As far as Bentleys go, the Continental series of coupes and convertibles are instantly recognizable. They have proud yet sleek front-end designs and the trademark fastback sloping rear deck that's lifted straight from the postwar era. And while cars have changed, Bentley has kept its famous handbuilt interiors and stately presence the same.
While not for everyone, those who are interested in the standard Continental GT would look at its twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 (imagine two V6s kind of snuggling together), dynamic all-wheel-drive system, adjustable suspension, square yards of leather and real wood and call it good. It lacks the high-tech features that some of its competitors use, and for this small group, that's just fine, and that's because Continentals are easy to drive. You can just get in and, without fiddling with entertainment and navigation computers and learning how to operate various drive modes, go travel the countryside in comfort and speed.
Like all other Bentleys, the Continental features numerous leather and wood options, different wheels and virtually unlimited paint combinations. Build it your way, and enjoy driving something unique.
If you want to relive the era of the "Bentley Boys" and push the sports car aspects of the Continental platform, the new-for-2017 Bentley Continental Supersports should fulfill your fantasies. With even more power than the GT Speed (a whopping 700 horsepower and ridiculous 750 pound-feet of torque), the Supersports also features a unique interior leather and trim combination and blacked-out wheels, bodywork trim and taillights. And then there's the wing.
Now, if you're on the other side of the fence, and want to simply enjoy a calm driving experience, the Bentley Continental also comes with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. The aptly named Continental GT V8 produces 500 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque, and uses the same eight-speed transmission and all-wheel-drive system as the W12-equipped variants.
For a little more power and uniqueness, the Continental GT V8 S ups the power to 521 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque and blacked-out exterior hardware.
Of course, you can also get all five variants in corresponding convertible models. But be forewarned, the Continental line of cars is large and heavy. Instead of outright agility, they're better at long sweeping corners, climbing steep mountain grades and just generally passing miles. And if you're interested in building one, let Edmunds help guide you to configure and buy the perfect Bentley Continental GT.
