Used 2022 Volkswagen Taos Consumer Reviews
Dangerous vehicle, do not purchase or lease!
The Volkswagen Taos should not be on the market...it is unsafe and will fail quickly. Something is deeply wrong with the manufacturing of this model, because I had a serious incident occur just a few days. I acquired a 2022 VW Taos SE on August 24, 2022. At just over 5,000 miles, I was driving on a 45 mph road at the speed limit, and the vehicle dropped to 20 mph in an instant and began rattling like I was driving over pebbles. I almost thought the transmission had fallen out...it was super scary! After the initial speed drop, the steering was locked and I could barely turn onto a less busy road with a 30 mph speed limit. Once on that road, I carefully navigated the practically non-responsive vehicle to by house at no more than 20 mph. All these engine lights appeared when it happened initially and I was really freaked. My only thought was I need to get this vehicle home so my husband can help me with the situation...so I did make it home. Once it was inside the garage and powered down, my husband tried to start it and everything was just dead. We had to call a tow truck and they rolled it out of our driveway to get it loaded. Once at the dealership, the service rep said that my timing was good because they will also address a recall while looking at the other issues (very odd that this was the first time I had heard about that recall). The service rep called me two days later and left a long voicemail essentially telling me that fuel injector and a couple cylinders failed, and that there was fuel leaking from the exhaust pipe and in other places it shouldn't be. The rep said that the new fuel injector was not in stock and would take 3-5 business days to arrive; however, even after replacing the fuel injector, there may still be problems that they have to further diagnose. So, ultimately, there is no guarantee that the vehicle can even be repaired. Upon learning all of this, I requested an alternative mode of transportation (i.e. loaner, rental, new vehicle to lease)...the service rep said sales would take care of that and he would have someone call me. No one called over the next day and a half, so I called their sales team and spoke to Bill, explained my situation, and he said to visit the dealership the next day and he would make things right. Things were not made right...I am without a loaner or rental (never offered one), and now I have to wait until Monday for the sales manager to speak with VW rep (since VW support is only available Mon-Fri, 8-5)...of course, this was very frustrating! When the sales manager initially came out to meet us, we thought Bill had updated him on the situation...he had not. We had to explain to the manager what happened once again and the whole thing was handled very poorly. Still waiting for a resolution, but I will not pay a penny more to VW or the dealership. The VW Taos is a lemon through and through and should be off the market, no questions asked. In fact, I feel incredibly lucky that I was not on the highway going 65 mph when this occurred, because I would have caused an accident. Additionally, the fact that fuel was leaking from the exhaust pipe meant that the vehicle could have caught on fire or even exploded at any moment following the speed drop. All this to say, avoid the Taos at all costs.

Decent value and performance in my SE FWD
My little Taos gives me what I wanted, a "cheaper" runaround SUV. The 8spd trans on the FWD seems much less clunky than the versions with the 7spd trans I test drove. Unfortunately, that improvement is somewhat mitigated when you turn the AC on. But I suppose that's understandable. Decent stopping distances. Overall, a nice little SUV with enough storage.

Great little car
A lot more pick-up than the Jeep Compass I drove while renting from National. Lots of room and great leg space in the backseat. Best of all it gets great gas mileage.
