50 years on another Civic

My Civic history goes back 50 years to a new 1976 Hatch CVCC, I also had an '80 and '83 of that generation. New baby, low income at the time, long commute, dependable were key considerations. 40 years go by and I got the next Honda - a 2024 ST Hatch last January after "growing up" and selling my Golf "R". I was disappointed with the driving dynamic and CVT after the Golf R manual. I tested the ST hybrid in November and was amazed by the difference that 20 hp and 50 lb-ft of torque and the difference in "transmission" with the electric motor makes. Amazing! Otherwise its the same great CIvic. Nits are the passenger seat position, stock tires, absence of homelink and SXM. I've adapted and accepted the later two. I'll upgrade the tires after I get a year or so out of them. That will improve handling further and maybe the road noise. Passengers will not notice the seating. I'll get a little towel for lumbar support. I paid sticker for the 2024 ST Hatch - $32,500. I was able to work a negotiated $3,000 off sticker for the hybrid in mid December - at $31,045 this is a steal.

Fun to drive, gas mileage, great dash and all controls, comfy seats, decent stereo Road noise but not a deal breaker (put on quiet tires) Gas and oil changes is all it needs plus 4 winter tires for canada winters

I traded in a 2017 CR-V Touring because it was cheaper to trade and get a warranty than to fix my previous car. I got the Sport trim. Of course I lost features and I do honestly wish the Civic had them. Although it's a brand new car I still worry constantly because I said I wouldn't buy another Honda. I do however go to a dealership I trust over anyone so I'm a little more at ease. I actually won't go into detail yet until I get 5,000 miles on it. Currently a little under 1,000 on it. Updated February 1, 2025: I am not super happy about the purchase as the new has worn off and Honda is showing their non-reliablity once again with an issue I feel I shouldn't be having. I'll be getting with the dealership as soon as I can to see if what is happening is normal but I believe it's the transmission acting up. Also the dealership is a good one from what I've heard but the price of the car was $3,000 more (you know added on things like tint, floor mats, trunk tray and the film protection) which the film protection is peeling off and it's the door edge guards and the door handle cups have bubbles in the rear ones with dirt under it. My salesman said to bring it in to be fixed 🙄😒. I honestly should have shelled out the money to fix my previous car but hey..., you learn from mistakes.

50 mpg with in town driving is legit. Very smooth ride, handles well with plenty of power 200hp/3208 lbs curb weight. Sweet bose stereo and nice interior. 5 stars.

The perfect Hybrid

This new Civic Sport Hybrid is hands down the best car I have ever owned. I’ve owned Lexus, Audi, BMW and Subaru and none of these vehicles came close to being as satisfying to drive and own. It was a breath of fresh air to buy a new vehicle that has the right amount of tech and performance wrapped into such a good package with the Civic Sport Hybrid. I was apprehensive at first about buying a hybrid but it all melted away once I drove the Civic. The effortless acceleration and nimble handling makes it feel like a much more expensive vehicle. The hybrid powertrain is smooth as glass and the transition from electric to gas or both yields no negative feedback during driving. The fuel economy of the vehicle is extremely good, no complaints there. The small amount of road noise is bearable and not a deal breaker. If you are on the fence about buying a Civic Hybrid, just do it! You won’t be sorry…
