Best car over all we have ever owned.
Only two caveats. One is gas mileage. We did not have high expectations and we’re not surprised that we got only 25 miles per gallon on a round trip trip to Colorado from Irvine California. On the same trip in our 2016 BMW 435I we got 32 miles per gallon. The lower mileage with the M40i is of course due to the fact that it has a more powerful engine, is much heavier, and is all wheel drive. The other caveat is that it came with tires that I consider to be substandard for that vehicle. If you’re driving is primarily urban/suburban, I think the M40i is overkill, and that the 30i would be a better choice.

Drives like a sports car, but benefits of SUV
Traded my 2018 Audi S4 in for this a few weeks ago. I needed more space, higher clearance (I live in DC and roads are awful), and a relatively smaller SUV for city. At the same time, I did not want to sacrifice performance. And the M40i certainly delivers all of that! It is an incredible mix of fun and practicality.

Looks Like an SUV... Drives Like a Car
I have had my x3 for about one month, I have the all wheel drive version. Here are my impressions. It handles well for an SUV. There is a bit of body roll but probably expected. This is my first SUV in a number of years. Power is adequate to good. Road noise is minimal with the Pirelli all season run flats. Ride is smooth. I worry they won't last and I will be on the hook for tires. I leased a demo. Options add up very quickly. Get the nav for a bigger screen. Apple Car play costs after one year. BMW app for unlocking/locking the car is pretty good. I think the BMW map software is just ok. Google, like normal, is better. I have the higher end leather seats, they feel good. There is a thigh extension for taller drivers. So called digital dash is lame. Start stop feature is not as pronounced as on my old three series. Harmon Kardon is supposedly standard even if you don't get the upgrade I did not...but miss having the subwoofer. It is not branded as HK if you don't pay for the upgrade. I do wish I had wireless charging but mine did not. You cannot upgrade aftermarket unless you do some serious zombie work...not doable on a lease. There are some negatives, the tech is pretty involved, need to scroll thru menus to set up properly. BMW so called genius did some of it when I picked up the car. I have the heated and cooled seats...heating works better than cooling. Not sure it is really worth getting the 'cooled' seats. Panoramic sunroof is massive. I do like it. I thought the heads up display was a gimmick but now of course I do like it. Retailed at 54K. Has safety features, but I think my Accord does them all better. Lane keeping assist in the Accord is more pronounced than in the BMW. I did consider the Honda Passport but local dealer would not deal. Plenty of cargo room. Seats fold down. Some reviewers have had software issues, so far I have had none. I will update my review as time passes. I am pretty picky, and so far I am pleased for the most part. I traded in a 2016 320xi.

Outstanding Vehicle
I was looking for a more roomy and more comfortable vehicle to comute every day to work. After owning a 2015 328XI for a few years, I definitely needed a car that didn’t give me a back pain due to awful seats (3 series seats are a shame) and that had more space for my family. After driving a loaner X3 when my car was being serviced I realized that the X3 was the car I was looking for. Decided to lease this time so I can return it in case It is not good enough but I am really confident I will keep it after the lease is over. Outstanding, reliable and comfortable vehicle. Strongly recommend. Don’t forget to add the drive assistance package.

Handles like a sedan with room of a larger CUV
Excellent power and response with great MPGs 25-27 city/hwy combined in mixed driving. Comfortable leather seats Great outward visibility Handling that is near as good as a sports sedan Alot of technology that is satisfying including Apple Car Play and good infotainment system with large bright high def screen. It would get 5 stars if it were lower on cost. But it was worth the xtra $ after incentives. It doesn't have the glitz and glam of sportier CUVs like and an M40i, SQ5, GLC 43 but compared to and RDX and XC60 it handles and drives with much more driver engagement for spirited driving. If you can pick up one used for less make sure it is not more expensive than leasing a new one, its 57% residuals really made it a great value.
