Power Stroke Diesel = Problems
Drives great, tows and has enough power. However- nothing but problems with the Turbo Diesel. Had it 2 1/2 years, and in that time it has had major engine problems at least 3 times. The Turbo went out. The "viens" in the diesel colapsed. The # 6 injector failed completely while on a trip, towing a trailer. Had to get it towed from the "middle of nowhere" to the dealer to fix. Under warranty, had a deductable of $100.00. After that, they covered the cost. BUT that did not cover the tow, and it did not instill any confidence for our next trip. Not sure, but if one more thing happens, it's gonna get traded in for a Dodge. Not at all happy with the diesel engine's reliability.
Run Away!
Bought the truck new...shortly thereafter, when I would hit a bump at speed, the truck would lose steering, lose brakes, shake uncontrollably. make a sound like the end of the world. I took it in to be fixed. They claimed it was repaired 4 or 5 times!! Seriously dangerous stuff. I was bound to kill myself or someone else or whomever was driving it: my wife, mother, father-in-law. I spoke with Ford and got their TSBs...happens in a A LOT of the F250s(gas)! I asked to swap the truck out. No dice; they told me to Lemon Law it (Florida). I did...and won. Ford appealed the decision. This was about a year ago. We go trial (again) in January. When I win that case, Ford will appeal again

Great truck
I guess I'm the lucky one. In almost 6 years of towing I had vacuum pump go out that controlled the AC flow and a tubo hose blew off. We pull a 12,000 lb. 5th wheel from Florida to the Colorado Rockies each summer and the Powerstroke Diesel is an animal. It's almost fun to pull the big passes in the mountains as well as using tow command coming down. This engine is made to pull! After the warranty expired I did an EGR delete. This has been a major weak link with the '04 and '05 Powerstroke. The last time I had service the report was the brakes, tie rods, and suspension are fine. I had the computer reset to current Ford specs and drive, not towing, with a tonneau cover and get 18 mpg hwy
Wouldn't own anything else
I've driven this truck back and forth in Texas and enjoy every mile of it. For a 10k lb truck, she drives like a dream. I test drove the Dodge and Chevy, but neither one offered the room or options that I got with my Ford. Haven't chipped it yet, but I am still getting 15-18 in city and 25 plus on the highway, as long as you stay out of the turbo and realize what you are driving and just kick back.
My New Truck
I traded in a Cadillac STS for this truck. This is a different world. I look forward to getting up in the morning to drive this big truck. The speed bumps in my neighborhood are no longer huge obstacles for me to navigate. I've traded in some luxury and in return I got serious power. If John Wayne were alive, this is what he would drive.
