Devastated
My review is based on the automatic transmission with a sport Drive which is the slapstick manual also is transmission is a nightmare I had it a month and 3rd and 4th went into limp mode I couldn't afford to replace the transmission so I drove it that way for 4 years which is decent there's a hundred fifty-seven thousand miles on the car and now the reverse is out but that's just the beginning of my nightmare. It started running hot about 6 months ago had the head gasket checked it was okay went through water pumps and every other imaginable thing you could put in the engine of this car and it kept running hot it finally blew the head gasket after I spent a fortune trying to fix it my mechanic put an additive in there and the next day the engine completely blew up. Not an additive a sealer. The convertible top is coming unglued from the window, the faux wood grain is cracked and peeling off and the seats are brittle and rotting. Sounds like I didn't take very good care of this car which could not be the farthest from the truth is car head incredible maintenance records it was my baby and it fell apart right before my eyes. It has a blind spot that will get you killed and I am so disappointed because I'm an older adult oh, I loved my car and I really thought this would be my last vehicle now I have to spend money I don't have to find another one and this is after putting thousands into this car. I would not recommend this to anyone that didn't have the money to completely rebuild every Mickey Mouse thing in this car. I wish you the best of luck!

Great car until it needs maintenance
I am the original owner. It is garage kept and only has 71,000 miles. I have really enjoyed it - it still looks almost new. However, like other reviewers, I have had maintenance issues - all 4 window regulators broke early on (was told they are made by a vendor of BMW), both headlights and three turn signal bulbs replaced, windshield wiper fluid reservoir leaked and was replaced. Also have creaking and thumping of frame which my mechanic could not diagnose. Now I may need the bushings replaced and the ABS may also need to be replaced - over $5,000 for both in addition to normal maintenance. If it comes to that I will be looking for another car. I do not trust it long term.

Perfect
What can I say. Best car I've ever owned.
Impressive Sports Sedan
This is my third 3 series, all I can say is they are all awesome! This car is has an unbelievable style along with power, handling and just plain fun to drive. The larger 17 inch rims and sports package definitely turns heads and is a must have for me. Cost for service is a bit high but rarely needed. I found a great independent authorized BMW certified mechanic that does all my work for less than half what the dealer charges. I love this car, buy one and I know you will enjoy for many years!
16 years later...
Bought this from my daughter for next to nothing because it had NO trade in value. It was always breaking on her and not reliable. It is the same with me. 16 years , 111,003 miles today and has another 4000.00 dollar repair on the horizon. I am convinced nothing from germany is worth owning after 2 years. (Except a Porsche, which i also spend too much on but enjoy) So it will leave our family and end our relationship with German cars. Repair bills ARE a factor to consider. Before I traded this car off, I fixed it, still got nothing for it on trade. Never a Mercedes or BMW.
