The Dream SUV that turned into a nightmare
We bought the car new in 2016 with our local volvo dealer in pittsburgh. it wasnt greensburgh. We loved the car for basically the first ride home , and i would say for about the first week, the car drove perfectly. Until we took the car on our first little road trip, less than 150 miles in total, it was to go see a place with the family, and at the begining of our drive back, the cars info tament screen blacked out. ac turned off, the engine still ran. it stayed like this for 15 minutes. this happened several times in the first year. as well as many other problems with the system. it was slowly resolved as it got more software updates, but we forgave the car, even though the system is slow to boot up to this day. The car ran fine for the first 15k miles. until we noticed the car wasnt driving just as smooth as before. we thought it was just us and didnt think anything of it. also not to mention we replaced a set of tires on this car every 10k miles that costs $1,000, anyways. The car began to burn oil fast at 30 k miles. every 50 miles we poured a quart of oil in the car. so we brought the car to the dealer. and on the way there, the car had actually ran dry of oil( which we later found out was because of a seal blowing somewhere on the engine) and the car had and engine with a cracked block, and 2 bent cylynders. it was an engine replacement at 32k miles. The dealer refused to fix it at first ( the car is under warranty , it is 2018 at the time , a month before the warranty ended) , the dealer had insisted that we had done this to the car, and that we where liable for the damage. it took some stern talking, but they replaced the enging under warranty. We where told the car was going to be in the shop for a week. it was there for an entire month on the dot. We had thought our issues where done there, but no. throught the next two years after that 2018-2020. the car had door lock issues that had to get fixed/ replaced, the headlight washer cover popped off twice, the car had multiple unessecory emergency braking moments, coming back from a two week vacation the car battery died and it took two days to be able to charge the battery enough to jump the car The car then at the end of 2019 had issues where the cars air condition would not work at all, or blow cold air when put on hot,and hot air when put on cold, or bairly blow the right temperature or speed, the dealer said there was nothing wrong with it until the second visit. and the miles got up to 59k at the begining of 2020. the car has gone through 5 sets of tires. This leads up to 2020-2021( 60k miles to 70K). the car in the begining of 2020 had ignition issues, the car did not start twice, the turn signals had multiple faliures. the car then also we had the car battery needing replaced. so we brought to the dealer, and they repalced with battery for 554$. right after that, there where messages saying there where parking brake faliures and we had noticed the car would sudenly slow down or try to stop. low and behold there are two car batterys in the car. 1 for the drive system and one for the computer. and the battery for the drive system deosnt tell you when its dead, so, because the battery was basiclly flat, the parking brake would never fully engage or disengage , and wore out the rear brake pads completly. the car also had a check engine light when we brought it into the dealer , this is early 2021. january. the car service was done. new battery, they reset the codes, and didnt actually fix the check engine ligth issue, which i expected, and they expected was the o2 sensor. and they replaced rear brake pads. the total was 1,393$. a week passes buy, and the check engine light returns. fast forward two months later and present day. my mom was driving the car and she had complained about vibrations in the motor and a ruff auto start stop. it seemed odd to me as well when i drove it. becuase it had put the car in neutral and reved the engine up slowly to 4k rpms and there was a vibration from 2k to 2.5k rpms. first thing i think of is the engine mounts. i open the hood and the first thing is see is the tourqe rod ( what attaches the engine to the car and the motor mounts) is not just cracked , but complety broken off, engine is not even currently held back by anything , becuase the engine is not attached to the car , to expalain better, look up images xc90 tourqe rod, and the middle peice that holds the motor to it is complelty cracked or broken off. we will see how much this costs. but this is rediculous, the car has 70k miles at this point on its 7th set of tires. it is garage kept, and never even driven hard. the worst the car gets is the snow , and horrible PA roads. do not by an xc90, maybe they fixed alot of this stuff in the new ones. but i will never go back to volvo. after all, there made in china now. it is not the same volvo we all knew and loved. also, the car drove like a deisel and was really loud for most of its life for no reason

A lot of car
For as big as this car is, it handles surprisingly well. That said, I had planned on getting something smaller, but the ride comfort and technology (especially the great center display and fewer buttons) won me over. It is bigger than the Highlander it replaced, so my wife and I are still parking in the back corner of the mall parking lot - afraid to get too close to anything that might scratch our new car. It is great onthe open road, but a bit too much around town, My wife and I are still learning the new technology, which is a bit intimidating to a non-technophile. My wife couldn't figure out how to turn off the radio the other day, and needed to recruit a youngster to help (you just turn the volume down until you see the "x") - oh well. Controls are a bit quirky. I recently went to a car wash and when I got in the vehicle, both mirrors were folded in. I had to call support from the car. Needed to simultaneously push both mirror buttons and they returned to normal - just something to learn. After owning the car about 2 years, I noticed it was running a bit rough and my highway mileage had declined. After reading the manual and related articles, I started using top tier gasoline instead of the bargain stuff. Apparently upper head injection can get fouled. Once I changed, the engine smoothed out and my mileage got better. On my last long trip, I get nearly 30 miles per gallon.

30,000 mile review
Just completed 30,000 miles. Despite a couple of electronic glitches, coupled with 2 recall notices, all of which were resolved during the normal 10,000 mile service intervals, I have to say that I am highly impressed with this vehicle . Bought from new and added every available option aside from the air-assist suspension and to be honest, the ride is fine. Quality of interior materials is top-notch. Not the most technically savvy individual though still managed to work out the majority of the screen based functionality within a couple of hours. Bottom line is that this is well built, stylish SUV that provides an amazing level of comfort combined with a strong sense of safety due to the numerous features that you would expect from a Volvo. In addition, with the rear seats down there is a serious amount of storage capacity, though should you be looking for a seven seater, the XC90 can accommodate without individuals having dislocate limbs to fit in the back seats.

Worst car of my life
This has been the most unreliable vehicle of my life. I have had to rebuild/ replace the following: Supercharger($2500 rebuild) engine (replace gaskets) for using oil @70,000 miles(5k covered), turbo charge went requiring exhaust system and turbocharger repair (5k repair), batteriesX1, brakes west fast as they are undersized. This vehicle is a lemon. My used Dodge K car in college was much more reliable. Beautiful car when it works and not bankrupting me.

Expensive car for poor taste
I went into this experience with an open mind. Never owned a foreign car, people I know raved about the xc90 inscription. I sent out and looked at a couple and ended up purchasing one. Within a week I regretted my decision, the ride isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, the seats aren’t too comfy, the “dynamic” option for drive mode is barely an improvement. Could have bought a brand new suv with no miles for the same price and got the same/ possibly better quality
