Used 2017 Honda Ridgeline Consumer Reviews
it's wide! Wider than my Tacoma
It's really wide compared to Tacoma. I needed a truck to be more compact for historic city driving and parking and I was more focused on the length than thinking of the width when I bought it. Now that I have it, I realize that the extra few inches make a big difference. While it adds to comfort, it makes driving narrow streets and parking more difficult. Also with all that width it would seem like honda could have fit more storage nooks into the rear door panels. Overall it's a nice truck and has a great ride and I was suprised at how fast it accelerates compared to tacoma. While I got the highest trim level, I'm disappointed in some of the material quality (although I also own 2 BMW's and an Acura - so i may be a little spoiled by them). Another complaint is the arm rest set up - I miss a full size console.

Ridgeline or Tacoma?
The Ridgeline is a little quirky looking. Kind of SUV with a truck bed but it is very practical with all of its features. Example- I will get much more use out of AWD then I ever would out of 4 WD.

Sweet & simple, Works & hauls like my old Tacoma
Truck bed needs better rails to accommodate racks, (rails are angled underneath and need to be squared to fit standard bed accessories) different or additional tie down configurations. Sliding rear window needs to be available across all the trim levels. Cup holders in the doors need to be deeper, water bottles keep flopping around when you drive. Heated seats need to be on a timmer to shut off after a extended amount of time, plus they don't really get that warm to begin with-(but I do have seat covers) you can barely tell they work. AWD needs more ground clearance (I added a 1.5” front and .5” rear lift kit) for extra assurance on those rough dirt roads (like my old Tacoma prerunner). I do love the smooth and quieter ride than my 15 year old Tacoma. Visabilty is great. Love the two way tailgate and trunk. Oil filter is in a poor location for regular maintenance. I had power steering cooler leak and a bad front bumper sensor, both covered under warranty. Better gas mileage than my Tacoma, almost 25mpg on last trip. I love the rear flip up seats to haul extra stuff (to keep locked up and out of bed). Tailgate handle needs a lock like other trucks. Update: Just under 50,000 miles and my Ridgeline developed a oil leak at the oil filter housing. Oil leaks all over the oil filter housing and the inner CV boot which needs to be cleaned at every oil change. After doing some research online it turns out this is a common problem with Honda V6’s used in the Ridgeline, Van and some Accords (I believe). Come on Honda you know this is a bad design or common problem why hasn’t there been a fix? The only oil leak I developed on my Tacoma after 100,000 miles was a rubber cam plug on cylinder head which was fix with a little sealer. So the “O” ring style gasket for oil filter housing needs to replace soon before it starts making a bigger mess all over the engine and drive way.

Should have studied it more
I have bought more than ten new Accords and Fits and always been please completely. Buying the Ridgeline was a mistake I made. It seems to me to be mostly plastic and not designed with the owner in mind. The engine has a timing belt rather than a chain which will require substantial cost in the future if I keep it which I probably will not. The engine is covered with a shield that is secured with rubber grommets that came off and went flying when I removed it. It was difficult to reinstall. The bed is slanted such that it holds moisture and dust. It is difficult to get in and out of the drivers seat. The view out the back window is restricted by the head rests. The road noise is more than any vehicle I have owned but I understand some think this is from the Firestone tires. The ride seems floaty like being in a boat. I thought I was buying a Honda truck but instead got a Honda car with a partial truck bed that seems to not be designed by the Honda engineers that structure the cars. The bells and whistles are far too many and seem to be added in some cases because they could be rather than being needed. The instructions of using them take time to comprehend. The selection was my fault for having owned many Hondas in the past and never having to investigate the quality of any of them. Study the vehicle in depth before buying and you may be very pleased but as it is different so do not assume it is like prior Honda vehicles you may have owned.
