Great car but higher sticker price. The gas mileage consumption is higher specially on city use. UPDATE: have more problems now the epc light keeps coming on and off the mechanic could not even figure out what it the problem please check if there is manufacturer error.

This car could be okay if they offered an AWD option. Sure you could get a "R" but that's over 40K and I just couldn't bring myself to spend 40K on a golf. As it is the GTI is a very frustrating car to drive. The lack of traction ruins the car. I hate owning this car and would not recommend it at all.

I sold my beloved 2017 GTI to my stepson as his first real car "he" would actually buy. That wasn't his first car, a light blue 2008 Ford Focus. So a silver 2017 6 speed GITI was a nice personal step. What to replace it with he asked. Easy, the same car. My wife liked the GTI so much she bought a 2017 GOLF, not the GTI as it, "had fewer bumps". OK, I can relate to that so I optioned to the Autobahn that has the adjustable suspension, and it works it's magic such that it can be "her" car when she's with me and "my" car when she's not. So the Metallic Silver white 6 speed GTI makes more people happy. The car does well on mileage if you respect the turbo! I get 39-40 MPG with the on screen telemetrics as the reference on the highway. I don't notice the 8 extra HP over the 2017 so marketing did better than I did there. But, I'd rather have the mileage than more go fast, it is plenty fast already. The 6 speed is PERFECT, and any roughness is YOU, and the precision makes you know it the action is so good. I bought the 2020 MK7.5 verses the 2021 MK8 as I'm just not a fan of the iPAD like dash and the exterior styling is not the best compared to the 2020. A MK7 -7.5 Golf has one of the best car dashes out there for visual and user input precision. The MK8 is also a BIGGER car and that's the wrong direction, too, for me. Yes, the 2021 MK8 is a better car technicaly but not at the speeds I drive and...I look at the car every day and drive at 9/10 just so few times the perfomance isn't the deciding factor. This is such a rare type of car where everything is so equally weighted. By that I mean it isn't a "dog" anywhere! All aspects of what make a car nice, is 8-10 out of 10 across the board. This makes the user experience really consistent. For a sport type car, the handling and ride are eary good. How can a car be both sporting and comfortable at the same time? This is a really mature car, so much so I bought another at 62 years of age and don't feel a but the fool. My 2017 MK7 GTI has 32,000 perfect miles under it's hood. The 2020 MK7.5 will do just the same and with many more miles for both car's. The real problem with this car is that it is so good, keeping it up seems impossible. I hope the bigger MK8 doesn't push the car into a "bigger" size and weight class comparison. Why do cars need to spread out as the mature? We all want to be physically teenagers when we grow up, car's can do what we can't! VW should let the GTI remain a fine hatch, the finest there is.

I have recently bought myself a 17 golf gti. I have had several cars in my past 68 Olds 442, 66 Chevy Impala, and a 77 Chevette to name my first 3 cars I owned (starting with the latter and going backwards) anywho I liked the chevette for its 4 speed (but very slow without it) the Impala was nice to look at plus convertible (forgot to mention) then the oldsmobile which was the power house. Combine all 3 of these vehicles and you have a nice sporty car with great gas mileage. When I first got it I was getting nearly 42mpg(with old tires) bought a new set of Michelin pilot sport AS plus which is much louder ride now and mileage dropped from 42 to 32mpg with premium fuel. Saving 60 plus cents on the gallon buying regular gasoline I was getting 34-35 mpg. At the car performs really well, handles corners like it's on a rail. I have been into it occasionally (seeing what she will do) and has been great. I don't know how the previous owner used it but I am using it as my everyday driven ride. I have the oil changed every 3000 miles, tented the windows for the ac doesn't cool down the interior very well on 90 plus days(now it does and kids even ask me to turn off the ac a time or two when I had it only on 2 notches and their vents closed off). Pros: performance and handling is great. Decent gas mileage if you keep the foot out of the gas. Cons: ac not able to keep the interior cool on really hot days. (Must tent windows if in a hot climate area). Update: I've had the car now 4 years (bought May 2020) only thing I have done to the car mechanically was upgraded the clutch and brakes, besides that it has now over 100k miles on the odometer. I see a lot of people talking about how the car is junk, after putting $3k-$4k and drive it like a race car and expect everything to never break. I've had the car twice around 3500-4000rpms. Most people say they have redlined their cars as if it's meant to do more often then not. I wouldn't never buy a used gti or r Volkswagen because of people's treatment towards these cars, unless you knew the owner very well. They are great cars or mine has been the 4 years since I owned it, it has been hit 3 different times (while parked, hit and runs) with very minimal damage.
