Used 2019 Acura RDX Consumer Reviews
Still happy. 6000 mile update
I bought my 2019 RDX Advanced SH-AWD in May. After owning a 2007 MDX for 12 years with no problems, I was compelled to buy another Acura. I went with the RDX because of price, better gas milage and newer technical features compared to the MDX. So far, I am very happy with the car. Plenty of power, great ride and the sporty handling. The seats are so comfortable. I have taken 3 long drives, 9 hrs or more each, and love the seats and the quiet cabin. I really only have 1 minor complaint. When accelerating, especially aggressively, I think the engine is too noisy. I'm not sure if Acura is creating engine noise through the speakers to give it that high performance feel like my VW GTI does. But, at cruising speed, I can't hear the engine. I highly recommend this car.

A 48 Month Experience Purchased New
I purchased this car new after trading in a 2015 Lexus RX350 from the same dealer ownership I purchased the Lexus from due to its flaky technology that led to distracted driving. I was one of the best decisions I ever made. I purchased it with all the safety and comfort features available only leaving off some exterior 'frosting' features. I is a pleasure to drive and totally outperformed my Lexus, which was the first car I got rid of in less than 10 years. As a trackpad user on a computer the navigation interface was easy to learn and has always worked well for me. The internal navigation system while having some initial issues was useable, generally reliable, and not near as distracting due to bugs as the Lexus was. Over time it has continually improved with free user installed updates which the Lexus lacked. Factory customer support, while not optimum is outstanding when compared to Lexus. Subscription costs for services is substantially lower and so far map updates have been complimentary. Their have been occasional somewhat minor issues that have been well handled by the dealer I purchased it from. Like so many other vehicles, technology is an occasional issue but Acura and the dealer has taken ownership of the issues with updates and complementary recalls. Including adding the promised Android compatibility to the existing Carplay capability. Much of the Carplay issues seemed to relate to Apple which has been substantially improved recently. The car has some incredable little marketed features such as tire air fill sound indicators when filling them, tire pressures inside the vehicle, lots of hidden storage space, real time gas mileage indicator, automatic temperature adjusting seating, side view mirrors that remember your seating positioning any many more. The transmission is gear driven, lacking the issues associated with constant velocity transmissions. The turbocharge engine, unlike the Lexus provides rapid response in tight driving situations with plenty of power and along with the paddle shifters provides great downhill engine braking resulting less brake wear and better control. The cruise control also provides automatic breaking down to a stop which is very helpful and stress relieving in heavy traffic. The gas cap is built into the locking cover requiring no separate removal. The engine also has temporary automatic shut off after stopping in traffic helping gas mileage. I particularly like the heads-up display on the windshield that has resulted in me almost never having to look down and take my eyes off the road. That said there are some issues. Self-steering ceases to function, with warnings after about 20 seconds after not holding the steering wheel but you do get lane departure warnings. Sometimes Carplay does not properly initially link up with the phone before driving resulting either turning off and restarting the vehicle or using the keypad to reset the Infotainment system. The fog lights lack sufficient intensity to be useful and are mainly decoration. Recently there have been intermittent outages of the Infotainment audio that persisted after the system was replaced under warranty but have since disappeared. Leaves tend to gather between the wipers and the hood. Only two cup holders are available in each seating area. No AC power converter outlet is included no are their any USB or power outlets in the rear storage area. While 360º camera coverage is present with night vision no assisted parking is included other than guidelines. Cruise control fails to slow down the vehicle when going downhill from set speeds. It requires premium fuel. All said when purchased this vehicle exceeded any of its competition at its price point or even much higher priced competitors and has been an overall outstanding performer with minimal upkeep. 4 Year Update: Here are the key pluses and minuses since I did the initial review: - Mostly resolved the CarPlay issue by purchasing a 3rd party wireless converter from Amazon that plugs into the wired connection in the car to turn it into a wireless connection. The downside of this is that the car is no longer charging the phone unless you plug it into a standard wired connection elsewhere in the car. - Acura Customer Support has severely depreciated to the point it often is next to useless - The hatch door in the back closes with such force that if you are in its path, it can literally knock you over. This has been reported to the NHTSA but has received no follow-up to my knowledge. Acura Support could care less. This has resulted in a lower safety rating being posted by me. - There is an issue with the fuel pump which requires replacement under a recall. However, parts to do this have not been available for many months with no indication of when they will be available. My current understanding is that only cars that have had the failure, which makes the car not drivable, are getting replacement. - There is a 'hidden' feature to cruise control that is only mentioned in the main manual some 400+ pages into it. That if the following distance button is held down rather than being quickly pressed it switches off low speed cruise control while you are driving and using it. If you are not aware of this function and do not quickly react, it can result in a rear end collision with the car in front of you. The turning off low speed function should not be allowed when the function is in use and the car is moving. This has been reported to NHTSA and once again, Acura could care less. Other than that, the car has been extremely reliable with the only non-maintenance being a battery replacement and a replacement of an LED passenger foot well bulb ($15) with a broken connection causing uncontrollable speaker sound static which the dealer refused to examine unless Acura paid them $600 to check it and which I finally diagnosed and replaced in 15 minutes without any tools as the panel simply snaps off by hand pressure. Gas milage on the averages 20MPG with mixed driving. The only reasons I would be concerned about purchasing a new one are the abysmal Acura Customer Service and the items mentioned above that have been ignored by Acura. Hopefully a later model addressed some of these issues. 12/24: About a year has passed about a fuel pump recall to have it replaced including a 2nd notice that they were now available but the local dealers still can't get any with no idea when they can. If the fuel pump fails, which can suddenly happen anytime, the care becomes not driveable. For me this is just another example of the degration of Honda customer service. Also my independent auto shop discovered a small seal leak on the transmission & showed me photos. Cost of this repair would normally run 4 figures as it requires transmission removal. However when buying the car I negotiated a dealer extended warranty for a much lower price so I will only cost me $100. Something to think about when purchasing a new car. Key purchasing points: Everything is nogoatable and the dealer will likely try to sell you everything at an inflated price. Final note: Tires have a lifespan of around 6 years before being a safety risk. Dealers and manufactures often use older tires as they are cheaper. Check the date on tire & demand for ones less than 6 months old. If you buy a new car you deserve new tires. Date code is 4 digits with the 1st 2 being the week of year and the last 2 the year.

I've had nothing but problems with this car
I got it in July - a month later, the whole audio system crapped out while I was driving - I couldn't use CarPlay, Bluetooth, Sirius XM, FM or nav. And while my car was off, the display remained on and drained my battery. I jumped the car and drove around, but it happened again. I had it towed to the dealer, but when the AAA guy jumped the car - the whole system started working on its own. This happened to me again 3 months later, but it didn't restart itself. The dealer had to do a hard reset. When I drive in snow, i get all kids of warning signs on the screen. When I called the service department at my dealer - the said, oh yeah, the radar gets blocked by snow and none of you additional safety features will work - poor design in my opinion. Now my carplay is not working, the dealer held it for 3 days and said -it's because I use a third party wire - I brought my apple wire, and same thing - it's not working. The dealer says - oh and be careful using waze, the carplay acts out - well it's ACURA's problem, not Waze's - it works on all other car without an issue for me. I'm just so frustrated, ACURA put an unreliable, untested, poorly designed system on the market and is collecting our money. I will never buy or lease another acura, because of all the issues i had. Oh, and the whole touchpad idea - STUPID!

Unhappy buyer
We purchased this car in April, 2019 and thought we had purchased a reliable car until January, 2020 when we were driving down highway and begin to heard a noise and then car would not shift out of 2nd gear. Took car to dealership in Birmingham, AL and left. They called us and said transmission was problem so put a new transmission in car. Car only had 12,000 miles on it. So glad it was in warranty but worried about what's next. The navigation system is awful and still can't connect an Android phone to car.
