There have been a couple of minor recalls on my car which the dealer has taken care of. Other than those, NOTHING has gone wrong with this car in 43,000 miles. The good is the gas mileage, I average about 35 miles per gallon. About half of my driving is under nearly ideal conditions for mileage, but the other half is stop and go. The bad is I have the 1.6 liter engine, just enough to keep up with traffic, but not much power to spare. The other weak point is when backing up, the rear visibility is not that good. The cabin is quiet at all speeds, the seats and ride are firm, but comfortable and the cornering and braking are great. Overall I would buy this car again. The low price, the long warranty (which I have not needed at all) and the quality make this car a winner. Review update 5/20/2021 My Soul now has 140,000 miles on it. Overall this has been a great car and for the cheap price I have had good reliability and I would buy it again. Since my last review I have had to replace the ignition coils ($1000 at the dealership). There have been no other breakdowns or problems and the car is running well. I'm still getting about 36 mpg on the highway when I drive gently and overall city/highway is about 32 mpg. Update: 11/2021 I'm now at 155,000 miles. For the initial purchase price of this car and the cost of repairs along the way I still think the car has been a great value. I'm still getting about 33 mpg on the highway which is where I do most of my driving. Here's what has gone wrong along the way over the years. - Ignition coils failed. Replaced all four of them at about $900.00 - I just had new tires put on, the second set I bought for this car. So the original tires and one set of new tires gave me 150,000 miles (75,000 miles per set) - Check engine light came on a few weeks ago and has now gone off. Car repair shop said the catalytic covertor is getting old and will need to be replaced soon, but don't worry until the light stay on all time. - There have been several recalls that were repaired at dealer expense. Steering pin replacement. Accelerator pedal replacement and a software upgrade for the engine. -Close to me, some dealers have their repair shops booked 2-3 weeks in advance so it is hard to get in. Meanwhile, another dealer farther away has appointments usually the next day, but it is a 40 mile drive. I still am pleased with this car as a commutor car. I can put the rear seats down and also haull small loads. I still think it is under powered, but with gas almost $5 a gallon I'd rather have the milage. Update - 11/30/2022 I'm now at 175,000 miles. The catalytic converter was about $1400. No other problems to report, still going strong. It still runs well with no sign of mechanical problems. The car is parked outside all the time and the clear coat finish has started to peel in a few places.

Recall notice "after the fact".

I got a recall notice 14 months after the engine caught fire while driving on the highway, I was lucky to get out of the car before it burst into flames, I called Kia corporation and they stated the engine fire was not the company's fault, these cars are not safe.
