Best small truck money can buy
My friends and I have owned s10's since we were old enough to drive. I bought my 02 s10 for $3800.00 with 168k on the odo. Since that time it has towed my boats, pulled trucks 3 times its size off the beach, been loaded with 1500 lbs of concrete blocks for home improvement projects, spent a good deal of time off roading in the hills of KY, and all the while took me an additional 72,000 miles. I have now passed the truck to my brother who uses it every day. I can't say enough good things about it. It is completely bulletproof. There is a good reason you see so many of these things on the road to this day. There is nothing on the road today that posesses the rugged simplicity of the S10.
Best Truck I've Owned Yet
S-10 Crew Cab LS 4WD! Yes, it is great to drive, and own. After a few full size trucks (and very poor mileage), I was looking for a smaller, more practical family vehicle, and still wanted a truck. My wife has a '98 Astro Van with the 4.3 Vortec V-6. The S-10 Crew Cab was one of my first choices. Great power, loaded with every possible option. I get 16-17 MPG in town, and 20-23 on the highway. Awesome deal as I bought this slightly used lease return (10,000 miles on it), so the deal was great as well! I will keep this one a while. Has plenty of room for family and a fun truck that I can use to haul things around in. I put a fiberglass topper on it, looks like a Tahoe!

The Little Truck Keeps Working!
The Chevy S10 is an amazing truck! I can always count on it to do its job every day with no complaints! Here in Miami the city is tough on vehicles and I use my Chevy S10 to make it through the city. It handles potholes and bumps very well. No matter what task I throw at it, it seems to handle it well! This is a very durable truck! Maintenance is low cost repairs are easy parts are readily available and there are many customization options including stereos, push bars, campers you name it it's available! Gas mileage is very nice with the 4 cylinder stick. As a 6 foot tall guy I find it comfortable even after 500 miles of driving. I expect my 2002 to last many more years with basic maintenance.

Love My S10!!
I bought my S10 used with about 94K. I have had it for two years and drove it to work 5 days a week. No major repairs, just standard things like brakes and front ball joints. I am really satisfied with it and have gotten many compliments. The 4.3L V6 is very powerful and the 4x4 is great in the snow.
Great truck great price
I bought this truck new and have 150,000 on it. I have not put anything into it except the ABS brakes had a problem and I put new rotors and sensors on. That is it besides tires and oil changes and I did change the serpentine belt because it was nine years old not because it was shot. For the average Joe to haul things around and get from point a to b this truck is great. I get 27 MPG with gasoline and 21 with E 85. I will sell this truck but I will be sad to see it go.
Won't buy another
I liked the truck when I first got it, but have had nothing but problems. Moldings, window and door seals had to be replaced. Security system wouldn't let truck start, loose control arm bolts, now I'm having problem with noisy rear shocks and clunking transmission. I am also having problems with the 2wd/4wd electronic shifting. It is shifting on it's own and having electronic problems.
Best truck ever
I own a 2002 S10 LS extended cab 4wd, and have since purchasing it used in September 2004. At the time of purchase, it had 26k and now has 98k. I service it regularly and have never had any issues other than the tires, brakes, battery that you will have with any vehicle. I have had the check engine light come on twice, and both times the thermostat needing replacing to process the emissions better. I have given thought to purchasing a larger truck with more interior space, but the truck just wont give me a reason to do so. I have offers to buy it constantly, but its a member of the family. We also own a 2011 Equinox which we love also, but if its just wife and I, we take the S10
t
I currently have an 02 v6 s10 with 173k miles on all stock drivetrain. I used this truck for work and towing and beat the living piss out of it. Changed the oil once a year. Never changed the tranny fluid, antifreeze, rear end oil, or greased anything. just ran the hell out of it. Nothing major broke but the fuel pump and the distributor broke 3 times. But still one tough truck

Chevy S-10 2.2 liter
Truck still running great - Getting better fuel economy and more power as the truck gets more miles on it. Still, an increase in HP would be nice but if you're not planning to race anyone or abuse the vehicle, it's great for light duty and gets good gas mileage.
mixed feelings
02 4.3L 2WD Base w/ Ext. cab, 115K. Always kept up with oil changes, tranny & coolant flush. Put more $ in this truck than care to admit...but yet I reflect on its continued performance. Items replaced: fuel injectors, thermostat, rear main seal, front caliper seized twice (same one each time) so new front brake system each time, replaced radiator, 100K tune up so new plugs/wires/dist.cap/rotor. 3rd door useless, oil cooler line replaced, and the big one...blown tranny at 113K (google s10 sunshell and you'll see what I mean). This truck better last until 200K+ with all I've put into it without any more costly repairs. Truck still gets 24mpg and has lots of get up and go when i need it.
new truck
I drove Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma crew cabs. Chevy had more ammenities standard, and I got a better appointed truck for less price. The back seat comfort in all the trucks I drove was limited, but adequate. I got 19.6 mpg on my 2nd tank of gas (mixed city & hwy driving)
Great Trucks
Very Handy Truck, Holds a lot more than it looks like, easy to get around, fun to drive, sporty looking, good milage, no problems with it, all options nessasary are standard,
okay car
The build quality isn't something stellar. The interior plastic is like the type used for trashcans, and there's gaps between the seems, and does not line up. If you bend down and look under where the pedals are, the wires are all sticking out and such. Not having the recirculation option is truly a smack in the buyer's face. Don't get me started how awful it was driving in traffic during our fire season at California. The parking brake is also shoddy, doesn't work unless you forcefully push it all the way down. Heavy doors with weak door springs, not nice, almost had my hand cut off once b/c of it. Fuel pump went out at 36k, leaky suspension, what happened Chevy? You have lost me as a buyer
Love My Little Truck
I bought my S-10 brand new. I would not trade it, never had any trouble out of it.

Good little truck
Bought the truck from the original owner, Found out the little motor is suppose to get 22 mpg, I'm getting 14 right now with 63k on it. other then the annoying secondary air Injector tripping the check engine light constantly, the lack of power, lack of fuel economy, and being on the third. 3rd door handle (now an aluminum one from ebay) i'm very pleased with the truck. As soon as i find out what's up with the gas mileage
So far, So good...
I have owned the Crew Cab S-10 for almost 2 months now and so far it has been a real value/dollar spent. After all the incentives it was the best deal on the market for a truck that can seat a family of four and ft in my garage. The only things I didn't like about the truck I fixed shortly after buying it. The OEM 15" alloy wheels that Chevrolet puts on all their 4x4 S- Series trucks are looking a little dated. The window tint should include all windows and not just the back ones. And last, and the most annoying to me is the Air Bag shutoff switch? Why on Earth would they remove this option from just this model? Shocked me a little.. Dean
CHEVYS RULE THE REST DROOL
FUN TO DRIVE, GOOD RIDE FOR A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, REAL HEAD TURNER, NO ROLL OVERS ON THIS VEHICLE, NO WONDER GM HAS THE NUMBER ONE SELLING PICKUPS.
Buy one can"t go wrong!
This truck has been an outstanding truck to drive. I have the ZR5 which has a very sporty look. It's performed great for me. So good that this is my first time ever writing a review. It's very economical, comfortable, stylish, and convenient. I highly recommend it!
Great Truck!
I just got this truck after looking at blazers, jeeps, pathfinders and more. I wanted something with four doors, 4 wheel drive, and room to haul "stuff" around. I ended up chooseing the S10 Crew Cab because it essentially has the same room for 5 passengers as the smaller SUV's. With the box and the added custom topper I have almost as much room as my old Van when the third seat was removed (Windstar - not sad to see that go!) Possibly more! I needed more towing power, and didn't want something that was going to kill me at the gas pump. So far I love the truck! Time will tell.
rate my truck
vehicle runs very smooth, makes no engine noises. real reliable car, exterior body style is beatiful, wouldnt mind if interior had a little more silver plated panels, great with gas. probably can need a sunroof, and be a little more wider vehicle
Tetanus shot up to date if you lean against this v
I bought this vehicle when it was 13 years old and only had 40,000 mile s thinking I was getting a cream puff. Immediately had to replace cat converter, O2 sensor, maf sensor, and ac/heater control panel. Love the size of pickup but cheap int, inferior ext(I've owned 2 S10s and both weigh a lot less than when I bought them,RUST)and horrible gas mileage. Idk I'd love to buy another one but i just cant picture myself doing it too many negatives

best small truck i feel
I absolutely love this truck, I wanted to get one for a long time. Zr2 package is my favorite, because it lets the truck come already as a fun looking small sized offroad pick-up. The s10 also is still a Nice truck which ever version, u have, like 4x4,2wd, stripped, loaded, anyway its still comes as a Nice looking truck, unlike the Tacoma or Dakota were if those trucks don't come in the better models they look stripped, and cheap, the Tacoma more so.
Lots of toys for the $$
What can I say in 700 Characters?? ZR-2 without decals! xfer from W.Va. to Va. swiped 4WDtires. Interior light on-other dealer (Fl) fixed it,said tires switched. Orig. dealer corrected. 4k Fuel gauge problems.Right signal on constant. 10k Driver sill replaced. Fuel gge fixed. All work done under warranty. Still can't complain. We love it! Wish could get GF let me drive more. Crew Cab, with hard tonneau 18-19's fine (vs.11-14 on 3500Crew). Almost got the Dodge V8 (14 MPG), couldn't begin justify the 5k in price! Would we buy another? YES WE WOULD! 1 complmnt/wk. Who'd have thought?
poor gas mileage
the poor gas mileage is worst thing about this truck for only having 6-cyl. i get about 180 miles on a full tank.
1999 S-10 ZR-2 5-Speed
I'll be 50 this year and this is easily the best built vehicle I have ever owned. It came from the factory with zero defects and with three years of use in Anchorage, Alaska, which isn't the easiest climate on vehicles, it had a whopping total of one defect in three years. Excellent job Chevy.
First Chevrolet Owned
I have always owned Ford trucks. The last one being a 1997 Ranger. When I began shopping, I honestly wanted a Dakota. But the $3000 rebate and the big 4.3 six cyl lured me into a S10. I am soooooooooo glad that I chose the Chevy. After driving a 4 cyl Ranger for 4 years the Chevy was quite a performance improvement. Fuel economy has been better than advertised. There are so many little "extras" with regard to creature comfort and convenience features that Ford or Dodge just do not offer.
My S-10
Picked this little truck at a huge Auto Sale the local dealers in our area do every year. The put all of their vehicles, new and used, up for discounted sales. I've done this twice and have very good luck with the auto's I've purchased. This truck was one of three that caught my eye. It's a very durable truck and it's been my go to work every day vehicle. I've averaged about 21 mpg with every fill up some times more sometimes less, depending on what I'm doing with it. I also had a spray on bedliner done right after I bought. I've hauled dirt, wood, trash, recycle stuff, and furniture. I keep up the maintenance on it and it still looks like show room quality.
Love the truck hate the repairs
This is a nice truck for room. But the gas mileage is bad and I have had to replace the rear end twice so far and just had to replace the bearrings in it. For some reason water keeps getting in there. Clueless of how or why. Also the new tonue covers leak bad. I have had nothing but problems w/this truck.
Good Truck
I bought this truck in spring 06 w/70k miles. It was been very good to me even though i have been hard on it. The only issue i had was the CAT and O2 censors went out and i had to get them replaced. I'm thinking that was due to taking it off roading a few to many times. The truck averages about 18 MPG driving around town and has gotten as high as 21 MPG doing 70 on long trips.
Good Truck!
Been almost a year and has been a great truck. Only problems has been some fit and finish issues but been reliable transport. Great 4wheeling on the beach and tailgating vehicle. Added Yakima roof rack for the bike and a hitch. Seems to have more interior room then a Toyota or Nissan. 4.3L has great low end torque. Great price and its got everything I need and more.
Jurys still out
NICE TRUCK TO START THEN THE RADIO KEPT LOCKING OUT NOW WITH 42000 MILES REAR AXEL SEAL GONE ALSO REAR PINION SEAL BIG $$ TO FIX
2 1/2 happy years
Good vehicle, perfit for going to Home Depot. My wife loves it, she would rather drive the truck verses our Honda minivan.
My Red Tonka Toy
This size and style of a truck fits my life style and kids. No its not the roomiest but its a compact truck not full size..
love it
love it, have had a lot of people check it out, and ask questions
Wish they still made these!
This is the third s10 I have owned, I have had a 99,00 and the current 02. I am very partial to the 4.3 because it is very dependable and I always put 200,000 miles or more on these trucks. I do not know why people have had problems with the fuel pump, I have got 180,000 out of all of mine. I always felt the truck was a good buy with good looks for the money! I would Rather push a USA truck than drive any Toyota!
Reliable, Not Flashy
The styling might be tiered but the dependability is wide awake. The body panels fit perfectly while the 4.3L 6 cylinder provides plenty of pep for the automatic trans. The payload and towing limits are sufficient for routine household requirements while the fuel efficiency is much better than expected.
Worst Vehicle ever
This vehicle has been my worst nightmare! Has had over ten thousand dollars worth of repairs. Repairs had started at twenty thousand miles and has not stopped. Something is always breaking down. I have lost all faith in the big three. With this economy my money needs to go further just like everyone else. I am going with Toyota. Reliability/quality is a must, which the big three can't provide.
what was I thinking
I have 107,000 and I work at a chevy dealer ant the people there say its just broken in. I have had the truck for a little over 2 years and i have put over $2500-$3000 into fixing it and another $1200 to do yet. it gets the same gas milege as a fullsize truck I barely get 20 mpg on the highway for long trips. I cant wait to trade it in, I will never buy another GM product again, this isnt my first bad experience with GM. GO FORD
Storm's S-10 CrewCab
I just had the transmission and rear differential replaced - total cost $3100.00 I put it in reverse the other day and it sounded like a grenade went off. I couldn't believe this American and union built car needed all this work done and the vehicle is only 4 1/2 years old - quite surprising.
Typical GM
Gutless no-tech motor. 17mpg @ 70mph. Overly restrictive air intake. PLASTIC intake manifold. PLASTIC clutch master-cylinder. PLASTIC power-steering fluid reservoir. PLASTIC radiator end-tanks. PLASTIC headlight covers. PLASTIC front grill with water soluble coloring. PLASTIC EVERYTHING in passenger compartment. Windows that refuse to seat properly in the fully-raised position. One broken window regulator (so far). All 4 shocks leaking. Torn rubber exhaust system hangers. Throttle jams in wide-open position. Corrosive DEXKOOL "coolant". ABS system must be disabled to get any kind of reliable braking. Hyper-sensitive seatbelt retractors.
S-10 15 months after purchase
After owning this vehicle for 15 months, overall I am satisfied given the dollars spent. The vehicle looks great and has been reliable.
EXTREME Street Machine
Factory stripes and low crouching suspension give this truck a very intimidating look. You really have to see these beauties in person to get the effect. Plenty of room in extended cab for audio. Do yourself a favor and invest in a good Tonneau cover and a radar/laser jammer. Does 100 MPH too quickly and 80 MPH too easily. 3rd time truck owner, first time Chevy - very happy. Will buy again.
John's review!
My last truck was a s-10 a 95 4cl it really had no problems at all. With the 3000 rebate i just could not say no to a new one. This time i got the 4.3L V6 Sportside model so it can tow what i want and looks better than a regular s-10.
Excellent little pick up truck!!
This is the best little truck I have ever had, mine is a manual V6 so I love to smoke those sittle 4's and some of the other V6's.
My New S-10 Crew Cab
This S-10 has been very reliable, good handling capabilities, great "go anywhere" capability, suspension is very good for its class, very good fuel economy (23-27hwy & 17-19city), plenty of power for its class. Cons on this vehicle are: cheap finishes...trim, paint, and fitting of interior parts. Vehicle has very poor turning radius.
Having second thoughts
Truck has MANY fit a finish problems. Seals and moldings around doors and windows are crooked, or have chunks missing. I'm having a MAJOR problem right now with the Passkey security system. After a month of running fine, the security system keeps shutting off the gas to the engine and sometimes it takes me over an hour to get the truck to start. I just took it in last night for the dealers 2nd chance on taking care of that problem. I think that they will have it awhile, but they provided me with a nice loaner car. Up until the starting problem, I really LOVED the Truck. Now I'm having second thoughts about buying it..
Quantity not Quality
I bought this vehicle four years after its make, I started having problems with it by the end of 2007 and haven't gotten it to pass emissions since 2008. THe repairs have cost me a little over 3,300 when the engine blew in the end of 2009 and the electrical problems have cost me near a grand, I have put two fuel pumps into it and two sets f new tires. The truck is like the devil on wheels. I might buy GM again but it defiantly will not be an S-10! Plus it is so heavy, buying gas for such a small stocky truck drains the bank account, I will go for a more dependable, loading vehicle next time.
Chevrolet S-10
Vehicle engine occasionally "revs up" when trying to shift from low to drive. The dealer is aware of this problem and is working with me to correct it. It is aggravating. You expect a new vehicle to preform problem free.
im surprised
currently have 16000 miles and am still happy
Dam nChevy POS
What a rude awakening. I have been driving Chevy's all my life and I will never buy another. The paint job sucks. I tried to haul a carpet (yes a Carpet), and it really scratched up my paint job. I returned to my dealer to complain and was told that it was not warranted and that Chevy would call it excessive wear. Hauling a carpet is excessive? it is a pickup right. Anyway, after 4 phone calls and numerous threats to sue GM they finally agreed to fix it. All they did was spray some touch up paint on it and then wouldn't even give me the damn warranty receipt. The Morale of the story is to NEVER, EVER, Buy a Chevy.
