2013 Chevy Volt

2012 Chevrolet Volt 4dr Hatchback (gas/electric hybrid DD)

I purchased the Chevy Volt 2013 in June 2013 and I already drove over 1500 miles and I had only put in gasoline (not premium) three times. The gasoline tank capacity is about 9.5 gallons (full). The car was making 51 miles only using the battery and about 43mpg using the gasoline alternator, so about driving 94miles with the use only 1gallon of gasoline. Smooth drive when is using the battery, a little vibrating and nose when using the gasoline alternator. The front seats are manually operated. Already from the 2012 model has not yet change in this 2013 is the lack of space for the rear passengers (legs and head).

100% pleased. I bought this car for myself, but my wife loves it so much that I am ordering another one for her. Forget any negative press you may have heard - you have to drive it to appreciate it. I have owned sports cars, SUV's, sport sedans (BMW M5) and this car is the best all around car. The technology is amazing. I can charge at home and at the office and have only used about 1.67 gallons of gas in a month. It costs more to wash the car than put gas in! Go to a dealer and drive one. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of room.

10,026 miles later

After 7 months and 10,026 miles I have to say that the Volt bests even our beloved Prius. Over its life to date, I have used only 69.3 gallons of gasoline, or 144.6 mpg. I am getting between 42 and 48 miles of battery driving each day of my 72-mile commute. To fully charge the battery for those 42-47 miles it costs 82 cents. I am getting between 35 and 41 mpg when the internal combustion engine is recharging the battery.

2012 VOLT LOST PURPOLSION

Twice it's happened to me. Switching from electric to engine, the car jerks, engine starts to scream, revving high, error message comes on "Reduce propulsion," car looses speed, no gas peddle, comes to a slow stop, stalls. Turn car on, engine revving high, burning smell in cab of car. Drive car off freeway, at whatever speed it will allow, then suddenly the revving stops and engine resumes normal. MK Smith Chevrolet in Chino CA, very nice, told me it was my fault, was driving it in mountain mode. Thinking that it could have been me, accepted it and 3 weeks later, it happens gain. This time, caught it on video, tested the drive mode, sure enough, was in "Normal" mode. The same experience, only this time, was at 4 am and not in heavy traffic. This is a safety issue; lives could be at stake, namely mine! I've emailed Chevrolet directly, emailed the MK Smith and hoping they will step up to the plate and fix it. When you google volt loses propulsion, you can see others have had the same problem. The car is under warranty, so what is Chevy waiting for, some to be seriously hurt before they stop scratching their heads? Update from Feb 27, 2017: George's Chevrolet in Bellflower has had my car for a month now, still cannot locate the fix. They have asked me to pickup the car twice, and I've asked the is it safe, they respond by saying GM is still investigating. I've paid a month for a car I'm not driving, and $60 in gas per week, estimated loss out of pocket for the month $850.

NC Volt

Waited until I used my first gallon of gas to write this review. My daily commute is about 32 miles round trip; I also have the ability to charge the vehicle while at work. Traveled 620 miles on my first gallon. The car is expensive and over priced even with the tax credit, BUT it is fun to drive (has become a game to keep my efficiency rate high under all conditions) and I haven’t looked at the price of gas in over 3 weeks! Just beginning to get cold here and have seen a reduction in the range but not an issue getting to and from work. Without the ability to charge at work, I would be at the outer edge of the range under these conditions to fully maximize the technology. So far it has performed as promised and has been a great purchase. Clearly the price point will keep it from many folks but as it comes down over time many more will have the ability to enjoy this wonderful vehicle!
