Exactly what I was looking for!
I found it this spring in a used private deal and consider myself lucky. It is now about 11 years old with 200,000 km on odometer, with perfect body shape, and pretty good interior. I do not need a 4x4 diesel HD 3/4T (far too expensive to purchase, too large, too tall, higher operating and maintenance costs, etc.), but I do need to be able to pull my 7900# (gross) travel trailer and family safely on the highway. This has a 350 (5.7L) engine, rated to pull a 8000# hitch travel trailer, and has a payload capacity about 2200#, which suits my needs perfect. Too many people overload their 1/2 tons pulling a trailer or buy something far more than they need.
Serves me very well
I've had the truck for 10 years and use it as a truck. We pull a travel trailer and have made many long trips. The Chevy is holding up very, very well at 130,000 miles. I expect it to last to 200,000 miles. The only problem I had was head gasket failure due to poor coolant. The coolant was rated for 100k miles but lasted only 60k. The stock sound system is incredible. Fuel mileage is 15 - 16 on the highway; 10 mpg pulling a trailer. The truck has done everything I've asked and we are planning a 12 month trip with it and the travel trailer beginning this summer. Chevy did a good job when they built this vehicle. I made a good purchase.

Best truck on the road
It's a heavy duty long bed with canopy and steel rack - diesel so 13 loaded and 15 on the road unloaded is good gas mileage! This truck goes anywhere in the snow with a load in the back! Starts anytime! Gives real security whenever, where ever! Only complaint is the heat/AC. Barely warm enough in the real cold on the road but does keep the frost off your nose and the AC just wouldn't stay charged. Good thing I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area! Defrost works fine! Love this truck!
good truck
Very good purchase. This truck has the 3/4 ton frame and the famous 5.7L 350. the 1998 has a restyled interior that make this year model very nice for an older truck. As it is a domestic, parts for this truck will be much more affordable than say, a Toyota or nissan.
7 Years of Great Service
During the 7 years I've owned the truck, I never had a major equipment failure. The only cons were the tires (Continental General Ameri 500) wore out and cracked @ 24,000 miles. The front brake pads were toast at 27,000 miles, which inturn ate my front rotors. The rear shoes show little sign of wear at 45,000 miles. The body looks as good as the day I bought it, thanks to Zimoyl wax, but New England winters are hard on Detroit iron and I am trading it before cancer sets in (which is always terminal from the copious amounts of salt used on our highways). And yes, I am buying the same truck in a 2004 model.
Chevy 3/5 ton
I've had this truck 10 years. What a great truck. Hauled and hauled and never a real issue. Under-powered at high altitude with a full load. Only minor issues along the way, fuel pump, alternator, battery. The brakes lasted over 75,000 miles, not bad.
USEFUL
This is the most reliable truck I ever have driven, it withstands extreme abuse on a daily basis and I have only had to change a clutch and a fuel pump. It is easy to work on, I have done all repairs except the clutch changing, and it is a good truck to teach people how to drive a standard.
Best truck going
I needed a 3/4 ton truck, 4 wheel drive, leather, and a crew cab. I wanted a gasoline engine. This truck was everything I wanted and then some. I added a body lift and larger wheels and tires, and the rest of it is still factory. My one complaint, is the fuel economy. If they can't improve the gas mileage, give us a bigger tank. Other than that, the only thing better than ny truck would be two of them.
2000 GMC 4dr crew SLT
Sound truck, no problems with cheap materials, quality in all features. Smooth Quiet ride.
Awesome Truck!
This is the best truck ever made. Very few repairs ever done to it and it has 98,000 and going strong still. Unfortunatley the gas is expensive but you dont buy trucks for gas mileage. Overall this truck is my baby and I'll never give it up.
Power of a 454 with the MPG of a V6!
Very tough. very powerful. This is my first turbo diesel truck, and I am amazed at how strong it pulls. It climbs the steepest hills without losing speed and without shifting out of overdrive. I acheived 20 MPG on my last trip, which is amazing for a truck that's over 5500 lbs and makes 440 lb/ft of torque. All of the 6.5 TD shotcomings you read about were fixed by the time the 2000 rolled out, so I have had NO trouble whatsoever ... never heats up. The 4 speed HD auto is the toughest out there, and the truck drives like a dream. With $1000 in upgrades, this thing will run like a hot rod!
Quality Built
I purchased my PU new and have had few problems. I have had to replace the intake manifold gasket and that is about all. As with any vehicle, owners must pop the hood once in awhile and inspect. I replace the serpentine belt every 20000 and inspect all pulleys. I have alway used synthetic oil in the engine, transmission and rear end. I grease all zerks every 5000 miles. After vehicle was purchase I installed a complete 5000 lb air lift system on it. This is a must if you are going to be hauling or towing large loads. Bottom line is perform routine preventive maintenance unless you enjoy being stranded along the highway.
good truck bad trasmison
I have a 99 cheverolet K-2500 with a 7.4L and a 5 speed manual transmison. The motor runs great but the transmison is another story I bought the truck brand new and right from the start a noise was in the transmison and i took it back to the dealership and they said there was nothing the matter so after about 12 trips back they rebuilt it and it still made the noise. So I took it back and they finaly got a new trasmison in it and it is doing wonderful.
K2500 CC SB 4x4
Good reliable truck with a comfortable ride for a hd 3/4 ton 4x4.
Good, Great, can't complain
I love my truck, it's roomy, inside and out. Good looking auto.
love
love my new truck
Disappointed
I have always been a "Chevy Man", now I am not so sure. This truck is supposed to be a HEAVY DUTY TRUCK. Transmission blew up at 75,000 mi, passenger seat broke 4 times, windshield wipers broke once, and leather seats ripped. The radio lights don't work anymore, and GM has to send out the radio to AC Delco for repair, about 2 - 3 weeks. This truck does not have a third door and desperatley needs one. Interior design sucks, no room for passengers in back. Terrible to get in and out of. Also has interior rattles/noises. Not too much room for storage!!! I can go on and on!
built like a rock
best truck built. tought, dependable and long lasting. can handle anything you throw at it. a monster!
Great truck with few flaws
I’ve had my 98 Cheyenne for several years and besides brake pads and two new batteries this truck has asked me for nothing. I’ve owned 2 t-100 Toyota’s and they were very dependable but one had the frame rot- kind of a big problem and the other was just plain rusty and I soon tired of showing up to work with a wet crotch and the old man jokes that went along with it. I decided to buy my brothers plow truck- the Chevy. Ok Toyota has a great reputation but the old Chevy always starts on -30 below weather, never needs to get plugged in and does the 12 plow contracts that I have to supplement my social security. It doesn’t get great mileage but considering it’s driving around with a plow on it I can’t [non-permissible content removed] about it. It’s been a dependable friend and has asked for very little. The interior is a bit plastic but surprisingly has held up well and the body has only a bit of surface rust. The odometer has passed 340,000 miles and I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it across the country tomorrow. I have been convinced that the domestic trucks -Chevy, Ford and dodge have gotten a bad reputation when compared to Toyota. The Toyota’s are a good truck but there’s no way my Toyota’s could have done what my old Chevy has. I recommend them highly.

Love My Truck!
Love this truck. The only flaw that we have found is that it was designed with no baffles in the fuel tank. This allows the fuel to "slosh" around at stops. This has made us wonder what was "wrong" with the truck (because of the noise & the feel with the movement within the tank). We found through several service center checks that this is not a mechanical problem. It has not caused any "problems" now that we know what it is. It does take some getting used to. If you keep the fuel level at about a half tank or above you are less likely to notice the movement within the tank.
Over all good truck.
Over all I have been very happy with my truck. It rides nice has a quiet cab and is fun to get on the freeway with. I have been in some very muddy places with it and I have never been stuck yet. I like the way the cab is set up and has a great sounding radio. When Ive used it to tow and could hardly feel like I was towing at all. The only thing I dont care for is the RV mirror it makes a big blind spot. I am rather tall so that could pe part of it.

Great Truck! Good Looking. Very Reliable. Last of the classic body style. Good pulling power w/good fuel mileage. Worth every penny!
2000 Chevy 2500 w/ 454 V-8
It has all the power in the world! I absolutely love it .It is fun to drive!
Workhorse.
This is the absolute king of all work trucks, hands down. 342,000 miles and runs just as smooth as a new truck. The engine is outlasting everything including the interior. I’m gonna have to replace the seat before the engine. If you have the opportunity, do not pass it up.

leaky intake gasket chevy truck
Truck is a TRUCK, a workhorse will do what you want it to do. I do not like the thermal 4wd actuator it stinks when it goes out. also the intake manifold gasket leak problem these chevy's have. BUT OVERALL it is a good truck and love to drive it Flush the DEX COOL and use GREEN ANTIFREEZE it works best
pretty but fragile
My truck has been very lightly used. First, a list of problems: alternator, fuel pump, intake manifold gaskets (twice), engine control module( left me sitting on the side of the road while on vaction), serpentine belt tensioner (fell off and left me sitting the side of the road on another vacation), rusty brake lines, transfer case output shaft retaining clip, ( this broke and left me on the side of the road after loading 1/2 yard of mulch on it), Water pump. I'm sure I've forgotten some others.Oh yah, wiper control module. The steering is too sensitive, It is tiring to drive on a trip with constant corrections. Never offroad. Put a load of wood on it and the rear sags excessively.
