2016 Honda Civic EX-T 2dr Coupe (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

This car could be great, but I have had constant computer and electrical issues as well as problems with the third brake light housing coming down within the first week of purchase. I have found, per my dealership, that every coupe with a third brake light has the housing coming down. The electrical issues included the passenger window and sunroof not working randomly. The display would stop working for several minutes at a time, beeping constantly during this period. I have had multiple computer updates and this car had been in the shop for over 30 days total. The basic response from the dealership was, "That's what you get for buying the first year of a new vehicle." Update: After 2 years of ownership and multiple electrical issues, I finally traded it in for a 2018 Si. It was still having USB issues, and two weeks before I traded it in, the entire computer went black for about 10 seconds. I was over it at that point.

Great value for a car

It was not that hard to make decision to buy this car. This is our third Honda. Being the car of the year was also an incentive. We also looked into the WV Passat but the reliability issue of the European car was the thing that steered us back to this car. With that said we had this car for almost six months now. It ran flawlessly. There was some issue with the torsional cable in the trunk that came loose and it was an easy fix with a wire-tie. The tire pressure sensor alerted and had to re-calibrate couple times with that touch screen. Nothing major. The car drove nice and sure foot. Turbo is preppy. Not as nice and powerful like our ten years old V6 Accord but it was nice for the money spent. The car has nice curve and look. Some people don't like bulky rear but I think it look OK. I usually hand wash my car during summer and I do notice that the fit near the rear tires and passenger door are not that well made. I had to pop the body panel back in. Look like they need better glue or rivet to hold it in place. Inside cabin has very nice material and fit compare to my Accord. We got 35MPG so far with this car. Haven't driven on HW that much...may be less than 20%. All in all this is a value buy. If this car's Turbo engine and CVT lasted us ten years then it will be a good buy. If not we will have to switch brand or not buy a car with CVT again. We paid $23K ($20.5K for the car + Taxes + finance) total.

Air Conditioning

2016 Honda Civic EX 4dr Sedan w/Honda Sensing (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

I have owned Hondas for approximately 29 years and have never had a problem with the air conditioning. I bought my 2016 Honda new in 2016. In September 2018, the a/c started blowing hot air. Even though I contacted Honda Corporation, case opened. I had to pay approximately $444 for "low side seal, evacuate and recharge system." In July 2019, the a/c is again blowing hot air. Dealer "Replaced a/c compressor an recharged system." Cost to me $1740. In June 2020, again a/c blowing hot air. Dealer "replaced the leaking a/c condensor assy and evacuated and recharged the a/c system." No charge to me as condenser was "recalled." In July 2021, the a/c is again blowing hot air. Dealer diagnosed that I need a new compressor. Called Honda Corporate. As of today, July 17, 2021, still waiting for a return call from a case manager. This is a Honda problem that they are not willing to admit to or cover for consumers. Note: Given 1 star only because a star had to be chosen to submit review.

Best Civic Coupe ever

Samuel Newman, 05/09/2016
2016 Honda Civic EX-L 2dr Coupe (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

Pros: - great MPG, mine average is 37 for NYC-NJ-LI; - coupe looks very good - people are still staring and asking about the car; - acceleration, especially in Sport mode; - fun to drive. Cons: - constant issues with Android Auto on Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - I'm an IT guy and still can't make it work properly. - CVT is not smooth. When I slow down fast almost to stop and then release brake (mostly in traffic) - feels like stroke in CVT. Audi's 1.8T 2004 CVT feels much better that Civic 1.5T 2016 - manual front seats for EX-L? come on, it's 2016

Best Civic Since 2000

I grew up in the 90's. Saw lot's of Civics during that time and to date, my best car was my standard transmission 94 Civic EX coupe. I love that car. drove it up to 200k miles, but needed something more reliable. However, by time I got rid of it, it was during Honda's "I don't care what the civic's look like" era. Yes, the civic has always been reliable and efficient car, but I am not just about efficiency. I don't want a bland looking car. I want something that actually looks great. So that being said, I have not bought nor even considered a Civic for over 15 years. Then I saw a teaser picture for the 2016 Civic and thought it was too good to be true. I mean, how many concept cars actually look like the care on the lot. But to my surprise, It looked amazing. I waited no time nor asked my wife to buy one. I bought an EX-T because I wanted the 1.5 turbo. The pick up is strong. It handles great. I like to drive in s mode for the acceleration and since gas is cheap right now, why not? It's very spacious. Almost as big as the 07 accord models. I don't care for leather, but even my cloth seats have heated seats. Navigation has never been a huge selling point for me. I have a iphone. And now with apple car play, I have navigation on my display, so why pay the extra for it. the only thing it did not have that I wanted was LED headlights, but I had those installed asap and matching fog lights. My only two complaints are 1) road noise and 2) the climate controls. I don't like having to have to hit a separate display for climate on my touch screen. I'd rather have separate knobs. As for road noise, Honda has never had the best luck with that. They all have seemed loud. I never really cared until I got married because I had my radio up so loud that I never heard it. But now, since I have to talk with my wife on road trips, I notice it greatly.
