Child safety lock design flaw is serious problem

Beware: The newer Kia Sorentos have an electronic child safety lock button instead of child safety locks that can be manually engaged and disengaged on each rear door. The electronic child safety lock is a design flaw that can give rise to serious safety issues. First, the child safety lock button becomes inoperable when the engine is turned off. Second, the electronic button locks both rear doors and both rear windows at the same time. So if you have a child in one rear seat and an adult in the other rear seat, you can only lock them both in or not have the child safety lock on either rear door. If you disengage the electronic child safety lock button to let the adult out, know that the child can also open his door. There is no way to activate a child safety lock on only one rear door. Each rear door has a visible manual switch labeled as a switch for activating the child safety lock, but the manual switch does not actually work; there is no way to activate the safety lock for just one rear door. If you need an effective child safety lock, you should understand the problematic limitations with Kia’s electronic child safety lock button before you purchase.

Wifey's New Ride

Traded in a beautiful Alfa Romeo Stelvio Lusso. That hurt. Just can't afford the maintenance on the Alfa. Plus it was too small. The Sorento solved both. Much roomier, with almost all the features she wanted. No heated steering wheel in the EX, and we opted to not have the moonroof. So far so good, love how it drives, love the gas mileage, the quietness and smoothness of the ride. Just enough punch to get you going and to pass, and drives as if it were smaller. Regular unleaded, and a great warranty. It's a head turner in our little town, hopefully it'll last 10 years or more.

We just completed a 7500mile drive across the country. This Kia was comfortable, pretty quiet, and drove like a dream. Great gas mileage. This is a fun car to drive for a three-seater. I like the exterior styling, all the electronics. As soon as figure them all out.

The performance is amazing! I was expecting a slower car that saves on gas, but I was pleasantly surprised that the response from the gas pedal is amazing. It definitely has some good acceleration. The comfort is great as well it’s so hard to beat these accessories at this price point. The interior is beyond comfortable and is considerably better compared to other cars like Toyota and Honda. Where you would need to get a higher trim with a considerably higher mileage rice tag.

Rocky start gives way to satisfying experience

2023 Kia Sorento Hybrid EX 4dr SUV AWD (1.6L 4cyl Turbo gas/electric hybrid 6A)

We leased our black 2023 Sorento EX AWD Hybrid (only color choice on the lot) on October 14th, 2023, despite its standard 3rd-row seat which we didn’t want because it takes up storage room and creates a higher load floor for our dogs to jump up on. I soon noticed that from-time-to-time when I turned the car, a mouse-like squeak emanated from the steering wheel. I recorded the squeak on my phone and took it to Paramount Kia in Asheville where we leased it to have it fixed. They wouldn’t accept my recording but made an appointment so their head tech could duplicate the noise, which thankfully he was able to duplicate with me in the front passenger seat. Unfortunately, Kia still wouldn’t accept his verification and asked that their Regional Tech come to Paramount Kia and verify, which he was able to do shortly thereafter; he then ordered a replacement steering column which was installed within a week. That new steering column fixed the noise problem, and I finally had possession of a defect-free 2023 Sorento on January 12, 2024, a 3-month long and very frustrating process. Since then the vehicle has performed flawlessly (I’m typing this review on July 24th, 2024) and we like it very much because it’s mostly quiet, comfortable, handles well and gets great gas mileage in combined city-highway driving—-37ish! I wrote “mostly quiet” because when driving up a steep hill or mountain, the power train is as noisy as my grandmother’s old sewing machine because Kia skimped on the sound insulation. I would add that the tech features and controls are not always intuitive, and took some time to figure out and get used to. Bottom line: It’s been a mostly satisfying, if not exciting, vehicle to drive, with the great mileage being the biggest delight! FYI: We liked it enough to lease a 2023 base model Sportage Hybrid on October 20th, 2023 (last hybrid on the lot—-in black only of course) and because it has the same drivetrain in s slightly smaller vehicle, it’s even more responsive and about as economical, plus with no 3rd row seat, a lower load floor for our dogs and only slightly smaller cabin/storage space; perhaps in 2026 we’ll lease two top of the line 2026 Sportage Plug-in Hybrids in blue and green?
