2003 A4... My "December to Remember"
I drove everything in this category and always came back to the A4 as the best of the bunch. I wanted the 3.0 V6 but couldn't justify the expense. I purchased the 1.8T and am glad I did. In real world driving the 1.8T really is great. It may not have the peak HP of the V6 or IS300 but the torque curve is so flat it just flies up hills with ease.... and more HP is just a chip away. Compared to the IS300 it has a MUCH nicer interior, beautifully executed, with superb gauges, lighting and ergonomics, plus more rear seat room, fold-down seats and 35% larger trunk. Sorry Lexus, the A4 is my "December to Remember."
Audi Rules!
I sold a 1-yr old 3 series to buy the 02 Audi Quattro. The Audi blows it away. The 3 series understeers and is incompetent in the wet. Trunk is also microscopic on the Bimmer, and the whole car is overpriced. But you knew that!

Great car... but
I love this car. Fit and finish is great. Car looks aggressive with performance package 17 inch wheels. Fun to drive. Quattro is awesome. But I am plagued by squeaks and rattles. I would expect better from Audi.
Disappointing Audi
My 03 A4 1.8T Quattro (53K miles) is constantly in the shop. The dealership once forgot to change the oil during scheduled maintenance, forcing a breakdown on 95. Another time, the oil pump failed, again forcing a breakdown on 95. Further, separate fuel coils have failed, forcing two additional breakdowns on the highway. Aside from reliability, the A4 1.8T Quattro is a sluggish car (although it handles nicely in bad weather). I previously owned an A4 and had similar issues. While this car looks good inside and out, its reliability is unsatisfactory, to put it mildly. I will never buy an Audi again, and I urge you to exercise caution before purchasing one.
Great car
Bought it brand new 3.5 yrs ago and had only 2 problems. Oil sludge build up at 43K miles which the dealer fixed right away. Fuel pump went out at 57K, warranty had already expired at 50K, but dealer replaced w/50% off. Other than that, its been a great reliable car. Would purchase another Audi in a heartbeat.
