Impressed with Our Santa Fe!
We replaced a 2002 Toyota Highlander with the 2007 Santa Fe and have not regretted our choice. The new restyled Highlander would have been $8K more than the Santa Fe for the same features. The V6 powertrain on our Limited is smooth, quiet, and powerful and would make you think you are in a $50K Lexus. Overall features and quality appear to be top notch. Another family member has a 2003 Santa Fe (old body style) and has had a great experience. The only criticism is that the standard stereo (w/XM) on the Limited is somewhat weak, to get the upgraded Infiniti system you have to also get the rear entertainment system (DVD) which with no kids we don't need. Perhaps this is changed for 2008.
Great Ride
My husband drove a 2004 Santa Fe and I drove a 2003 Santa Fe. We have enjoyed the comfort and dependability of both our vehicles. I just got my new 2007 Santa Fe as a birthday gift -- WOW! It truly is a luxury ride. Several people have asked my what type car it is at the gas station. I would put it up against any of those higher priced luxury rides any day.

Poor mileage, many small problems
Poor gas mileage, sticker showed 19/25. I am getting 17/19. No interior light in drivers compartment. Battery dead if i let it set for 3 days. Drivers wiper fell off in snow storm on Interstate 95.I have to take it in this week to have it aligned, all four tire worn. (18000 miles on it.I have to pay for this myself, it is not covered under warranty. Dealer has been nice. This is a real DAH DUH vehicle. I have called Hyundai and could not get any satisfaction. Check 5 year 100000 mile warranty before you buy.
is it a lemon?
1.5 months of ownership (2500 miles) the car broke down on the road. Due to the lack of parts the repair took 2 weeks (3cat converters and 2 O2 sensors). Two weeks later the car broke down again this time it was a computer module and a disconected wire. While driving car home from the dealer I noticed that the engine noise was so loud the I could not hear the radio. It is now back at the dealer waiting for repair for the 3rd time.
Love it
Almost at 1000 miles and loving every minute of it. We just had a bad snow storm here and this car didnt slip once while driving.
2008 Hyundai Santa Fe - Great Value
My wife and I spent 2-3 months researching the purchase of a new vehicle to replace our worn-out Dodge Caravan minivan. Final decision came down to the Santa Fe and Toyota Rav4. The Santa Fe won primarily on the greater "bang for our buck", the Rav4 interior felt cheap compared to the Santa Fe. The Santa Fe has more than adequate power. The ride is smooth and quiet. The interior is well thought out and comfortable. The exterior styling is attractive, but not "over- done". This vehicle is a pleasure to drive. I will have to see how reliability will be over time, but Hyundai's great warranty helps with piece of mind in that area.
I WILL NEVER BUY HYUNDAI AGAIN!!!!!
Having previously owned a 2003 Santa Fe, when the new 2007 came out I had to have one. It was the biggest mistake I have ever made. Hyundai Motor America has been completely uncooperative in regards to warranty issues. Hyundai may offer a great warranty but don't be fooled. I was sold a lemon! The car has been in the shop EIGHT times since we bought it nine months ago. The car had a faulty engine coil, misfiring in the 5th cylinder (4 times), entire fuel system malfunction, improperly installed computer software and finally two bad oxygen sensors. We are so fed up that we are now selling the 2003 because we just need to cut all ties with Hyundai. Buyer beware!
2007 Hyundai Santa Fe FWD Limited
Purchased this vehicle two weeks ago for my wife. She and I both love it. We had a power seat switch fail within a week, but the dealership addressed it quickly. Power is good with the 3.3L. The 2.7L would not be enough. Turns tight, quiet on the road. Seats have enough adjustability to be comfortable. Good leg room in 2nd row.
Too Early to Tell
I purchased this vehicle because I really like the new body style on the 07. I looked at all the other comparable SUV's and thought I would take a chance on the Santa Fe because of the warranty. Really nice ride compared to my old Rav 4. Not too big but just right for my family of 4. I do alot of road mileage and am getting approx 24 MPG as stated for highway and 22 combined driving.
Great so far
Just purchased new 07 Fe. Love the styling, interior space, and the smooth confident power of the 3.3 V6. Handles well with little body roll. Vehicle would be perfect if not for a squeaking noise in the passenger dash area and passenger seat (both showed up at about 250 mile). Service is working with Hyundai to find repair. I would totally recommend this vehicle!!
Silky Smooth Santa Fe!
We recently purchased a 2007 Santa Fe Limited to replace our Toyota Camry and my wife absolutely love it. We had spent almost ten months of research test driving almost everything from Accord, Camry, Sonata, Highlander, Rav4, CR- V, Explorer, Escape, etc. The ride is silky smooth and is very quiet. Quality touches abound throughout and we are also impressed by how well it absorbs road imperfections and the comfortable leather seats. My wife really enjoys all the saftey features that come standard and the oodles of storage space that this SUV has. So far average fuel economy is 22 mpg. This vehicle is miles ahead of the Rav4. Well done Hyundai.
Great Vehicle*** Few Small Issues
I am very happy with my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. I do wish I had waited until it had been out longer so I could have gotten the included XM radio and so my husband could have gotten automatic map lights (the lack of which drives him crazy; me, not so much). I have noticed that the wind noise is greatly increased since my test drive, otherwise the ride is great. Also, the leather seats are too hard for most people. My hubby hates them and even my 11-year-old little sister commented on them as soon as she got in the vehicle. However, when you drive the vehicle everyday, the seats are fine. Just depends on what you're used to.
Poor mans Lexus or smart mans Lexus?
This new 07 Santa Fe will never be confused with previous years Santa Fe's. With it's upscale styling and car like ride this cross over vehicle offers many standard features you wouldn't expect in a Hyundai. My neighbor asked if I just bought a Lexus when I pulled my new Santa Fe into my driveway. He was shocked when I told him it was a Hyundai. The milage figres listed are 19 city & 24 highway. To date, my milage has been less. The owners manual suggested after 1200 miles the motor will be broken in so to speak. I'm hoping for better gas milage down the road. I would suggest anyone looking for a mid sized SUV to seriously consider th 07 Santa Fe.
Sante Fe
Purchased my Santa Fe last week and have loved it. Only issue is the add on RES DVD player has display issue, but dealer wants me to bring in and says he will even pay for my gas. You cannot get better service!!!
We are IMPRESSED
The exterior design is eye-catching and attractive. The insrumentation is easy to learn and easy to read. The brakes feel good. All of the doors sound 'solid and secure' when they are closed. It handles very nicely, and easier to park than our old Tahoe. Time will tell of the reliability.
STAY AWAY!
My first "new" car & I have had nothing but issues. I bought it used with 15k. I have had it less than 3 years now & have had to replace the tires 4 times & have to get an alignment every 4 months...I only do hwy driving! My catalytic converters just went out at $1300 a piece & I only have 60k on the car....thank god for the federal law that is making them replace it. I always have issues with the sensors, car doesn't start in the cold & nuts & bolts seem to always fall off of it. I am on my way to pick up my car from the shop (97 miles away) & am going to trade it in on something that is NOT a HYUNDAI!
Second go-around...not bad..
Just bought my second Santa Fe; I traded in my 2002 GLS Model. Very pleased with how much smoother the 2007 rides and how much bigger it is in size; third row seat is a nice option. A little disappointed with the gas mileage, though; it's not anywhere near what's listed, but I'm still breaking it in. I think Hyundai makes a great product overall--never had a problem with my 2002.
Dream Car
I have had many new cars over the years and this one is right at the top of the list. It is so much fun to drive, that I almost hate to arrive at my destination. The handling, quietness, & power are above expectations. Gas mileage is better than I expected averaging over 23. I do baby it though and a lot of it has been highway miles.
The best bang for the buck to date
First, thank you Edmunds.com for your awesome video review on this vehicle. I watched it and went directly to the nearest dealer and test drove it. I was so impressed with the look and overall quality of the car, that I bought it on the spot. We got an 07 Ltd with just a sun roof, white pearl paint, and floor mats as options. The list of standard features is so long and impressive that I was blown away. This vehicle is built very well too. It feels as tight and handles as well as my old ML 430. It's got a wonderful solid feel on the road. The turning radius is amazing. The creature comforts are beyond good. I am still in shock that a vehicle this nice can be sold for this price. AWESOME!!!
The new hyundai
This is a beautiful vehicle inside and out. The fit and trim inside is very good and the leather quality is awesome. If Hyundai can get people to take a test drive, they will have no problem selling as many as they can make-Drive it and you will buy it!
Thank you Hyundai!
I have owned three Hyundais and I recently purchased an 07 Santa Fe Limited. On February 4, 2007 I wrote a negative review on this website and I am writing this as an update and amendment. Hyundai truly cares about their customers! After some determination I found a way to contact the right people within Hyundai corporate. They have rectified the situation to my satisfaction. They have also gone above and beyond the call of duty to make me fill like part of the Hyundai family. I went from being a very unhappy costumer to a loyal customer for life. Hyundais are very reliable and they rarely have problems but it is good to know that if something does arise, with a little determinat
quality of paint coat
I have a 1996 Ford Taurus with 155000 miles on it and a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with 15000 miles on it. Both cars are driven on similar roads most of the time. The Taurus has scratches on the body but no rust spots whereas the where ever there are scratches on the Hyundai, it starts to rust. This is a major problem with this SUV.
the best SUV choice on the market!
I tested Honda CRV and Toyota RAV 4 before I tested the 2007 Santa Fe. What a sharp contrast: the Santa Fe had better interior and exterior design and better build quality. I have already put 65,000 kms on this SUV, not a single problem has been noticed. Last year, Vancouver BC had the worst snow in 4 decades, my Santa Fe was fabulous in snow, and brought me to almost every where without difficulty. Besides the quality and design, keep in mind, this model has won top safety award in the US. Many people actually don't know that this model was designed by the global top engineers. The chief designer who designed Santa Fe now is the chief designer for Mercedes Benz in North America!
Not What I Thought? Confused
Lots of inner noise - sqeeks when hitting bumps. Auto lights feature doesn't always work correctly. Some of the noise come from the CHEAP Brigestone Dueller 2 tires on the vehicle - would definitely change to Michelans or Good Year Eagles
What a Car!
Love this car overall. Drives really well. Gets about 24 mpg. Have had no problems with it. Hyundai dealership has been exceptionally nice to deal with.
Dissapointed!
I bought the car new in November 2007. Having high hopes this would be the last car I would have to buy for a long time. I had the car in for the 15,000 mile maintenance in July 2009 and mentioned it had started making a roaring noise, more prevalent at lower speeds. I was told it was tire noise and the tires were feathering. I have had the tires rotated at the specified times why would they feather? If they are feathering at 15,000 miles something's wrong! I have not been able to get any results from Hyundai as to the real problem. The car is also downshifting hard at 30 miles when coming to a stop. I don't think I'll be buying any make, model or type of Hyundai again.
Very Pleased
Having owned this vehicle almost 2 years I can say that it is one impressive vehicle. I was skeptical at first about buying a Hyundai but I'm glad I did. The car has held up extremely well and there are no issues whatsoever. I drove the Rav4, CR-V, Vue, CX-7, and Murano before deciding on the Santa Fe and do not regret it to this day. A deer ran out in front of me one night not too long ago and had to replace the front bumper, driver side headlamp, driver front fender and various components. Though insurance covered it the total cost was close to $5,000.00, it is not a very cheap vehicle to repair if ever in a minor accident.
So Many Problems!
I have had 2 coil packs go bad. 2 oxygen sensors go bad. Twice they had to replace the front sway bars and it sounds like they need replaced again. The right front hub was replaced and now I have a clunking noise when it is down shifting, shifting up from 1st to 2nd and also it happens in reverse. I currently have 63000 miles. 40000 hwy. I bought it for the style and I had a couple other Hyundai's so I thought it would be good quality. I don't know if mine was made on a Friday when they wanted to leave early for the weekend and rushed the job, but I'm hoping Hyundai will do something about my continued problems with it. We'll see.
Hyundai Doing It Right Now
A former 05 Santa Fe owner, my 07 Limited SF is a major improvement. Impressive interior, greater driver visibility, smooth ride, excellent turning ratio, and all the goodies included. Truly a highway ride joy. Bought the Ebony Black and it gets many head turners. How do they do it at the price? - Before u buy Honda or Toyota, check it out. Unbeatable warranty too!
In the service shop all the time
My car has rattled in the back end and I was told at 20,000 miles I need two new struts. This did not solve the problem and I still have the rattle. I also have had my check engine light on several times and the last time it was blinking. I have had the fuel pump replaced in it also. I had to have knew tires at 22,000 miles because it was out of lined. I bought the car with 8000 miles on it and I feel that this was a damaged program car! I love the car, the room it has in it, and my sun roof, but have been unhappy with it breaking down all the time!
tire towing problems
There is a definite front tire alignment defect on this vehicle. The tire warranty is bogus since no tire store will pro-rate remainder of warranty claiming it is from hitting too many potholes.
Look for something else!!!
I bought this vehicle almost totally based on looks then the problems started i put a new transmission in it at 22,000 KM then i got it towed to Saskatoon cause the speedometer was bouncing up and down and the check engine light came on got it there and they said nothing was wrong then the found that the brain was not working they replaced that then the sunroof started to leak so they replaced that after they did that it leaked worse now they say there is nothing they can do to fix it then i broke down on my way to Edmonton the fuel control throttle went on it and they had it for about a week to fix that i have had nothing but problems i talked to Hyundai Canada and they won't do anything!!
Little, nagging problems
I love the look and style of my Sante Fe, hate the poor mileage, and have had a series of different, nagging little problems (related to assembly/quality, affecting safety) that have it in the shop WAY too frequently for a new car that is supposed to rival Honda/Toyota quality! The biggest issue is that the turn signal switch stopped working reliably after about 4 months, and the dealer has not yet been able to fix the problem after 3 tries/3 months - it's very dangerous to suddenly find onself unable to signal a turn/lane change, particularly in poor weather! Also, seat belt tensioners in the second row were not installed properly, and did not work at all. Fun to drive, when it's working!
This really is a great suv
I have had this car less than a week, and I love it. I owned two CRV's prior to this. Even though I had confidence in the quality Honda provides, the loud interior noise was getting to me and I was tired of waiting for the "new" 2007 honda crv to find out if the cabin noise had improved. The santa fe is more of a luxury feeling car. It's smooth and quiet. I purchased the 3.3 litre with front wheel drive.
We Love Our Santa Fe
Traded a Mazda mvp van for the Santa Fe... White... Se model. For the price.. You get a lot for your money. Great style and a great smooth ride. We have 18 in tires which helps. Controls inside are easy to use and easy to find which my wife likes a lot. Our highway mileage on interstates driving to Florida is about 22 - 23 miles per gallon... Less of course around town. But we love the Santa Fe and are impressed by it. We chose the 6 cylinder for added power. This suv also has 6 air bags and a great safety rating. Would we get another one... Absolutely.
The Right Choice
Went looking for a Suburu and wound up with a 07 Santa Fe. Couldn't be happier. Roomy, plenty of power, gas mileage around 21, versitile, the best warranty in America, and around $7000 less than a comperably equiped Pilot. What's not to love.
Hyundai is #1
I love the car. It looks and drives very well. Loaded with power seats and DVD player is only 32,000! That's good compared to Honda Pilot or even Acura MDX.
Big Surprise
Never thought I would own a Hyundai but thought I might look at End-of-Year deals on 2006 model. Brand new 2007 still in srink wrap caught my eye. The 2007s arrived the day before so I got to try one. Bought it the next day. Loved it ever since. Tried Honda CRV (Too noisy, slow and cheap looking) and Pilot (nice, but pricy and a bit too big). If Hyundai proves reliable over time, then Watch Out Honda! There's a new game afoot. My eldest daughter(37) thought it was a new Acura SUV. My youngest daughter(25) wanted to go out and replace her 2005 Santa Fe immediately.
So what gives with the gas mileage?
Purchased car used with 17K miles from dealer. Reading was 20.1 mpg, drove it home and mpg began to drop immediately. Went as low as 12.8 but then had problem with 02 sensor. Dealer said that mileage would improve after replacement. It got a little better, now back up to 15.1, city.On trips to Tahoe the best mpg was 18. Overall, I like the car but given the times, one can't make buying decisions on cars w/o taking mpg into account. I would never have bought this car if I'd known what the true mileage would be. I think that all of the disclaimers given by both the dealers and the feds are outrageous. A consumer should be entitled to minimal expectations for such a critical feature.
this is my 2nd Santa Fe & I love it!
I wish the DVD controls were located somewhere else.they get kicked alot. the light interior looks nice, but is not kid-friendly.I really love my Santa Fe.The '07 is so much more luxurious than my previous '01.I like my Santa Fe better than my husband's BMW 325i. We always take my Santa Fe on roadtrips, not the BMW. I love the space, the drive, the warranty, the look & I feel smart driving it. It's a good bang for the buck! There's only 1 Santa Fe to choose: Limited & fully loaded. i didn't like the bare bones models. Bite the bullet & spend the $32K for the top of the line Santa Fe.
A/C Problems
Bought the Santa Fe in Nov. '07 and all was great. When the weather started to warm up and we used the A/C it would only work when it wanted too. Took it in to the dealer and they couldn't guarantee that they had fixed it. Have had it in six times and they still can't find the source of the problem. On the fifth time they kept it for almost one month. The sixth time was last week, picked it up and within one hour the A/C wouldn't work. Have been in contact with Hyundai about a replacement car since this one now falls under the category of a lemon but they have been slow to respond. Other than the A/C problem the car is great.
2007 Santa Fe Limited = Luxury for Less!
The new 2007 Santa Fe is a great value! It is loaded with standard features, has great looks inside and out, a ton of safety features, 5 star crash test ratings, super competitive pricing, and a superb warranty. Driving this vehicle is is oure joy and I look for every excuse to drive it. We test drove CR-V, Matirx, RAV4, Pilot, Element, and others. No comparison - we bought the Santa Fe!
Satisfied
My first try with a Hyundai. Live in NE and wanted a 4-WD. Expected fair value at best but very suprised. Happy with overall performance. A real tank in the snow. Unstoppable. Even my hwy mileage is at 26 mph. (better than book} Need 6 CD player and GPS next time. Front hood slightly overextended. Needs better map lighting.
Owned for 3 years
We have owned our SanteFe XL AWD for nearly 3 years now with 21,500 miles. Still a great vehicle for us and plan to keep for another year. When bought new it was a hands down choice vs Highlander, Pilot, the Mazdas, Nissans or Subarus. Leather & interior has held up very well, outside finish has held up very well. No squeaks or rattles, still a quiet cabin and same good ride and you set up high. One problem, mirror with remote garage door opener died, fixed in one day at dealership. In Denver are we have averaged 20 mpg with 65% in town short trips. Best 25 on mountain interstate driving, worst about 16 oi short trips cold/snow driving. Brakes and tires holding up well
Gotta love this ride!
I had a 2006 Tucsan, and really had no problems with that vehicle. When I was researching the Tucsan,in January, 2006, I saw that the Santa fe was being redesigned and would be out in the summer. I liked it, but didn't want to wait. Well, I love the Tucsan, but test drove the Santa Fe, and I was hooked. I was fortunate enough to pay cash for the Tucsan, and did not lose much on the trade in. So, I got a very luxurious car, and a very small payment. I love this SUV. It is beautiful, and the ride is sweet!
My third Santa Fe
I have owned 3 Santa Fe's and would buy another if they keep improving. I purchased the 2007 last May and drove it to California and back in June. The ride was fine, gas mileage was and still is 22 in city and highway. The only problem that I had was a blow out in Colorado. Try finding a 17 inch tire on a Saturday morning. I am now stuck with a top of the line Michelin that had to be replaced by the stock tire for the vehicle when I got home. I would recommend Hyundai vehicles to any one.
Surprise Vehicle
I looked at and drove many SUVs before I decided to drive a Santa Fe. Features that I thought were missing on other SUVs were standard on the SE such as day/night mirror, trip computer, CD/MP3 player, and a V6 engine. I originally was not looking at a Santa Fe because the previous design was not appealing to me at all. I only thought of driving the Santa Fe after test driving a Chevy Equinox at a dealership right next to a Hyundai dealership. I must say it was the best thing I could have done. The exterior redesign makes the new 2007 Santa Fe's a very attractive SUV. The interior design is not cluttered and very usable. Hyundai is certainly doing well in their assault on Toyota.
Hyundai is the Honda of 2008
The Hyundai Santa Fe is a wonderful compact SUV, that drives like a car, but is extremely versatile. My SF has 3rd row seats so that I can seat up to 7 passengers, unbelievable! Also, if I have 2 with car seats and one older child I can put one car seat in the back and still have the other backseat down (split folding seats in the 3rd row) which is great for cargo. This vehicle is smooth and the interior is beautiful. The industrial design of the interior is so much better then the cheap plastic of Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV. The interior is very classy and the V6 engine is powerful yet gas efficient. I have 12k miles on my 2007 SF and am getting 24 mpg per tank on 50% hwy & 50% city drivin
Enjoying the ride!
I am enjoying my Santa Fe. It is a cute car, fun to drive and great on the highway! Gas mileage is way off - got 20.5 mpg highway 16+/- mpg city. Better gas mileage than my 1999 Pathfinder was a priority when I was looking - don't think I found it. Otherwise, I got a lot more than I would have for the price.
Six Month Report A Winner
We selected the Limited for the package creature comforts. I made my decision based on comfort for my 6'4" height. Have found the ride smooth yet agile, and braking response is excellent. Interior has good ergonomic display, the fit and finish is rich rivaling many upscale players in this market. We chose not to have third row seating, rather have the ample storge, including the hidden compartment in back. Selecting platinum sage paint with grey leather allows the vehicle to stay cooler in the heat of summer. Tinted rear glass helps for both security and interior temps. Observing an average 22-24 mpg we are pleased with the fuel economy. At six months one word: Awesome.
