Better Than I Expected

Have owned this car from day one and has proved to be a very functional, practical vehicle. It also has a nice smooth ride and most surprisngly very reliable. Other than normal oil & filter changes, the only thing I've had to replace was the rear brake pads at 25k miles which Ford covered anyway. Just replaced the original Continental ContiTact tires with General Altimax tires which seem to fit well with this car. So overall, no complaints and hope to keep for another 5 years.

0-60 in 8.3 seconds - No Problem Here!

Great vehicle. Gas mileage is incredible for a large vehicle that it is (4,000 lbs). I get 27 MPG all the time in 20% city / 80% highway driving. Traction control works great on ice/snow. Everybody says it can use more horsepower, but experts have timed it at 8.3 seconds to 60 mph -- not bad. The CVT transmission is a dream, nothing but smooth and continuous, especially nice up/down hills. Try to get this package in any other vehicle, as even smaller Subaru's get worse or the same gas mileage and they don't carry near as much. And the crash rating is great.

Real World 1yr Review

leeman, 10/11/2005
2005 Ford Freestyle Limited AWD 4dr Wagon (3.0L 6cyl CVT)

I never liked the straight 9s and 10s in most reviews, as no car is perfect or even near perfect. This is a real world 1 year of ownership review. This vehicle should make most minivan owners extremely happy with its space, performance & lack of stigma. The Freestyle should also make SUV drivers that don't use their SUVs as off road vehicles happy since performance is better and in most cases there is more space. This vehicle has been fantastic in its first year with no hint of my experience souring. I have traveled with 2 adults, 3 kids, 2 dogs for a 2 week vacation. Granted I had to use a cargo bag as the kids are still small & require more stuff. Drove great & fuel economy was an A+.

2005 Ford Freestyle AWD

I purchased my Freestyle used in 2008 with 32k miles. The CVT is smooth but takes some getting used to. Low end torque is lacking but a wide-open throttle command at highway speed reveals the hidden upper-rpm power. The interior is average but adequate; but not the most comfortable ride for long hauls (400 miles or more). Reliability is another strong point.
