Thank For The Info. I'm returning a 2011 Laredo with low mileage
My problems started several months ago and was with the doors not opening until 3 or 4 try and dash saying key not detected or remote battery low. All these were so spread apart and not very often that I just thought they were flukes, not real issues. Then on March 17th 2012 I was visiting a friend and when I went to leave the car would not start. It had ... Read More
I have a 2011 JC Hemi Limited....what a piece of junk that transmission is. I currently have 64k on my jeep and I am on my second transmission. Like a lot of what I read, my second trans is doing what the first on did. Low RPM it rides like a tractor. Shutters, vibration at time it seems like it does not know what gear to go in, sometimes it shifts ... Read More
Sounds like Jeep or the NHSTA needs to do a recall of Jeep transmissions. We only have 50,000 miles on our 2007 JGC, and we are being asked to pay almost $3,000 for various repairs, including a new transmission. We'll just park it before we pay that much!
My Overland is AWD. The new Goodyear's are terrific, this is clearly what Jeep should have started with, instead of making me cough up the $1k.
Do you have 4 X 4 or AWD? I have Forteras (17s) on my '11 JGC. It says 4 X 4 on the back but is essentially AWD. I'm in Texas and we don't get too much of the nasty stuff. Didn't have any snow or ice last winter but the one before that we got socked in for a solid week. I had an 07 4Runner RWD with new Michelins ... Read More
Wanted to share my thoughts on the Fortera as well, for the benefit of anyone considering a Jeep GC in the future (or, hopefully, for the benefit of Jeep/Chrysler corporate!). I now have 32k miles on my JGC Overland with 20" Forteras. I am just starting my second winter with the JGC. The Forteras have been absolutely HORRIBLE in snow and rain. And I mean downright scary, dangerous horrible. First time ... Read More
I have owned my Jeep since Oct 2010. I have dealt with mechanical and electrical issues since March 2011. I have not had any mechanical or electrical issue since July 2011. The Jeep had less than 25K miles. Now fast forward to November 2012 Jeep has 28K miles electrical problems have re surfaced, the dashboard gets hot to touch whether the radio or heating unit is on or off. Left rear ... Read More
The lemon laws were not an option for us down here because we waited too long. We kept hoping things would get better for our Jeep as well because we loved the car when it was running. Unfortunately the JGC's either seem to be really good or really bad. Hate to see anyone else go through the he** we did with Chrysler. The company refuses to take responsibility for defective vehicles, ... Read More
I'm in Ontario and we don't have lemon laws here in Canada. I'm searching for an equivalent. That said, I just want my car to run the way it was advertised and not have to take legal action against an Automotive giant.. I hope that patch that's due to come out in February works but doubt it very much.
On my last visit to the dealer which was Chrysler's last attempt to fix it, I had the Service Manager at my dealer drive it. He, of course, would not come out and admit there was a problem but told me that they have done all available TSB's and that I could drive it in 6th or "tow-haul" (now why would he tell me that if there was no problem?) I ... Read More
I'm having the exact same issue and I'm just about at my wits end. Dealer is saying the same thing that it's the torque converter and that there is no fix for it yet. They also gave me the BS line of driving another one of the lot and seeing that it does the same thing. Well I drove the owner of the dealerships GC and if mine drove like his ... Read More
I have a 2011 with the same configuration and mine does that 10x. It started with a shudder during acceleration but has since moved on to a shudder when just driving at a constant speed over 80kmh (50mph). The dealer HAS admitted the problem but indicated there is nothing they can do yet as Chrysler has yet to release a fix. They mentioned to me it was the torque converter. Said ... Read More
Im in the market to purchase a 2011 or 2012 Pre-owned JGC for my wife. I'm located in Dallas, TX and curious to get some recent data points or buying experiences on how far dealerships come off their stated retail price. we are open to looking at cars within 250 miles of Dallas so also trying to get a feel of how much "room" is padded into the deletes Pre-owned stated ... My 2012 hemi GC overland is doing the shudder thing when trying to accelerate also. This motor should easily pull up a hill in 6th or 5th but when I give it a little gas it feels like it shudders and won't accelerate unless I really give it gas. At highway speeds when I try to over-take another vehicle, very little gas should be necessary but I have to move the ... Read More
I have the same problem. It is a shudder coming from the tranny and/or the torque converter. It gets worse every month. This would have been the best 4x4 on the market if they would have fixed it. They can't fix this with out redesigning the tranny and tourque converter. The only answer is to trade it and never buy any Chrysler product again. It's time to close the doors on ... Read More
Hi Rojosneakers, did you get the issue fixed or any progress? I got a very terrible issue with the 2012 JGC Laredo that I just leased about a week ago. Every time I drive it for more than 30 minutes and then switch to the local road and then get back to the highway, the RPM will go up to 4000+, and the Jeep is not gaining any speed. I could ... Sounds like Jeep has a major transmission problem and they are not admitting their problems. My dealer does the same thing! It doesn't show up on the computer so it must not be them. Sounds like a RECALL huh Jeep. Get real take care of your customers!
Last summer I bought a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee which is the biggest mistake of my like. It is the biggest piece of over priced crap on the planet. The Lithia dealership in Santa Fe sucks the big one!!! At 4000 miles the transmission had to be replaced due to the robot at the factory not positioning the transmission fluid filter correctly so it ate up the gears and had metal ... Read More
I have the same exact case like you, especially when going uphill. 2 flash updates but did not fixed it.
Thanks for the info. I've just emailed Lou Ann, will call afterwards. I have the 2011 JGC and only17000 miles on it. I have the same concern, slow to start and does not change gears or speed up going uphill. Took it to 2 dealers and all they did was to flash CPU firmware. Told them to check or change drive shaft, like was mentioned her, but they did not. maybe ... Read More
Did you ever get your Jeep fixed....I also own a 2011 Limited with a Hemi and have taken it to the dealer with the problem you described only to be told that the engine was built that way...hmmmm! I have also had problems with the cruise control engaging intermittently beginning about a month after I purchased my JGC as well as key issues. This past Monday I took my jeep in ... Read More
Hello xc90508, Sorry to hear you are having a concern with a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I checked for Technical Service Bulletins but could not find anything related to the faint squeaking you described above. You may want to consider having the vehicle diagnosed by your local authorized Dodge Service Department or a trusted mechanic if you have not already done so. Lisa Customer Care Chrysler Group LLC
Unfortunately there is nothing to fix. Jeep has set up the shift pattern on the JGC to up-shift as fast as possible to try and get a reasonable mileage rating. When you are driving around town, it will shift from 1st to 3rd before you get through the intersection unless you floor it. Because the engine gets most of its torque at high rpms the engine cannot handle the low speed ... Read More
I have a 2011 JGC, I've had it in three times and Jeep has done several flash updates, but acceleration is very poor. Between 20 mph - 40 mph, its very sluggish unless you press the acceleration hard. Risky in rush hour traffic. Has anyone had any results with Jeep on a fix? They don't seem to care about the quality.
I know your post is from back in 2011 but I'm having a huge issue with my jeep and it sounds just like yours as well as the 4wd light coming on. I have a 2006 Grand Cherokee Limited that I got back in 2009. When i first got it the 4wd light kept coming on and they said it was the sensor and changed it and it seemed to fix ... Read More
I bought a fully-loaded Grand Cherokee Overland Summit in February, 2011. Thought I might share my impressions after driving it for 24,000 miles. If you have specific questions, post them and I will be happy to answer. About me, this is the first American made vehicle I have ever owned. I'm 53 years old. My wife and I usually drive Infiniti's, Hondas or Nissans. I was extremely apprehensive about buying American ... Read More
Two issues/questions on my 2011 JGC: 1) Does anyone else have a "squeaking" driver's seat? My JGC has 20,000 (easy) miles on it, and it makes little, but noticeable, squeaks or creaking noises whenever I take a corner or adjust in the seat. Frankly it sounds like poor workmanship, but I don't really see a "bolt" or anything to easily tighten that would solve the problem. We have a 2008 Honda ... Read More
Hi every body, If anyone has JGC 2012, Is there any of the problems that many of the 2011 owners talking about?
We purchased our 2007 JCG Overland new and when the computer problems (among other things) started at 12k, we should have tried to have it returned under our state's lemon law. I suggest you do the same. 4.5 years later, our Jeep has been in the shop on average once every six months. I wish we had not been complacent because we had an extended warrenty to 100k because now, our ... Read More
If you do start a petition, don't limit it to the 2011 and let me know. We have the 2007 JGC Overland Diesel and it has had problems since it was at 12k. Hi, I hope you overcome that. Did you mean by ECM: the ECU (main computer) or the Gear Box computer. Is there any problems with the gear box like shuddering?, and is your car manufactured in the 2010?, and does the brake problem solved?. Thank you for your advice: "Never buy the first year of a new product".
Hi, I'm sure the 2012 models have a lot of problems worked out. I think mine was one of the first hundred out the factory door. I had the Jeep 3 days and I went to open the rear lift gate with the key fob and it started going up, but the spoiler got hooked on the roof and crushed the roof in and $5,000 later and a new roof skin ... Hi Optimas, I was thinking about purchasing 2011 JGC, but after your message I am confused. So can you tell me about the long list of the JGC 2011 problems. and have they told you that they solved them in the 2012 version. Thank you.
Hi gbeesjeep, I also have 2011 JGC Overlander and have had nothing but problems the list is longer than my arm, so was wondering if you would be so kind as to help me with contacting the CEO of Chrysler, because I would like to send them a email so I can also express my disappointment with this product. Its pretty sad that a person spends $50k on a SUV and ... Read More
I have had similar issues with my JGC 2000, and my 2006 JGC. My regular mechanic who is superior to any Jeep mechanics said the shudder is coming from a defective torque converter. Since it is out of warranty, he said to treat it gently, change the tranny fluid every 20K miles, and live with it. I also did the s/w chip upgrade on the TSB Jeeps recommends. Jeep had fixed ... I finally got my 2011 JGC Limited with Hemi into the dealer for the shuddering transmission problem. They drove it for about 3 minutes and determined that they needed to update some software. The made the update, and I left thinking that maybe something changed, ... Read More
My 2011 JGC Overland (V6) has the same problem. When you are slowly accelerating from a stop it shudders as it shifts from 1-2 (watch as you get to 2000rpm) The dealer has done some initial work with no solution and now think it is a drive shaft or other drive train problem other than the tranny. I also have a humming sound at highway speeds from the drive train (not ... Read More
I have about 9,000 miles on mine now, and it seems less noticeable in the past few days, but I felt it again today. Have you had yours looked at yet? I have an appointment with the transmission guy on Thursday morning....I'd not holding my breath that (1) they will be able to feel the same thing I feel, and (2) have a solution.
I'm having the same problem but mine is the V6.
Yes, sorry, it is the Hemi V8 engine.
Is this 2011 GC a v8 Hemi with the shudder?
I recently purchased a 2011 JGC Limited, in 2 months have put about 7K miles on it. I have been noticing what feels like a studder or shudder when slowly accellerating - like the transmission is slipping or something. I've cancelled a couple of appointments with the dealer - I'm sure these folks won't be able to "notice" it or feel it like I do. It seems to happen when the ... Read More

Hi, Thanks for all the replies. Yes, we stopped yesterday at Kost Tires to get a price on better tires. It's a shame though that you spend so much money for a suv and then have to dish out another 800 bucks on tires.
